Hi Gina,

overall, aust has beautiful scenery but
depending what type of scenery u want. if u wan more victoria look, u can try melbourne. Sydney will be quite similar to singapore. if u like natural scenery like mountain, history site.. try tasmania.

when u planning to have ur PS? cos the season in aust is differnt. Summer in dec, winter in June.

Hello all,

I'm in Perth and i'm getting married in Jul 10 (10months time! ekk!). This forum's been really useful and I've planned my wedding by evaluating everyone's comments in this forum. Time's precious whenever we go to Singapore. On top of stuffing ourselves silly with food, we dont have time to waste on venues and bridal shops who cant offer good service. We booked everything so:

Reception - Four Seasons Hotel
BS - Whitelink
Church - St Theresas

We'll be going back in Oct to for trial makeup and choose my wedding gown and over xmas for photoshoot. Only only problem is to find that 15 days that we need to be in Singapore before we can notify ROM and its hard to fit it around work schedule and limited amount of leave!

Gina - Perth has lots of gorgeous scenary too and its closer. Kings park, UWA and cottesloe beach are favourite spots.

Hi Sher,

What do u mean by 15 days to be in singapore before you can notify ROM? Cos I asked ROM about the registration which we need to go to the centre to show our IC, birth etc, they replied it will be 3-5 days before the wedding date.

I'm having my wedding on 19 & 20 Jun 2010 and has also booked the hotel, Bridal Service and Church.. but we not going for pre-wedding shoot so dun have to go back singapore again for photo shoot....

we going back this dec for gown trying, trial make-up, food tasting, collect wedding card, engage photographer, videographer, live band....

the negative thing i found out living oversea to prepare the wedding is - have to prepare everything in advance!

Hi Josie,

On the ROM website (http://app.rom.gov.sg/internet/reg_info/rom_preparation.asp), it says

At least 1 of the 2 parties to an intended marriage must have been resident within Singapore for at least 15 days before he or she may file a notice of marriage. This applies to all regardless of citizenship.

So cos we're in Aust, we need to be in singapore for 15 days and file the notice of marriage on the 16th day (to be safe).

Hi Josie & Sher,

Thanks for your infor.

Perth tickets by budget airlines are going for only $200 plus with taxes.

However, I'm not familiar with perth, aussie or tasmania. So don't know which to chose.

Since my wedding is going to be either end of 2010 or early 2011. I still have some time to do research.

Do you think a 4 days 3 nights is enough for PS in australia? I know is kind of far to travel from one place to another.

Have to put aside my leave.

HI Sher, gosh i didnt realise that i was still getting updates on this thread. anyway, when i was planning everything, I spoke to ROM to find out abt the 15 days thing. Apparently if you can show proof that you work and live overseas, then fill in the application to say you were residing in sg for 15 days but when you have the appt for verification of your id etc etc, show them the paperwork (work visa, letter from employer etc etc. you might want to double check.

Hey Gina - wildflowers are everywhere in September so spring is definitely a good time for a photoshoot in Australia (if you don't get hayfever from pollen that is)

There are heaps of places that are scenic in and around Perth, but it really depends on what you're looking for! Around the boat house at Mounts Bay Road, and UWA, and the foreshore are very popular places for wedding photoshoots

Hey Sher

All the best in your planning! I've just gone back 2 weeks ago for 2 weeks to keep up with the planning etc... that was quite mad (our wedding is 26 and 27 Dec) Well at least you've got the major stuff settled already, like venues and bridal studio.

Have a great 15 days with the fabulous food when you go back next month!

Hi All,

I had a look under the FAQ section on ROM and found the following information:

Q: I am a Singapore Permanent Resident and my spouse to be is a foreigner. Does he/she need to meet the requirement for 15 days stay before filing notice?

A: Either party has to stay physically in Singapore for 15 days continuously before filing notice of marriage.

I dont like our chances
sad.gif
I wish we dont have to stay for 15 days before filing but I suppose we can organise the wedding while we're there. But there's limited leave available and we barely have enough for the wedding

Hi all,

I have received the reply from ROM. They can arrange a special marriage license (SML) at the fee of $200. They will invite you and ur fiance to ROM 1 to 2 weeks before the date of solemnisation. Have to provide invoices from wedding vendors such as dinner, bridal services etc, a recent letter from employer stating you are employed overseas and a copy of the invitation email from ROM (in this case you have to write to them personally).

So the conclusion is that, either spent more than 15 days (cos arrival day not counted) in Singapore or spent $200 for the special marriage licence(SML).

did't know getting married back home is so troublesome...

Hi Sher and Josie

If not, will you consider having your ROM in Australia... or is that not an option at all?

When are your big days?

Hi Charmaine,

My wedding is june 2010. So it is abit difficult to change to register in Australia. And I have already book the church and stuff.. so can't really change.... no choice will have to spent the $200 to get the SML. it is much better than spenting $1300 to $1500 on air ticket and waste my annual leave...

