Any Singaporeans Staying In Overseas

Hi gals,

Karen's wedding is on the 22nd of Nov if I remember correctly. I think she just got back from Perth cos I managed to chat with her today.

Karen,
Thanks for sharing the photoshoot pics. They are really stunning. I never imagined Bintan to provide for such spectacular photoshoot backgrounds. Well done! Your gowns are all really lovely. The indoor photoshoot really makes you look like a model :p

Tootsieroll,
Ok, will email you so I can get your Hp number in Singapore and sms you when I want to meet up. I'm salivating at the thought of eating dim sum again. Can't wait. 22 more days to go!

Meanwhile, the weather here in Turin has taken a turn. The nights are cold but luckily it's still rather sunny in the daytime. I think I will soak in a lot of sun when I am back in Singapore and try to 'bring' a bit back here with me.

Oh good news, the Singaporean 'population'in Turin will increase from early Dec. With that I actually mean that there will be another Singaporean coming over here to stay but only for a year. She will be the 4th Singaporean living in Turin.

Yeah Ee-ling I realised that a few minutes after I posted I saw Karen online. Still better late than never.
happy.gif
Wow you will soon have more 'kakis' in Turin. Can start your own Singaporean Club.
wink.gif

Have fun with the packing Tootsieroll! Hee! Hee! I left most of my T-shirts and 'summer' clothing in S'pore so I don't usually pack much when I go home. But my mum wants my cupboard space so I always end up taking more clothes back with me to the UK.
happy.gif
Lucky you to have a Dim Sum stall nearby. I missed all those 'Paus' especially the char siew ones. Looks like your puppy is ready for his Singapore Adventure! Bon Voyage.

Yeah Karen your photoshoot pics are really lovely. You & Edwin make a handsome couple! Looking forward to seeing your wedding photos soon. Will try and catch you before your big day.

eeling & tootsie,
i'll be back from 22/11-10/12. looking fwd to lunch! my rom is on 9/12 so will be finalising rom prep during this trip too.

karen,
who's your photographer? mine just informed me about an error in his schedule and that he won't be able to make it on my actual day! *headache* now i have to start meeting photographers again.

mrs n,
it's my first winter here but weather has been kind to me so far.
happy.gif
the locals say it's been unusually warm for this time of the year so i'm crossing all my finggies and tootsies this winter will be really mild! when's easter? i'm going back next march for my sister's wedding so we can meet up if you're back during that time too!

miso,
where are you? how are you doing in Nagano? haven't heard from you in a while, hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Lace Craze that would be nice. Easter's on 8 April. I am going back in the last weekend of March. When is your sis's wedding?

Wow Miso that's so cool. I like it when it snows. But not the slush and ice that it leaves behind. Too slippery for me!

Hi Lace-craze,

My cousin is getting married on 9th Dec, same day as your ROM. So I bet you will be busy till then. If you are able to meet up in between, email me [email protected]

Sorry to hear about your photographer. That's not very professional of him. I hope you find another photographer soon.I didn't have photographer 'problems' for my wedding since my so called 'photographers' were my friends and a couple of relatives! We made do without a professional photoshoot session :p

Yeah, weather's turning cold but I'll be escaping to sunny Singapore in less than 20 days. Will have to take in more sunshine I am there to last me through the winter when I get back. Does it get windy where you gals are? Thankully in Turin, it doesn't get very windy since we are protected by the surrounding alps.

Hi People,

Yes yes, it's been a long while since I've had my posting in this forum. Believe you me, I have been really busy!!

My wedding was just over on the 18th Nov - yup, been married officially for like 3 days now. We had a busy day starting with tea ceremony in the morning at 11:30am, some of our relatives were late, but having said that we had to serve tea to around 44 relatives in total for both sides of the family. Then there was church ceremony at 2pm, I was half and hr late - well it started with the guests turning up late after which whilst waiting at the lift lobby of my bridal suite I forgotten my bouquet after my photographer asked me where they were, anyways - only just realized after we had to rush back to my room to get it. After all that church stuff was over, I rushed back to the suite having to do some last minute table rearrangments with the sudden turn up of my cousin and her husband whom had decided to join us at the the dinner - all in all, for the dinner at Equinox, all were treated to a feast and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. Our guests both overseas and locally stood in awe with the spectacular view, but more importantly, I was just glad they enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.

Am now awaiting for my wedding photos coming out in 3 weeks time
happy.gif
with my videography out in a week's time. After nine months of planning, I am just glad everything turned out well for the big day
happy.gif

Mrs N:

Thanks for your compliments on those wedding shoots. My wedding planner just sms me today requesting our permission to place them with couple of the magazines so if we're on, I'll be the first to go out and get a copy and let you know hehehe
happy.gif

Lace Craze:

Sorry to hear that your photographer pulled out last minute with a prior assignment. We booked with Pixel 1 Photography - they are pretty cool bunch of people, you might want to check with them on the availbility if you get a chance to meet with them. There are two pretty cool guys - Wilson and Sean, if you do meet with them, just mentioned Edwin and Karen - St Andrew's Cathedral 18th November. They'll remember I am sure
happy.gif
just email me if you need their numbers will pass that over to you.

