Any dentist to recommend for braces - good and at reason price

Okie, for all who's considering taking up the Damon System to speed up time for braces, here is some info i got from an Orthodontist from Mount E.

The Damon bracket system is not a new technology but one of the many
bracket systems introduced by different manufacturers every now and then. It
is one of the self-ligating bracket systems currently available on the
market.

I do not offer the Damon bracket system because I do not think it is a
much better system than the current bracket system. In its present form, it
has numerous disadvantages such as thicker brackets, difficulties in opening
and closing, higher chance of bond failure, wire ends shifting etc.

The claims that the Damon system will cause less pain and that the treatment
time will be shorter are also debatable. I also feel that, with no
significant increase in benefits over the current brackets, its current high
cost is not justifiable and the increase in cost is usually borne by the
patient.

Orthodontic treatment is more dependent on the correct diagnosis of the
malocclusion as well as the skills and experience of the orthodontist than
the tools (bracket systems) used for the treatment.

Yeap~~ I guess everything has its pros and cons. Its all up to you~~ If i'm not wrong, The Smile Clinique provides the Damon System treatment.

hi all

from wat i know.. usually consultation is about 50 bucks but if u decided to do the braces.. they will deduct from the total cost.

hmm for my Orthodontist.. once ur treatment ended and u didnt meet the price quote. he wont ask u to pay the balance leh .. and if let say ur treatment took longer ... and exceed the quote he give u previously .. he will not charge for the next subsequent treatment (from wat i observe) but i guess is case by case basis

went to alexandra hospital for my wisdom tooth thingy...then the dentist advised me to go to a orthodontist specialist instead of a general dentist as my teeth is quite complicated...
maybe i might have to do operation on my jaws or something else?...i thought mine was typical protruding and cant bite my upper n lower teeth together...upon hearing all this,i cancelled my appointment with the general dentist near my hse which only cost 3000 which i think is cheap and i am really not sure how long i hv to wait if i'm doing it in alexandra and how complicated it's gonna be...

Hi,
Just put on my braces today! come here to gather inform on 'how to keep your braces clean'...

I went to the one at Adelphi (opp Funan)- A Line Dental. Dr Tan the orthodontist is really specialising in this area... He is fast in his act; my teeth extraction earlier was of not much pain; putting on braces seems to be a breeze too. Guess what, I almost fell asleep on the dental chair while he was working on my braces! :p

I opt for ceremic one, which will cost me $4200, inclusive of x-ray, braces, retainers, + monthly consultancy; exclusive of tooth extraction and other misc, if have. A lump sum $1700 will be paid on the day you put on braces. On other visits, you pay $100 per visit until full payment is made.

Always thot that I may need to use smaller tooth brush or floss to clean my teeth & braces after every meal, but Dr said no need, can just brush like normal... izzt so?

Hi Jo,

You need to do flossing definitely
happy.gif

Not too sure if he recommend u mouthrinse but I would advice you to use cos when we wear braces, it is quite difficult to keep our teeth as clean as those that didnt wear a braces.
When you do brushing, do brush at the braces, need not be very hard but gently.

I believed your dentist sure give one or two pages instruction on how to keep your teeth clean and what not to eat rite ?
some eg are apple, never never bite the apple as a whole, whatever thing u eat. u have to cut into small pieces and put into ur mouth
happy.gif

if you wan to eat curry, coffee or tea, do rinse your mouth after that, this is to prevent ur braces from staining
happy.gif

you know we have those elastic band on our tooth, that would change every visit, cos that will turn yellowish when we eat food
happy.gif

You can always monitor yourself, if you realised that your normal toothbrush cant keep your teeth clean, then maybe you could consider buying smaller toothbrush.

Hmm usually orthodontist dun do extraction leh.. they only purely do ortho :p

Hi Jennifer,

I had my pre braces checkup, x-ray & models done by Colin Ong of NTUC Denticare too.

As I'm not a member of NTUC, so I'm holding back my treatment. How much is the deposit har?

When I was there, I don't know what to ask. But I'm very glad that he's a very patient dentist. Sometimes, he even provides me with more info tat I could've think of.

Unlike another dentist recommended by my fren hu juz used watever he thinks is best for me without taking into consideration of my budget nor even bother telling me the cost of braces.

Is it very difficult to get an appointment after office hours with Colin Ong?

Hi Jennifer and Alicia,

Can i know what ntuc policy are u holding? How much to pay per mth for the policy?
I did not have any policy yet so might want to take up the ntuc one and at the same time get the discount for the braces

Hi Jasmine,

I'm not holding to any policy, which's why I'm not a member of NTUC yet (and me also non union card holder).

I'm also working out my budget to see how much per mth for the policy in order to enjoy the discount.

As advised by Dr. Colin, it's best to be a member (either by holding a policy or union card member) before starting the consultation and the x-ray thingy. I oni found out tat oni member has discount after I've visited the clinic.

X-ray+Model etc --> Diff between member & non member is about 10s of dollars as told by Dr. Colin. I duno e exact amt...