Hello All,

Just got back from Singapore and we stuff ourselves silly! We ate and we ate..we were eating our takeaway boxes of char kwey teow and hokkien mee and was trying to finish our old chang kee curry puffs while waiting for our luggage at Perth airport hahaha...

We were at Whitelink(Bridal Shop) for 5 1/2 hours trying on gowns after gowns..it was hard work but i'm glad we got everything sorted out. So for those who are going back to pick your wedding gowns, it might be worthwhile considering splitting it up to 2 sessions. We did trial makeup, tried wedding gown, evening gown, outdoor photoshoot gown all at the same time.

Hi Josie,

In regards to the filing notice of marriage, what does that mean?

Does it mean booking a JP for my solemnization? Or that I have to be in Sg for 15 days b4 the wedding?

Sher -> how much was ur package with WL? Care to share?

josiedare

New Member
Hi Hamlet,

When u filing a notice of marriage, you need to be in Singapore 15 days before the filing date. For example, if you intend to get married on 15 June, you need to file a notice 21 days min to 3 month max which is 15 march(max). then you need to reach singapore at 27th Feb. The arrival date is not counted in. If you intend not to go back singapore to fulfill the 15 days requirement like me, then you need to email to ROM personally. So they can advise you what to do. Most probably, they will allow you to have the special marriage licence(SML) which cost $200. They will invite you meet them 1 to 2 weeks before your soleminisation date with some documents include the email invitation from ROM.

Booking a JP has no requirement as far as I know. The only thing I know there is application form to fill in with JP signature. Usually JP will only sign it 3 month before your soleminisation date.

By the way, you are in Brissy. Same here! Me in Brissy as well!!

I'm going back sg in 4 weeks time including this week.

So when is ur big day?

Hi Hamlet,

I paid $3688 and that includes

- 1xWG exclusive range off the rack
- 1xEG MTM
- 1 x tea dress
- 2 suits for htb
- suits for both dads
- 3 bridesmaid dress, 3 groomsmen suits
- hand bouquet, corsages
- makeup (trial, photoshoot, actual day)
- 50 thank you cards
- 48 page photo album
- 2 x4R photo album for both parents
- mercedes with chauffeur and full tank for AD
- indoor and outdoor photoshoot
- table top glass display x 1

oh dear..i cant remember it all but thats the bulk of it hee...as usual, i picked dresses from the designer range and paid $800 more for my wedding gown and $500 for my evening gown. Wedding gown is full lace and took them 6 months to handsew Swarovski crystals and beads..i tried a few gowns from the exclusive range as well and they are gorgeous too! I'm limited with choices cos i'm having a church wedding and prefer a dress with a massive train so they dont have lots to choose from.

Either way, I have to say that the service has been fantastic. I'll be bring some timtams back for them in Dec so i'm hopoing everything will go extremely well!

I've been looking at accommodation for guests and will be checking these two places out:

http://www.thehotelalternatives.com/singapore/hotels.html

http://www.moveandstay.com/singapore/apartments_description.asp?id=35407#specialrate

I'm hoping they are decent and hassle free!

Hi Josie,

My big day would be early 2011, but I am very 'kiasu', so I am starting to plan now.

So if I intend to get a JP for my solemnization, I do not have to meet that 15 day requirement? Or I still have to?
So confusing, why is it such a hassle to get married back home! *sigh*

Sher-> Your package is really good, would consider that, esp it's WL! Once u get ur pics, don't forget to share it with us!

Hi Hamlet,

Yeah its true that married back home is so troublesome.. but no choice. you still need to meet the 15 days requirement regardless soleminisation outside ROM or inside ROM.

I'm staying around city area. how abt u?

Hi Hamlet,

I assume ur fiance is staying in Australia as well rite. cos as long one of you able to stay in Singapore for the 15 days then u or ur fiance are able to file for notice. just to make it clear cos i did't mention it in last msg. ; )

Hi Josie,

Yeap, but it's kinda impossible as we have to work. Anyway, I would just pay for the SML thinggy instead, would save me trouble.

Hi All,

I am also living in Brisbane but getting married in SG in Feb 2010..

It is such a struggle to prepare things when you are away..

On one note.. I actually ring up ROM about my situation & enquire about the 15 day stay period (because I also do not have that much leave to take)...

But I wasn't told at all about the SML thingy that Josie was told..

The person just told me that one of us (either my fiance or myself needed to be in SG for 15 days...)

I think it be a good idea to ring them up to double-confirm..

sher02

Hi Dino,

I got my mum to ring ROM earlier this month and tell them that we're leaving overseas and cant take any leave to stay in SG for 15 days and ssked about the SML. They have confirmed that we can do it for a fee (i think its $200-250) so we'll lodge it close to the wedding.

I found a lot of useful information on this website and cos we're so far away, i've been picking people who I feel that I can trust and they have experience with the venue etc etc. So far we booked the following:

Church - St Theresa
Florist - Blissfulthots
BS - Whitelink
Reception - Four Seasons
PG & VG - Filming Art
Live Band - Yours Truly

Let me know if you need any info!