Alright we'll leave it here for now, speak soon! Apologies once again for the sudden disappearance during those last few weeks leading up to my big day
happy.gif
just glad it's over now.

Catch ya soon!

Cheers!

miso,
so glad to hear from you here! will you be coming back to s'pore this winter? my fiance and i have finally found an apartment after a long search so we're moving out of the service apartment when we get back to tokyo in jan. think it'd be cold in tokyo then so hope it'd not be inconvinient to move. i'm really looking fwd to settling into the new place fast.

mrs n,
my sister's wedding is on 23-24 march. i'm planning to return to tokyo after that actually but it really depends if my sis still needs my help after her wedding. let's update each other closer to the date!

icy,
it's great news to hear your hubby's 90% confirmed! i'm already looking fwd to your arrival
happy.gif
)) i'm planning to take up Japanese (more seriously) in Jan but just the thought of studying makes me feel so lazy! i need to be more motivated !

eeling,
will you be attending your cousin's rom? 9 dec seems to be a super hot date for wedding! everyone's been telling me that....heehee... some wedding car rental firms said even their black cars are being snapped up due to the lack of supply of other more auspicious coloured ones! real glad i booked mine a long way back......i'm actually quite superstitious about colours!

Hi lace_craze,

Yes, I will be attending my cousin's wedding on 9th Dec. It's going to be a whole day's affair cos we have to be at her place at 7.30am for the grooms' gate-crashing session at 8am then at 9am, we have to head off to the church for the ceremony and reception afterwards. Then there is the dinner on the same night.

happy.gif
Well, I think you should enjoy it as much as you could, it will be memorable I am sure.

Ee-Ling

Understand you're returning to Sg on the 9th Dec? How long you here for? Let me know if we could squeeze in some time to meet up

I am flying out on the 19th Dec so hopefully we can meet before I fly out or at most we'll meet after my return on the 26th Dec.

Hi girls,

I need a little 'help'. Have any of you got ideas for how to 'tekan' a groom? I'm going to be one of the jie meis for my cousin's wedding and we are trying to pool our ideas together.

thanks!

lace_craze

New Member
ee-ling,
based on my past research for tekan methods, here's a few i can remember:
1) get groom and entourage to wear brightly-coloured undies on the outside (rem Superman?) and perform sing and dance

2) get them to apply lipstick and kiss on mahjong paper to form a gigantic heart shape - gift for the bride (and good chance for jie mei to put unwanted lipstick to good use)

3) waxing of leg hair - can be messy though

i'm actually thinking of executing 1 and 2 on my bro-in-law to-be and his xiong dis next march unless i find even more entertaining ways to tekan them!

ee_lingt

New Member
Lace-craze,

Thanks for your suggestions. The ideas are hilarious. Will discuss with the other jie meis about them. Number 3 has a high 'ouch' factor besides being messy :p

lace_craze

New Member
no prob at all! forgot to mention that the alternative to brightly-coloured undies is disposable diapers. do let me know if your other jie meis have good ones to share too!
happy.gif

ee_lingt

New Member
Lace_craze,

Some of our ideas are :
1.get the groom to go down to the bottom of the block and shout various mushy phrases and sing love songs in English, Mandarin and a dialect.

2.groom has to chose the 'right ear' aka 'his future bride's ear' from a series of photos of various ears shown to him.

Hi girls, long time no see. Been reading the posts but haven't had a chance to reply.

Ee-ling you must be busy preparing for your trip back to S'pore! Here's wishing you a safe & pleasant journey.

Lace Craze, yah we can talk about meeting up closer to the date. Not long before your ROM too. You must be excited.

Karen have you gone back to work? Your life should be back to normal now that the wedding's over and done with and you can look forward to your trip.

I've been busy in the last few days. Yeah doing more posters for Advent. Spent almost the whole day in church in the past week. On Friday night we helped our priest put up the Jesse Tree. My hubby brought some fast hardening concrete to put into the pot so the tree wouldn't fall over. But it was so heavy (tree + ceramic pot + concrete) that the three of us had to huff and puff to get it into the church! Needless to say, the tree looked great with all the old testament symbols hanging from it. Made all that back-breaking work worth it. I woke up on Saturday with my body aching all over from my labours of the previous night. Oh, age must be catching up with me!
lol.gif
I thought I could have a relaxing day on Saturday, by making an Advent wreath out of the pine and conifers in our garden. But in doing so, I introduced all sorts of weird insects into our house. So had to spend part of the afternoon chasing them out!
biggrin.gif
I think they were happy to get out of our house anyway unlike that stupid fly who came in one day and refused to leave. Finally got him after 3 weeks of annoying us.
happy.gif
Yes we're definitely going to get a fly 'zapper'. So all future flies had better watch out!
nono.gif

Anyway hope all you good ladies are keeping well and do keep this thread going yah? It seems to be a bit quiet lately. Looks like everyone's gone on a holiday.

Hi Mrs N,

You should put up a pic of the Jesse tree so we can all admire it :p

I'm flying out of Italy tomorrow morning. I've been busy getting Christmas gifts to distribute to family and friends here before I leave (check!) and also to bring back to Singapore for friends and family there (check!).

