Hi, Can Anyone tell me is it any of the Grassroot leader can be solemniser? Do they need to get any of the license or approver from any of the authority.

babe> only appointed grassroot leader can solemnise. you can get the list from the ROM website go under grassroot leader.

cher81> Hi. What do you mean Dr?? Doctor to solemnizer the ROM?? Erms if the Dr is listed with the ROM than he/she can solemnize the ROM. You can check the list of JP/Solemnizer in the ROM website.

My ROM is in May but I have yet to efile cos I have not met the JP. She ask mi to confirm with here on 1st week of April. I understand we need to have the Jp's licence number b4 can efile.. If this case how? Meet her 1st after that then file?

hi loewe, you can inform your solemnizer that you have to efile and request for her license number to efile first. inform her once again that you are firm with your ROM date.

Also, I have read through the ROM website and notice a line which says customary before civil marriage is a contravention of law and penalty is jail and fine! can anyone advise if this is true? what if my customary (tea ceremony) is one day before the solemnisation? is this considered as a violation of marriage law?

Puzzled...about this wierd "law" and wondering what is the intention of having such a law. Who will care if you hold customary first or 2 years after ur ROM?

Yes I read that line before that you cannot have customary before your ROM. I told my GF about this and she dun even know cause she did her customary first than ROM.

Well I think the goverment is trying to protect the couple cause what if you do the customary first than get pregnent and the guy run away how??? *Touchwood.. Choi* I read such a case in HK before a couple had their customary than the girl got baby and the guy dun want to ROM and she sue him for maintance but did not get anything cause no marriage cert at all.

He is Mr Phua Tan Tee. Contact is 67531028 and 62130705. He is patient and rather punctual. I was there for my friend's solemisation. He is nice and after the signing of papers he will bring the couple one side to talk a few mins on his advice for a successful marriage.

thanks alot for the info =) glad to hear tat Mr. Phua is a nice person. i think you can try ur luck calling the JPs 6 mths before ur ROM but some may ask you to call them back again 2 or 3 mths before ur date. so r u going to get Mr. Phua too?

hi! i've gotten Prof Yu.. he said he has penciled in my request but wants me to confirm again in 3 mths time cos my wedding's on 26th sept 09. =p

initially me &amp; HTB wanted another JP but he wld only be available at 7pm which is too rushed for us. so we decided to get another JP and i came across this thread.

and watz more i realised that i was one of Prof Yu's students and probably attended one of his lectures back in uni. haha! but i only haf a vague impression of him.. =p

so now i'm more assured cos to choose a JP based on a name and contact bit dubious.

It depends on the JP. Like I contacted Mr Chia some 5 - 6 months before and he accepted. You can try to call him also.
