hmmm... i didnt go there around this time. and i kinda went there for like 3 days ??
and it was like 2yrs ago... i am not really the "eat" person... but i must say.... i didnt really feel safe there... (maybe i too sensitive...) oh wells.....
shopping is almost everywhere... but i was more at daxin road looking at all those artistic stuffs... *grins*

Hi Tortoise, I frequent GZ for business trips. Some places you can consider going, ShangXiaJiu, Beijing lu, DiWangGuanzZhang, TianHe Cheng for cloths. If you want Handicrafts and sourvenirs go YiDeLu. If you wanna buy cloths wholesale go to BaiMa. For foodwise everywhere also about the same, but this jap restaurant has really nice

I've stayed in GZ for last 2 yrs in Tian He district. GZ is a more down to earth place and not really unsafe. Juz be careful and speak more chinese so tat pp will not know u are not local.
For shopping, I would recommend Yide Road as David mentioned. Clothings at Guangzhou zhang Xi Road, Kai Rong Du clothing center (carry international brands) are much better than Baima which are more for local & korean brands. Always make it a point to go in the early morning as such places usually close by 5 - 6pm since they are selling wholesale. At night, then go over to Beijing Road, where u can find fake bags at the little alley called Tai Bai Leather City.
Roku is a good place for Jap food but in GZ, u really need to eat authentic canto food. I always like to have dim sum for Breakfast at Cai Yuan (Tian He District, Ti Yu Dong Road, Bai Fu Guang Cang 2nd floor) or Dao Xiang at Tian He Cheng, Dinner at Bing Sheng. U must drink their canto soup, its really super good. Any chinese restuarants serve tat.
Chinese Massage, if you want high class one, u can try Oriental Taipan, where they also have food provided, such as macau bun and cost around RMB 168? Or local ones will be around RMB50.

From Guangzhou East Railway station, you can get a through train to Hung Hom station in HK (1hr 50min). Upon reaching HK, u can take MTR to anywhere in HK. Train ticket costs from HKD190 or ~CNY190. Another cheaper way is to turn up at Guangzhou East railway station, take the CRH to ShenZhen station (1hr). Trains are 10 to 15min freq, just buy the ticket with departure times in about 20~30mins. Train tix from RMB75. Upon reaching Shenzhen walk for 3 to 5mins under the covered walkway to Luo Hu immigration clearance. China & HK customes are housed in the same building. after immigration clearance, u will find urself at the entrance of Luo Hu MTR station. both trains offer comfy seats even if u choose the cheapest train tix. eles there are dozens of buses departing from various GZ hotels to HK.
guangzhou's city district has alot of shopping and huge malls going around. theres a mall specially for electronic products too, you can find fake-originals there too, the variety there is SUPERB and the throngs of people there are really people-mountain-peple-sea.
food-wise, do try to eat mainly at restaurents and establishments as the street-food hygiene standard isnt as good as we would like to believe.
Transportation-wise, its quite convenient to go around, they have MRT-like systems running thru the city, and also taxis that go around too.
Roti-prata is considered an exotic food there, and you pay premium price for it too (iirc).