Hi. Its nice to know there are many singaporeans staying in Aus and getting married in Singapore. I must agree it is stressful organising a wedding from overseas. Im staying in Sydney. Any one has a schedule for a typical singaporean wedding day?

Thanks!

Hey Sher,

Just a quick question to ask though.. Are you a Singapore citizen?

After reading all that you all of written, I had actually emailed ROM, and they said that if one of us (either your fiance, or yourself is a Singapore citizen by birth), you can just go ahead and file a wedding notice (but under the section - when they ask if you had been in Singapore for 15 days, you just state "Yes")

After checking with them, my fiance and I had just file our wedding notice yesterday, and we did not have to pay the $200+ dollars..

Maybe want to double check?

Hey Sher,

Yah, likewise for me, I had only made 1 trip back to SG so far to prepare for wedding (other than that, it had been by word of mouth, checking online, forum, relying on friends to get stuff done
happy.gif

Thank God all is good, although I have to say that we are running abit late with the wedding invites coz I am getting married on 6th Feb, my invitation cards are not out yet :p

Church: Queenstown Chinese Methodist Church
Florist: Still thinking
BS: Ted Collection
Make up Artist: Still thinking
PG: 1950 Photography - Chuian Feng
VG: Feel Media
Reception: Grand Copthorne Waterfront

Well.. coz end up I am going ala carte.. so there are much more things that I need to deal with... but it has been fun but at the same time stressful at the same time

Hi gals,

Currently, I'm in Singapore now. going back Aust this coming sat.. sob sob... I'm same with u gals, only make 1 trip to prepare everything. this holiday is so fully packed with appointments. and has to attend the engaged encounter, chose my gowns, get my invitation cards, engage the photographer, videographer..etc.

Church: Church of Holy Cross
Forist: Our friend
BS: Labelle
PG: Jason Tan (Our friend)
VG: Fotowerke
Reception: Novotel Clarke Quay
Live Band: Hav't decide but think it will be little dream

We are doing some DIY stuff, so have to buy material back to aust... there is still some stuff hav't source yet, like wedding ring, car decoration bear.. and even our brothers and sisters, we still hav't decide.. now realise preparation for wedding is a headache but fun as well. ; )

Hi Irene,

THink a typical schedule for Singaporean will be
gatecrashing -> tea ceremony at groom's hse -> tea ceremony at bride's hse -> Hotel for preparation -> cocktail -> DInner commence

if you have church wedding, then it will depend on ur service/mass time. For me, my schedule will be as follow

Day 1 (morning)
gatecrashing -> church wedding -> outdoor photo taking -> tea ceremony at groom's hse -> tea ceremony at bride's hse -> outdoor photo taking

Day 2 (evening)
cocktail -> Dinner commence

I'm having 2 separate days cos my church soleminsation is in late morning and want to be more relax so we chose to have it separate day. and we do not have pre-wedding photo, so take this opportunity to have some outdoor shooting.

hope this help.

Hi Dino,

I called ROM just now, the officer said that either one of us has to be in singapore for 15 days before we could file for notice. Else, we could email to ROM and they will advise us how to apply for SML. So it is a must to stay in Singapore for 15 days even though we are singaporean.

I suggest you either call or email them again.

Hi all,

I'm back from Singapore. It is a long good holiday for me though I'm busy preparing my wedding stuff. Eat alot of food, so now it is time for my diet plan... tried my gown, but unable to fit in. so have to slim down alot to squeeze into it hehe...

Hope you gals enjoy the christmas break and have a great and fun 2010. Enjoy your wedding preparation!

Hello All,

Back from SG too! As usual, eat and eat and eat. Had my PS on 27th so no buffet until after that. Picked my photos on 31st and they turned out pretty good so we're happy..just not happy with the additional $1K we had to pay! ;p

Managed to get a lot done so appointments after appointments everyday.

Anyone here marrying a non-chinese? We didn't get a chance to see the card printing people so don't know how the chinese version of the invite will look like with english words for FH and in-laws..hmm...

Hi Sher, I'm marrying a non-chinese too and he's an australian. I had appointments back to back too when I was back in sg a month ago!

We checked with a card printing shop here in Sydney, they actually do chinese wordings too, though not sure if its the same in Perth. But I'm sure your invite from the sg shop with the english words should look fine.

They're all pretty standard.

Hi everyone!
Glad to know that everyone is making progress... As for me, I am going back during the CNY period to book my venue and BS. I managed to find the perfect wedding gown here in Aussie so I guess I will be wearing it on my AD. Anyone had bought their own WG?

Hi Josie,

I had super duper double confirmed with the officer. He said that this is a new ruling, that as long as one of you is a Singaporean by birth (pink ic) ... the couple will not need to fulfill the 15 days requirement.. It is a rather new rule, & he said that perhaps some front-line officers are still unaware about it..

You can drop me an email & I can forward you his reply. If you unsure, you can give him a call

Hope it helps all the brides who are wondering how they can file their wedding notice with tight leave issues...
