A BRIDE’S ROADMAP TO SKIN REJUVENATION

Being a beautiful bride is every girl’s dream. It has been shown that a girl starts imagining her wedding day even from the early age of 7. She already has an idea of what her dress would look like, her kind of cake, etc. Once engaged, she starts considering a few aesthetic treatments such as body shaping, skin rejuvenation and skinboosters to help her look her best on her wedding day.

For the perfect wedding day body to make you the talk of the town for a long time, have your great-grandchild look at pictures from your wedding day and gasp “she looked so beautiful”, we have provided you a timeline chart to help you plan your aesthetic treatments.

12 Months before the Wedding

At first glance, 12 months sounds like a long time but it is the best time to address issues that are general to your skin and body. You should also have an idea of the timeline of all your wedding-related events such pre-wedding photo shoots, hen parties and actual day.

Skin:

There are different types of skin and this influences what kind of treatment your aesthetic doctor prescribes for each type.

Acne/Oily Skin – For this skin type, you may need laser skin rejuvenation and chemical peels. Both procedures help control oil production and stimulate healing/prevention of acne lesions. You may also need oral medication for severe cases to avoid further acne scarring which may cause you additional stress.

Dry Skin – For someone with dry skin, you might be worried about having a cracked skin with those itchy patches on your big day. Hydrating facials and skin booster treatments deliver deep hydration, firmness, and luminosity.

With excellent hydration, the skin looks plumper, brighter, and more youthful. Your make up stays perfect and you are able to achieve that dewy glow.

Pigmented Skin – Pigment lasers and whitening products are essential in helping to clear pigmented skin. The number of sessions you will need depends on the type and severity of pigmentation. Take note that monthly laser skin rejuvenation usually takes multiple sessions to gradually accumulate more effect.

Body:

Common body woes of brides-to-be include visible fat bulges under the chin, around the thighs, abdomen, back and arms. With fat freezing by Coolsculpting, it takes about 3 months to achieve a gradual reduction in fats. Thus, if a lot of fat needs to be reduced or your aim is to slim down before the pre-wedding shoot, you can start your first session at 12 months ahead. Subsequent sessions can be done at 2-3 months interval. Also, discuss weight management and nutrition counseling if needed. Avoid crash dieting but take everything in moderation! A good rule to follow is a low carbohydrate and low sugar diet.

6 Months before the Wedding

Now is the time to concentrate on issues that are specific to you, rather than generalized. Address issues such as;

Face

a) Facial contouring with botox jaw slimming and fillers (which last about 6 months).

b) Acne scarring (3-5 times) - Fractional laser, Rejuran, and other skin healing and skin rejuvenation treatments should be done monthly.

Body

As part of your body shaping treatment, add exercise. If you are not used to exercising, start trying different kinds of exercise like yoga, running, swimming to see which type you prefer. Don’t be a weekend warrior. It is much easier to keep to a regular regimen if you don’t find it a chore!

Hair

Want to have a long feminine hairdo for the wedding night? Start keeping your tresses long. No more impulsive drastic haircuts!

3 Months before Wedding

i) Body and skin – For optimal results, you should have had at least one session of Coolsculpting by now. Your skin rejuvenation plan should also run consistently.

ii) Others – 3 months away is a good time to start your hair and makeup trials to see which suit you best and if you’ll like to rock it on your big day.

Review of all treatments:

Do not try out any new aesthetic treatments, techniques or products just in case your skin reacts badly and you get breakouts. The time for trial has passed. Now all you need is to review everything you have done so far with your doctor. Some brides may need minor touch-up treatments of botox jaw slimming and fillers to maintain the effect for the actual day. All injectables should be done by now to allow your skin ample time to recover from downtime, e.g. bruising and/or swelling.

2 Weeks before the Wedding

Trim the ends of your hair, touch up the roots, set up your hairstyling trial appointment with your stylist. Include treatments of your hair and scalp to prepare it for all that wedding day styling.

1 Week before the Wedding

Exfoliating is very important for that glow you need to wear on your big day as it not only clears away the dead cells that cause dullness but also allows your beauty products to penetrate your skin more effectively, before feeding it with masks which are food for the skin.

Have a relaxing, skin rejuvenating, hydrating facial to keep you calm from any wedding stress!

A day before the Wedding

You have worked so hard for this day! Channel away all that nervous energy by calming yourself with some meditation and/or bubble bath.

Skin - Gently exfoliate and apply your usual hydrating/soothing mask. An overnight hydrating mask will help your skin be well plumped up for good makeup application the next day.

Hair - Shampoo and condition your hair the night before, not on the day itself. This is important as it helps your hair styling hold alot better. You'll be amazed at how great and better your hairstyling will hold up!

Body – avoid a high salt diet and drink enough water to prevent waking up with water retention the next day.

Sleep - It’s normal to have some pre-wedding jitters the night before preventing you from falling asleep fast, so try and go to bed earlier than usual. 7-8 hours of undisturbed sleep will help you look at your most rejuvenated and radiant.

Actual day

Do your usual skincare regime and sunblock/primer before your makeup artist arrives. Don’t fret over any skin imperfections you may see in the mirror and just enjoy your day. You have worked so hard for this.