Dr Colin sounds gd. Which branch is he from? I am thinking of going to visit him for my yearly dental check up and maybe at the same time can ask him for advise for my braces. Do he only do braces or does he also do normal dental checkup?

So u have not done ur braces yet? But since a diff of $10s doesn't seem to be much of a big diff, y did Dr Colin say its best to be a member??

Hi Jasmine,

Dr. Colin's from Midpoint Orchard branch.
I think he only do braces. Perhaps you may book an appointment with him for braces consultation, which cost $40 + consumables $2.

Dental checkups are handled by other dentist.

There're a few stages to braces treatment.
Braces treatment will cost around $3600 for members and non member close to abt $4000.
X-ray+model is additional cost to the braces treatment itself. This one, member and non member diff is $10s, compared to the treatment itself.

With the x-ray & model done, then he'll know which tooth to extract, put on the braces and utimately start the treatment.

Yup, have done my braces yet. Only had the x-ray & model done. Currently open-ended case under Dr. Colin. Will go back again after I got a policy.

I'm not sure if all dentist include x-ray & model as part of the brace treatment or not....or as an additional cost on top of the treatment itself.

Can I only do the upper row of the teeth? Any idea how long will the braces take for unsightly space between the teeth? Pardon for my limited knowledge in this area. Thanks

Jasmine (alleb),
sorry sorry, haven't been logging in that frequently nowadays.

I was supposed to put on braces many many months ago, but some financial problem cropped up in the family. So had to postpone the plan.

Pei Ling, you can opt to do braces for only one arch. But it also depends.. see your overall bite got problem or not and stuffs i guess.

You should go for a consultation with the orthodontists. They can give you better advices. Consultation at A line dental cost about $20.

After which if you decide to put on braces, it will be offset from the total cost.

The time period for teeths to be straighten is normally between 12-30 months.

For spaces between the teeth should take less than 24 months. Unless its a more complicating case.

ops alexandra (vlanis)! juz saw ur msg...
i'm waiting for my braces consultation on 7/9
i really dunno what will the price be,the dentist who help me extract my wisdom tooth say maybe my case will be quite complicated so she recommend that i dun go to general orthodontist but a specialist

so i'll see if my case is complicated...if it is,i think it's safer to go goverment but if it's not,i'll go private...

anyway i went to extract my 2 wisdom tooth, not pain at all. it's nothing...most of e ppl who extracted their wisdom tooth tell me sooo sooo pain...but i think they are bullshitting...
NOT PAIN!!!so if u r holding back because u think its painful,dun be silly~

HI,
I have been thinking of doing my braces, held back becos of the pain, not from extraction but from the tightening of braces every mth. And i love to eat, so after braces cannot eat as much
sad.gif

Anyways my condition is that I have 2 tiger teeth, on my top line row of teeth.
Like very japanese, i m not consious of it, only sometimes. Most guys tell me they like it, and i look cute.. but girls and galfrens always ask me why I did not fix my teeth. Dunno why the contrast in opinions. My wedding would be next yr, to do it now, would be too late anyways. I am 25yrs old, braces have to be on around 2yrs according to dentist. Anyone with the same cond?

Hi Klutz

My sis had 2 tiger teeth on top line row of teeth, which she extracted via surgery when she had her braces done.

My friend found a dentist who charges only $3.5K for braces to be done. But it's in the west, which is far from my place.

Any recommendation on dentist in AMK/north area? I've done my model etc at NTUC midpoint orchard but I'm a non member, so braces will cost more for me...and seriously can't decide on policy to take up for the sake of being a member.

Another thing, I'm currently looking for job. If I were to have my braces done now, will it be an issue for my future employer? I'm not sure if I need to take leave after putting on braces or not...and advice?

hi klutz

cant help u much out there since ur wedding is just next yr. Actually depends on individuals, some may just take only one yr or slightly more to get it done. Age shld not be a porblem.

As for the pain for the tightening, it doesnt hurt as much, actually i meant it may only hurt for the 1st few days, after that is quite okay.
happy.gif

hi alicia

u can try Smile clinic @ Compass pt or Dental Inn @ Punggol plaza. From what i know, both charge at ard the same price but may be slight higher, shld not be more than 4k depening on the types u r looking for.

would suggest that get ur braces done after u get a job. Though employers shld not discrimate, safer to do that too, can look pretty for interview mah. No, u dont have to take leave after puting on braces.

Hope my ans is of some help to u

Thanks, sweetheart!

I've also heard of people completing their braces in one year. But so far, most of my frens who had braces didn't get it done in a year. >1 yr yet less than 3 years are more common...

Anybody to offer advice, I am in dilemna on which orthodontist to go too! Currently, I have two in mind ie Alfred Cheng and Dr Ho Kar Kaye at Tanglin Shopping Centre, just that the latter is much more costly.

Alfred Cheng rate at $3,800.00 including x-ray, study model whereas Dr Ho rate is $4,500.00 excluding x-ray, study model. But of course, I have heard abt the good reputation of Dr Ho through some friends of mine who are in dental line but they never hear of Dr Alfred Cheng what I know abt Dr Alfred Cheng was from this thread.