I've also just put up our Christmas 'tree -golden sprayed twigs actually) in our apartment. I know I'm leaving tomorrow so you must be wondering why bother but I thought it would be a nice surprise for my hubby and in case our friends visit whilst I am away. Plus I didn't want to let the twigs sit in the cellar for a year and go to waste.

Now, I have to try and squeeze all my barang (clothes, shoes, presents, a ton of Italian foodstuff) into my suitcase. When hubby flies down for Christmas, I'll get him to bring more Italian foodstuff down.

Plus, I need to plant some flower bulbs so we'll have flowers in early spring on our little balcony.

Can't wait to see my family and friends back in Singapore again. I'm sure the feasting will continue there. There goes my diet :p

Take care girls. For you gals in cold countries, keep warm. Will post again when I am in Singapore.

*waves* to everyone

Happy New Year to all and hope we all have a beautiful 2007!

Hi Gals...

Came across this thread while desperately looking for some advice. Was hoping your thread may be able to help me..

Advice needed: I'm getting married on 4th Feb, it is abit late asking this question but just found out I can't register in 2 different countries.

My FH is from Korea, hence we having 2 small ceremonies. 1st in Korea Feb 07, then in Singapore June 07.

Problem now: If I register in Korea, am I bound by Korean Marriage Law?? If I want to be "protected" under Singapore women's charter...how do i have to go about registering my marriage?

Any1 have similar experience or advice for me?

Tried calling ROM but (wow...can never get anyone) to no avail. Contacted Singapore Embassy in Korea but they re-directed to Singapore ROM.

Really appreciates advice n help...rather desperate. No idea who can I enquire about this.

Many thanks in advance=)

vivien, congrats on your coming rom! unfortunately, i cannot offer any solid advice on this matter. have you tried emailing S'pore ROM since you can't get them on the phone. think they are obliged to reply your email.

eeling, hope you had fun at your cousin's wedding. the weather on 9 dec was perfect, compared to the following days! the days after that seemed to experience such freakish downpour i really wonder how wedding couples coped!

Hi All,

Yes happy new year!!! Hope I am not too late with the greeting! Been a month since I read the postings in this page, indeed as what Mrs N said, it has been rather quiet
happy.gif

Been busy with work and all ever since the wedding was over last November - now it's just the aftermath of getting some of the photos printed and send out to relatives and friends. Funny thing is though I never quite felt the difference between marriages and relationships. After much planning for 9 months, it was just over within 1 day of the event ah!! It felt so unsatisfying haha.

Anyways, sounds like some of you out there are either getting married are back in SG! Sorry ee-ling since your return didn't get a chance to meet with you, again I guess it was all prior engagements and appointments etc. I presumed you must be in Perth for your holiday or something?! Hope you're enjoying the nice summer weather minus the heat in Perth at the moment
happy.gif

Mrs N: yes was good to have a quick chat with you yesterday afternoon though it's been yonks since our last convo. Seems like everyone is rather busy with everything going on in their part of the world. It sounded like you had a busy period over the christmas and new year's trust you had a good one
happy.gif

Righto, work's calling, nice to see new postings in here since the last time I came in.

Cheers!

Hi Everybody

Good to see this thread come to life! Hee! Hee!

Yeah Karen nice chatting with you even though for a short while. Been busy and still busy. But can start counting down to s'pore soon. Its just slightly over 2 months before I'm on home ground once again.
happy.gif
Hey we could try and meet up when I'm down. Maybe Lace Craze can join in too? Hey Lace Craze will you be around then?

Vivien I had two ceremonies too. I got married first in the UK (registered marriage as well as church there) and two months later came back to s'pore to have 'another' wedding in church (more renewal of vow as you can't get married twice) as well as the usual dinner. I didn't register my marriage with ROM but as I wanted to add in my married name to my IC and passport, I took my marriage cert to ICA and had my marital status updated there and then. Not too sure about the protection bit as I've never considered that when I chose to register in the UK. However if S'pore recognises my foreign marriage cert I don't see why its marraige laws shouldn't apply to me as well. I do afterall hold a S'pore passport.
happy.gif
Just wondering isn't protection under woman's charter more to do with the country you are living in rather than where you register your marriage?

Eeling hope you are having a nice time in perth! Do come back and tell us about it

Hi gals,
sorry for the long silence. I visited Perth for a week and after I went back to Singapore, I was busy as usual trying to buy stuff to bring back to Turin and also meet up with friends again and two days after that, I was back in Turin.

Then after I got back to Turin, my pc decided to go into a coma and I just got it fixed yesterday so here I am.

Hope you guys had a great New Year's and that all's well. The weather in Turin has been a bit erratic. The first few days we were back, it was really foggy but not very cold. Then it got really sunny and got up to 25 degrees last week! Now we are down to about 10 degrees but actually it isn't as cold as it should be this time of the year. I'm not complaining since I don't fancy the cold that much.

Ok, girls, once I upload all my chat programmes again, I'll be able to chat with you all online.

take care.
