Anyone getting Ipad this Friday?

The cost of making an iPAD by some estimates is half the price.. so Apple making 100% profit.. actually not true as they have invested in R&D.. but R&D cost per unit will be very low now considering that they have sold so many units.. and the iPAD & iPhone share the same OS.
Regarding flash memory chips, this is what I cut and paste from google:

FLASH MEMORY CHIPS
Flash memory chips were also a significant portion of the iPad's costs. The chips, obtained from various suppliers including Samsung, account for $29.50 in costs on the 16 GB model, $59 on the 32 GB model, and $118 on the 64 GB model, according to Rassweiler.

So of course they make more money with the higher-end model..

i prefer to look at value, rather than cost... this will apply in almost everything, even watches or cars. there are some things that money cannot buy... if we take the ipad, i have no replacement alternative for it at the moment... until such an alternative comes about, i think they can choose to list their price.

i like it that apple is able to sell its products at a premium. that they have the resource therefore to apply meticulous attention to the design of their products. if all you want is the cheapest IT products with the best specs, you have too many options already.

I am not particular fan or apple.. and normally I don't "value" a product just because it is made by someone.

But somehow, in the iPAD, apple has created something that is quite out of the ordinary. It is not perfect but the ease of use cannot be understated.

Windows is over-bloated with 90% of the features that we don't use.. not to mention how it can crash.

For most casual users who like to surf, watch videos, look at photos, the usual social networking, emails, chatting - the iPAD is more than enough..

Netbook is cheaper.. but the ease of use and user experience is far far from the iPAD. till they have a better tablet device. Android-based tablet should also be coming out soon..

"I prefer to look at value, rather than cost"...
the value is clearly not the memory. Frankly the reason why I feel its no point being charged for the extra 32GB memory. A 16GB or 32GB is good enough for basic browsing which is the purpose of the iPad.

yup, i'm advocating 32 as more than enough... previously i had only a short period to make the decision... and usd 100 more for a 64G sounds ok to me, so i Onz the fella...

i'm a consumer not a techie... as long as if 2 same sized bags... 1 can carry more items, i will pay abit more for that bag.

It is 150 S$ extra to get the 64GB over 32GB.

I have a different profile than most.

Firstly, I have tonnes of photographs.. so I will load it up. My daughters have tonnes of songs..

64GB is not enough for me.. Actually I wish iPAD has a USB port (sad to say, it is missing) so that I can hook up external hd.

Buy house can wait for price to fall, buy iPad cannot... I'm using it now... Must have. And I dun even like apple products... But credit where it's due!

You can get "illegal" iPAD in sim lim..

But after friday it will be officially launched.

iPhone4 is cos of the antenna.. but basically it is just a better version (in terms of display and functions) over the iphone3gs.

No, iPhone 4 is definitely not 4G phone.

Usually, dongle development is ahead of that of handsets, and there is no commercial 4G dongle on the market currently.

Doll.... You can read about the phone reviews. Both HTC incredible & Evo have been out in the mkt for some months. But just that there isn't much operators with LTE. So far only Verizon in the states.

iPhone 4 is tied to another operator AT&T which isn't on LTE just yet. And the iPhone is not supporting full 4G features...

I just got back - got 2 iPads, the maximum I can buy. I went there at 9:45am and there was already a queue of more than 50 people in front of me..

Waiting till 10:30 and I got mine.. After me, the most got 5 more people who managed to get theirs. The 30 or 40 odd after that have to be disappointed and was turned away.

I heard in town people queueing since 6am. There are altogether 30 stores selling - smaller store has about 100 only, bigger stores probably have more..

I think it will be sold-out by lunch time.. and you can probably place your order and wait..

Not so bad. I was in the queue for less than an hour. After 30 minutes was already given sales memo (which still in the queue) while those in front was processing.

Those who did have the sales memo can actually go off without queueing.

Funny thing is got uncle and aunty walked by and asked what we were queueing for.. asking whether got free things or anything special..

sm, yah... that's exactly what I'm referring to. Folks that queue and rush to buy simply to join the crowd. It makes the queue longer than needed. Lots of emotional shopping on the spur of moment.

Funny thing is that those 30 or 40 odd people who did not have the sales memo - ie, no iPAD for them - they still continue to stand in the queue.. I would have walked off if there is no iPAD for me.

u should ask them to get the memo... offer them $5 each... then sell the memo for $50..., 10 times will cover half your pad price...

IPad pens?? Thought of getting from overseas spree. My husband was lucky, got free ipad (32G not 3G) from his company that he've just joined.

iPad pens??? For?

My iPad (3G) also FOC which I will be receiving in the next few weeks I hope hehe.

Does your husband use it for work purposes?

Yours got meh??

Now must spend some $$ to get the cover and anti-scratch screen protection. Did you get your accessories at Epi Centre?

My name not silly!

I need to get a few things before getting started, Thomas, I think? And I am going to get my colleague to cut the SIM card for me on Monday. I also have a SIM card adaptor to fit my micro SIM card with for my laptop.

I am so busy.

Already ordered all my accessories through my colleague. All coming on Monday including SIM card cutting. But I think I will start using tonight.