I have two children that require to wear braces at the same time therefore I have to consider carefully cos its abt 2k difference!

Hi Alicia, was at smile clinique..going to pay deposit on nx mth already. so i really nid to find out e disadvantages..if not ..pay so much ..end up not nice...will b really waste of money. they charge me like 4700. its a package..n they said the price they charge is v cheap compared to other clinic. n also i cant find e disadvantages of damon braces ...all they provide were e advantages.

staruiz

New Member
same here too.
but they used to charge 4500 (when I called them up near mid Sep) Not sure why they increase the price.
Only disadvantage that I found online is the shifting of the wire.
My friend told me that after Damon 2, my teeth may be very loose...which is the one of the things that holds me back from the treatment (in fact I had a checkup and the dentist did told me that after 6 months, my teeth will be very loose so easy to extract any teeth...urm...not sure if my teeth will stay that way (as loosely) at the end of the treatment or not...was too taken aback to ask more)

mintb3rry

har...den how?!?! i wan to get it done..my teeth is getting uglier..hahaha...increasing e price as in mayb they changed to damon 3? or 4500 is after discounted if u pay in full amt. but it seems really good bcox the person showed me e pictures of the patients putting damon braces. after four mths ...e results really amazing.. but i still think its a bit weird without any extraction. oh gosh..what should i do?

Hi all,

It's been some time since I've logged into this thread.

I'm currently wearing damon braces and my cousin has his damon braces removed more than half a year ago...in addition, a good fren of mine is also wearing damon braces...

Ok, wat I'm trying to say is this: there are some negative feedback on damon system and personally, I dun support them. why? Cuz, this is my 2nd time wearing braces! I spent $4k when I 1st started putting braces and I chose one of the most ex system in the clinic tat claimed by dentist was one of the best, then why did my teeth still protrude despite wearing retainers?

It really lies in the skills of the dentists. At present, I'm very happy with the results that damon system is giving me. I see good results so if anyone were to ask me what to recommend, I'll stick to damon system.

And by the way, I only pay $2300 for my braces this time round and so did my cousin and my fren...and they had a bad case of unaligned, protruding set of teeth.

My 2 cents worth of opinion

staruiz

New Member
Hi Gwyneth, which clinic did you went? Is it because it's your 2nd time wearing the braces which is why you only paid $2300?

kitji

New Member
Hi Alicia,

Nope. It doesn't cost me less because this is my 2nd time wearing it. In fact, my current dentist did not believe that I wore braces before cuz my teeth's alignment was bad.

Anyway, my lst experience wearing braces was like 5-6 years ago and because of the frustrating results I had with my teeth's alignment, I went to Ubi Clinic and their braces package starts from $2300 onwards. The dentist would share with you the different packages his clinic has and you decide.

If you like the contact and address, kindly email me at [email protected]

Hope this info helps

I am with Dr Colin Ong of NTUC MidPoint Orchard. Have been on braces for a year already... so far so good... he told me abt going for maxillofacial surgery also, and has arranged for me to consult Dr Sylvia at Alexandra Hospital... has anyone done this kind of surgery before???

staruiz

what is maxillofacial surgery? is it the jaw surgery? is it easy to get appointment on weekends or during weekday after work?

nookeew

New Member
yeah, it's jaw surgery... to correct my gummy smile... =/

He doesn't do evening consultation... the latest i think is 5.30pm or 6pm. Sat is half-day, and to book a sat slot, one month advanced booking is usually required. That works fine actually cos most of us on braces are on monthly consultation frequency. I go only on Sat and i can usually get a Sat slot for the next month. However, if u miss that, u will have to wait another month.

Thanks for the info!
So far, none of my friends has done maxillofacial surgery. One of my friends was asked to do it, but she turned it down.

ceramic braces... are they the transparent ones?? i have those for my upper teeth only... cost $300 more... actually now a bit regret spending that money... although the braces are transparent, there's still the conspicuous metal wire that goes thru' those braces, so the cosmetic effect is not really that great...

Anyone can advise how much it costs for normal braces for upper row of teeth? I have only one protruding tooth in front and have been thinking of making it straight...Thanks.

yup, they are the transparent ones. i can opt for that for both upper and lower teeth right? anw, where did you go for your dental? i'm trying to look for one which is good and cheap =]

nookeew

New Member
hi pamela, yupz, can have the transparent ones for both upper and lower teeth... but that'll set u back by an additonal $600...

i'm with Dr Colin Ong of NTUC Denticare at Midpoint Orchard... i think he's quite good... friendly and patient, and gentle in his treatment... i'm an Income insurance policy holder so i've some discount at the clinic... for myself, i paid a $1K deposit when i first put on the braces and an additional $300 for that one set of the transparent braces... subequent consultation (4 to 6 weeks interval) is $132... total cost will run up to abt $3.5K... oh, one inconvenient thing is that he doesn't do evening consultation, as i've mentioned in a previous posting...

there're several postings here with the prices at different clinics... it's v informative to go thru' them...

welcoming u to the metal-mouth society in advance!... haha...
