Hi everyone,

I need some advice on the below:

1. How many months ahead of my solemnization should I start to look for a JP?

2. How do I go about booking an appointment with the JP? Is it through the personal email or mobile contacts of the JP or I must go through ROM website?

3. How do I know which JP to look for?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Nic, hope i can help you with the answers:

1. Usually 3 months should be more than enough cos ROM only allows you to efile up to 3 months in advance, nothing earlier.

2. You have to call your preferred JP personally to check if he/she is available on your ROM date if HP is provided. Else drop them an email, they should reply you pretty fast. Do also check on ROM website if your ROM date is available, then get your JP to sign on the consent form before you file as he/she needs to provide you with the licence no and full name.

3. Do read up from forum and i got recommendation from 1 forummer here, i chosen Mrs Chia Swee Tin which i think she makes the ROM very meaningful. She makes couples to meet her up to understand us better and to pre-run the vows so that we know what to expect during the solemnization. And she makes us write our own ring vows which i think its very personally and meaningful

Hi Brides-2-Be

Another JP that i feel is good is - Wong Poh San.
He is a Pastor but do civil marriage as well.

I managed to find him at the 11th hr cos my first JP last minute got to leave Singapore. He did not find me a replacement and i have to get another replacement within 24hrs leh cos the next day we need to go Fort Canning to verify documents. THe stress level is damned high lo

Pastor Wong agree to it and even though it was so last min, he still meet us up and even at 10pm, he still did a 'marriage-couselling' with us!!! So nice of him!!!

And on the day itself, he carry himself well and one thing good abt him is that he took effort to translate the 'impt concept' to my dad and FIL of this entire ROM process in Chinese.

And he did the entire soleminisation quite good! It is not those boring kinda and he took his time to explain the importance of marriage and the symbolic meaning of the rings etc. It may appear abit long but i think for such a impt process, it is good to be law-soh abit and not be CHOP CHOP

:p

And alas.. i wept when i exchange my vows lo

Hi Gals,

I just made a new discovery on last saturday when I attended my friend's solemnisation at the China Club. It was conducted by Mr Chia Ti Yu in Mandarin. He made it a joyous and relax affair, even the sharing to the couple on how to maintain a successful marriage life was carried out in a very relax manner instead of a serious tone which I have previously witnessed.

I immediately asked him for his contact notwithstanding that me and my bf have yet to fix the date for our solemnisation.

One new discovery to share with all of you!
