BAD EXPERIENCE FROM AESTA MAKEUP BY ESTA HSU

Hi everyone,

I have engaged Esta Hsu, the Principal Artist from Aesta Makeup to be my bridal MUA earlier May this year. I only did my trial makeup in Oct this year which is almost 5 months later.
I had a very unpleasant experience with Esta when i went for my trial makeup in Oct. She does not open up to what brides preference like. There is no 2 way communication. She only wants to do the makeup by her own style. When i told her i prefer Pink shades tone, she rejected me and said " Pink is childish, not my style"

That's ok so i listened to her advice to do a more bronze base eye colour. However, i realised my foundation was darker than my original skin colour. It made me look more tan. So i merely requested her politely if she can use a lighter shade foundation on my face as very obviously my neck colour was fairer than my face colour during the trial session. She got sarcastic and asked if i have any MUA that i trusted. Not only that, she even sent me a chunk of messages saying that i did not follow her guidelines ( the Dos & Dont which Aesta Makeup emailed me a link when i engaged her service in May. No reminder was sent to me in Oct before i went for the trial session. They expect all clients to be so free to remember & memorise the email which they have sent out 5 months ago). She even blamed me for sleeping late at night, not doing my homework as i did not go for any facial and having dark eye circle and dry skin. I have paid SGD $2400 to engage her Makeup Service & i cant even voice out my preference. Yes i understand she might think that she is a very professional MUA but we do pay for the service. Mutual respect and communication is very important too. What really shocked me is after she has sent me a chunk of messages to criticise about my skin condition, she went ahead to refund my money ( less off $400 for the trial session) and cancelled on me less than a month before my Actual day Wedding. To be honest, if my skin condition is that flawless, i could have done my own makeup. I do not have to spend $2400 to engage a MUA.

My whole conversation with her was not even rude to begin with. I just find that this is very unprofessional for her to cancel on people especially she knew my big day is just less than a month away.

I urged all Brides-to-be to choose your MUA carefully. A two way communication and a humble MUA is very important. A good makeup artist should be one who can cater to your style & advice you accordingly. Not just one who apply the same makeup style based on her own preference or convenience & definitely a NO NO to arrogant MUA cos u will not want to see your MUA giving you attitude on your big day.

Hi @happygal23, so sorry to hear about your awful experience with Esta Hsu whose attitude and communication skills left much to be desired. :(As the bride, you should feel comfortable providing input and having a say in how you want your makeup to look on your big day!

It was completely unprofessional and unacceptable for her to shut down your preferences like that. And canceling so close to the wedding date is a total nightmare.

Thanks for sharing your story - it's really helpful for other brides-to-be. I hope you're able to find an artist that you feel comfortable with and who will listen to what you want. Wish you all the best :)

If I'm not mistaken, are you the one who is:
- 41 years old and has never taken care of their skin.
- Stays up every night until 2 AM.
- The bride who spent over 2 hours just for choosing accessories during a trial session that was scheduled for 3.5 hours, going over the allotted time by an hour or more.
- Continued choosing accessories until the next client arrived, causing the makeup artist to juggle both clients simultaneously.
- During that additional hour before the next client, you took the makeup artist's lunch break. You took your time wearing EVERY earring one by one, even though the makeup artist didn't charge extra for that, she just charged 3.5 hour trial fees.

Why don't you mention all of this here?

For a 41-year-old lady who hasn't taken care of her skin, the makeup artist incorporated a lot of skincare during the trial to prevent a cakey look. There was a need to cover dark eye circles caused by consistently sleeping at 2 am. However, it's essential to note that excessive skincare can lead to faster foundation oxidation, even if the makeup artist applied a tone lighter than your skin.

It's worth mentioning that all brides typically read the guidelines before their trial, understanding the importance of skincare for optimal results. Brides acknowledge that achieving good results requires good skin care, and they don't blame the makeup artist for their skin condition.

