Anyone using organic plant-based products? Currently looking for plant-based facial products cos dun wanna use commericial pdts which has harsh chemicals in them and found this orgnanic product (natural-lis)on the internet.
Seems like its quite good for acne skin too .. have some blemishes left behind from an acne ourbreak last year... =( but its quite pricey so would like to hear some 1st-hand reviews abt it before i buy them.. Anyone care to share? =)

I have tried using organic plant-based products before and currently still using some of them with my current products. I noticed that if I have breakouts at the "that time" of the month, i put on more cream on the pimple. The next day, I realised they dried up and subside. Happy...

they also have an acne range, organic rosehip oil too.. all made from plants and fruits...so i guess it comes with a price ..=( But if it really helps, i wouldn't mind investing on it... unless there are better and cheaper ones..hee

I believe mine is much cheaper than the products you are refering. Cleanser...$38, toner is $38...scrub...$50... They are from Paris.

They are not found in retail shops. You will find your skin becoming more radiant after use. You will need to go down in person so that the consultant can recommend you the suitable product for your skin type.

What about The natural source? They have a range of Daintree and Tera Firma products which are also plant-based..think australian products are great..no more chemicals..hee...anyone tried them? care to share?

Usually we have to pay more for those products when they are sold in retail shop...partially for the shop rental, advertising and commission. As long as the product can show result and affordable, it does not matter whether it is popular or not.

Oh there's Aesop that jus came onto the market...i bot their Mandarin Facial cream...it's quite good....once u work the cream into your face...not greasy...and i love the mandarin and lemon rind scents that they put into it....i've tested their Rind Body Balm and Resurrecting Hand lotion...not too bad...the hand lotion has got healing properties for eczema condition

Hi all,

I'm now switching from SK-II to organic skincare after reading some articles on "How to recognize and avoid toxic ingredients in regular cosmetics and body/ skin care products". Make-up and body care products have been linked to allergic reactions, birth defects and even cancer.

I have bought the organic facial cleansing gel, toner, night cream and hand lotion from Avalon organics. All of them are paraben-free formulations. I don't like the facial cleansing gel cos it causes some breakouts. But then the toner and night cream it's really ok, especially the night cream. It's not greasy and what you need to do is just apply it during night time and the next morning, you'll feel your skin is soft and fair.

I also trying another chemical-free skincare called "Resurge". You can get it from most of the major pharmacies and the price is also reasonable. I bought the facial cleanser, toning gel, day cream, shampoo and conditioner. The products are pretty good. You may log on to www.i-green.com.my for more info. The products suit those who are looking for chemical-free skincare.

I'm also using the clay mask from Terra Firma, TNS. I like it too. But then it's not totally organic, you still can find there's parabens (perservative) in the products.

Hi Elizabeth,

Which brand is your friend selling? Resurge or Avalon?

I want to revive this thread coz I've noticed that there are so many "natural" brands out there, dunno which one I should use. i've been told I have dehydrated oily skin, quite sensitive. Biggest headache are the zits that pop out often.

High-end, there's Aesop, Sisley, Dermalogica

then that's the mid range ones like Lavera, to lower ones like TNS, The Face Shop (fr Korea), Harnn & Thann.

Any comments on the above?

Hi female

Go for Aesop. If anyone goign to AUS, beg or plead with them to help u buy...it's alot cheaper.....

I like TNS personally, esp the Hair Mask and Sugar Whip....

Please forget about Lavera, honestly crappy stuff....

hi sowie,

i meant to ask you why you didnt like Lavera's product. what happened? I just went there last night and onto their website - like quite convincing leh.

my goodness, i use exactly the same products you use fr TNS.

I have gone to Aseop...i must say, their smells are HEAVENLY. Tried the balancing C gel fr sample but it doesnt seem to blend very well. Same goes for their blemish cream. But I find their range for acne quite weak.

Hi Female

I was also convinced by Lavera's marketing stuff and hence i tried......i used their shampoo for oily scalp and conditioner....it made my hair so wiry and the shampoo honestly din work.....also my gf used their hair mask....it made her hair stick out and became quite dry......ok, i din try their skincare range, tho i had smelt it....and it's gross to me la.......

For TNS, i used their eye serum, facial cleanser and scrub, shampoo and conditioner....these are pretty ok la, tho i wont' say fantastic....the facial cleanser and scrub's scent is too strong for my liking and i dun really fancy the cleanser's feel after washing.....

i know wat u mean by the Aesop C gel....it's like honey texture right....the lady did a full works of all the facial pdts on my hand.....and for the C gel, u really must be patient and massage it into your skin and wait a while for it to be absorbed...after that really no stickiness......i am using their Mandarin cream and it's the same, dun need alot and jus keep massaging into your face....

