Hi Wee, nope my granite top is new i.e. it was just installed. It's just 1-2 small areas (measuring around the size of a 50 cents coin) that feels kinda rough. Is that what's called 'pitting' in natural stones?

i guess so. but 50 cent coin size is quite a big spot.

I think you can get your contractor to fill it in with some sort of polish so that the pitting will not be exposed to dirt and grim, which will be difficult to remove or clean later on

I thnk ur id trying to bluf u.... black galaxy is common stone that many stockists in Singapore have..... even though local has no stock, usually the supplier (where id buy) will buy from China (world major stone stockist). It will take approximately 2 weeks to bring in from China

Hi My Id is charging me 69 pfr for top-bottom cabinets and 90 pfr for granite top..not India granite but China granite.
The only colors i am allowed to chose in their promo range are those light colors....like speckled grey, or off white with grey n orange flecks (very light) or more offwhite with a pinkish or pale greenish tinge. He says the actual price is 120 but he is giving me this offer...am I being short-changed here?? Or is that the price range for China granite?

Hi All,

GRANITE looks good and it is expensive, words of caution, DO NOT cut acidic foods, e.g. lime, lemons, oranges on the surface of your beautiful granite table top, it will stain almost permanently.... so be careful

2 years ago I had an Eljer ROK Granite Composite kitchen sink installed. This was a product from the Astracast Company. 5 days ago I poured hot water in the sink and the sink cracked in about 45 places. They say that these sinks are heat resistant to 530 degrees, but mine still cracked. Unfortunately I have had granite counter tops cut to fit around this particular sink. I would not recommend this sink. If I could find a stainless steel sink that would fit in the opening that I have I would buy it in a minute. Also, the people at Astracast will not return e-mails or phone calls regarding the warranty on this product or any explanation to why it cracked. Very poor service indeed. If you do choose to go with a granite composition sink, please choose another brand from another company.

Sorry I can't really help out at all but just wanted to say that just this morning I was looking at a brochure for a company that updates kitchens as I am thinking our kitchen could definitely do with a lift too. They replace granite bench tops and replace cupboard doors/drawers leaving the existing fitted cupboards etc. (basically, exactly what you are suggesting). Not sure where you are, but they are in Mornington (called Granite Transformations. Sorry, not sure if you are allowed to post business names, so if that gets deleted, PM me). ETA - just realised they are in Melbourne and quite a few other locations across Vic too (and Australia for that matter, I think).

Alternatively, for the kitchen and bathroom, you are probably best just to start getting quotes to get an idea of prices and what is 'doable'.

Also, I think (??) that you would select the gas top first so that when they are making/fitting the bench they have the right measurements to cut the space to fit the appropriate appliance. But I am NO expert, so please don't go on my advice alone.

All the best.

Hi please help though I'm years late.
I'm planning to build a mini island as a surprise gift for my parents but I'm pretty clueless as I'm still a student. My parent's kitchen has plain black with no sparkly designs granite counter tops and white cabinets.
How much sol a slab of black granite cost for a measurement of 4ft by 2.5ft 1" thick including polishing and waterproofing? Where can I get it at a good price and quality?