In cases where guidelines aren't followed, such as a 41-year-old with wrinkles, dehydrated skin, and severe dark circles, expecting magical results within 2 hours, it's essential to consider personal responsibility. Realizing that skincare is crucial, especially before a wedding, is a shared understanding among brides.
No one should blame the makeup artist for their skin condition if they haven't followed guidelines or taken care of their skin. Real skin has texture, and it's important to avoid expecting the impossible by showing photos that have been heavily filtered and edited.

Since you don't trust your current makeup artist, it might be best to proceed with the one you believe you can trust. In this case, a suitable solution would be to refund your entire payment, without deducting any deposit for your actual day.

Just an advice for you, not to rely too much on filtered photos and videos, as they don't represent reality.

@Gracewithlove28

@Gracewithlove28 By any chance are you the unprofessional MUA trying to defend yourself here..

Firstly to clarify, im not 41 years old in case your memory failed u. Yes i do have bad dark circle but my skin condition should be considered average to many or at least better than yours. Its unfair to just conclude people not taking care of their own complexion when u dont even know what's people lifestyle are like or what skin regime people do. FYI by sleeping at 2am doesnt mean that i dun take care of my skin. I only mentioned that i dun go facial cos i have very sensitive skin. If not going facial = to not taking care of skin by your definition then i have learnt something new from you.

Also, i wondered if the English language we studied was the same or was it just your English understanding capability too high a level for me to comprehend. Which part of my sentence did i ever mentioned or have blamed the MUA for my skin condition??? Is the attitude of the MUA that matters! I was merely sharing my personal preference politely to a MUA. All i asked for was a fairer shade of tone but what i received was a spam of messages saying how bad my skin was and got questioned for not trusting my MUA. How do u even define TRUST in this context when there wasnt even any basic mutual understanding and communication to find out about your brides preferences to begin with. If Trust is just about keeping quiet and listened to watever the MUA wants to do then u have got the definition of TRUST very wrong. I paid for the service and i cant even voice out my preference on my big day. WHAT A JOKE! I am not even requesting for anything too much. All i did was to ask politely but was slapped back saying how bad my skin was and got cancelled just 3 weeks before my actual day wedding. This just reflects how prideful the MUA is who insisted things her own way without mutual communication.

And to correct on this statement: The bride who spent over 2 hours just for choosing accessories during a trial session that was scheduled for 3.5 hours, going over the allotted time by an hour or more.
Pls get your facts all correct before u made this statement. My trial makeup slot with u was 1pm to 430pm. Yes i was late for about 25 to 30min. But i did apologised and message u beforehand saying that i was held up by work and will be late. U replied me: No worries dear please take your time. Makeup trial was done around 440pm and i started choosing the accessories. Yes i do admit that i may have taken longer time than normal brides but i clearly remembered that i left your studio before 515pm. When your another client came, i even apologised for taking this long to choose but u said: " its ok no worries. Take my time i can try on the earrings if i wanted." Thats how i ended up trying on the accessories but i definitely took less than 30min. 2hrs is way too far an exaggeration!

Anyway, thank you for cancelling on me cos it turned out to be a blessing in disguise and i managed to find a much better MUA who respects bride preference and understands the importance of mutual communication so i can be a happy bride on my big day.

Just a piece of advice for u too. Reality check is important. Pls do a self reflection from time to time. No matter how skillfully u can be with your makeup skill, being arrogant and ego doesnt bring u far in life especially u are in service line afterall. Finally, i do hope u follow what u preached, dun use too much filtered photos or videos as what u mentioned since they dun represent reality. Unless u want to protray an unrealistic side of your work to your clients, dun filtered all your works before u post them on social media.

@SGblushingbride Thanks for your well wishes! Yes i manged to find a good MUA in the end. U are very right, it is totally unacceptable and nightmare to have met such MUA. I just wanted to share my bad experience to all brides to be cos preparing for big day is stressful enough. U wouldnt want any toxic people to create any further unnecessary stress. I have learnt my lesson here and thought it will be helpful to share my experience with all future brides to be. I wish u all the best for finding a good MUA on your big day too!