I just got my colleague to buy their Jet Set traveller's pack for me from Aus (Spore has but cost ard $55)...it has the gentle scalp shampoo, conditioner, geranium body cleanser and Rind Body balm......i used all that last nite and i'm pretty happy with the effect.....

i tried their Primrose Facial Masque.....not too bad, but i still prefer Nuskin's Marine Mud Mask for more deep cleansing properties....the Primrose one has aromatherapy effect and the scent kind of relaxes me last nite.....

i also tried their Parsley Seed eye serum...my colleague told me it kind of reduces dark circles and i was quite sceptical of it initially cos i honestly haven't heard/used any eye pdts that can reduce dark circles (always thot sleep will do the trick or blame it on yr bad genes).....it's not too bad and my dark circles did lighten abit this morning, hope it's not my mind acting up.....a little bit goes a long way...i poured out too much from the sachet and i used the balance on my hands.....totally 100% absorbed....no stickiness or oiliness....imagine the skin ard our eyes absorbing all the good stuff....

Personally, I've tried both Lavera and now Aesop. I'm a junkie when it comes to reading ingredient lists. Both the brands are highly botanical. With LAvera claiming to use only organic plant extracts. But it uses alcohol as the preservative. For Aesop, it uses preservatives to a bare minimum. The test though is how each individual's skin reacts to either. So what may work well for someone, may not for another. I was using Lavera's hair care for some time. And some of the skincare. Don't care much for it's toners cos they all have alcohol, but the moisturiser for combi skin is alright. The cleansers aren't too good. The haircare was just ok but rebought a few times cos like the idea of using organic products that have no chemicals. Am now trying out Aesop's skincare. The Fabulous Face Cleanser is truly fabulous. Altho it doesn't foam much, it removes makeup and grime thoroughly. Am hoping the moisturisers work better or as well as the one I've been using from Academie.
Hope that helps : )

Hi Fur

U mean u actually found lavera's haircare ok? Hmm...maybe my gf and i jus have poorer hair quality...we found it quite drying on the ends......even after conditioner and hairmask....

I jus bot Aesop's handcream yesterday...and its' quite fabulous.....i prefer it to Jurlique's rose cream cos that one gave me headache at times.....and i had to give it away,......

Aesop's skin and body stuff i find ok....but thier hairstuff, i am still trying....so far not too happy......maybe it's me cos my gfs tried their hairmask and all quite happy...i'm the one still complaining......and i definitely prefer TNS's one......the Aesop lady told me perhaps i din use enuf......

Hi Hazy

Aseop is at Millenia Walk........depending on the pdts u're looking at, can't really advise the price range...definitely not loreal pricing.....more mid range.......like $49 for a small tub of 60ml facial cream.......$38 for a 75ml of handcream.....$75 for 500ml of shampoo/conditioner......$183 for a tub (can't remember size) hair mask

Hi Sowie,

Sorry for such a late reply. Not been feeling well last 2 weeks.

Lavera's shampoo did make my hair a little stringy but once i used the hair conditioner, it's better. Must admit that I've used much better conditioners than theirs except that I like the idea i'm not putting any chemicals into my system when using Lavera.

Most products claim that they use no chemicals but you have to be very careful about reading labels to confirm that. Lavera is one of the few that's chemical free. So is Jurlique. Aesop is at least honest that they do use some man-made ingredients but minimal. Also, if you intend to use most of their products for longer than 6 months on opening, they recommend that you store in the fridge to prevent spoilage. That is the proof there's very little preservative in them. So what I do is transfer products out 2 small travel containers they sell, for use in bathroom and store the main jars in fridge.

For those with sensitive skins, go down to the store at Millenia Walk 01-57d Tel: 6336 4747.
Look for Ella let her know. She's very helpful.

Aesop is not classified as mid range. Would be on the high end. I say that cos for those prices, you are getting only a small amount. But worth it if suitable for your skins. Have fun trying : )

Bikergal 2004: cheapest place to buy would be Oz. Dunno about HK.

Hi Furball,

You've mentioned dat Lavera uses alcohol as preservatives.. alcohol can be irritating to the skin..hmmm, how abt Jurlique? What does it use as preservatives? And is it really chem-free??

hi hi furball, yahhh, Ella also helped me yesterday, she's really nice. Gave me some samples too.

She gave me the B Triple C to try. I like it! The texture is weird but it cracks me up to. ahaha

I think Aesop would be execellent for people with senstive skin or just looking for a simple, fuss free yet effective skin care. I've not tried their hair or body care yet, so not too sure.

Went into their website to read. Very informative, very open with their dealings, somehow it's nice to know that.

Anyone else have used it and found it good?

Hi TeaChild,

Took me a while to get to your posting. Was suspended for being open about my facialist's services. Anyway, I'm back!

About alcohol in Lavera's products, they are mostly non-irritating. With the exception of the toners, cos even the toner for dry skins feels quite volatile. Didn't feel the alcohol in the other pdts.

As for Jurlique, I used them during a time when I wasn't so serious about reading labels : ) But you can go to their store to have a look. Only thing I didn't like was that the pdts there are a bit emollient for oily skins, that was many years ago when I was much younger...he he! Some pdts like the handcream, the face recovery gel, are pretty good....from my memory.

Hi Sugarbaby,
Glad you discovered Aesop. Yes, their website is very informative. Just the way I like it : ) Dunno about it being suitable to sensitive skins, one has to try it to tell. Cos for my sensitive skin, sometimes pdts high in essential oils can be a bit too reactive.

Hope that helps...
