I have an EIGHSTAR Round Brilliant at 0.815 carat, Colour E, Clarity VS-1. It comes with GIA Cert + Laser Inscription of "EIGHSTAR SERIAL NUMBERS".

The setting is in a classic tiffany style 6 prong ring (silver).

The ring is not the expensive one, but the diamond is.

Cost price of the diamond is at S$11k directly purchased from Eight Star. This is high quality diamond cut and it is subjectively known to be better than Gabriel or Lazare diamonds.

Hi,
Came across this forum and would like to share my 2 cents worth. If u r planning to make a diamond purchase at D'meyson, i suggest u go for those wif GIA certs (not even IGI certs).

Recently i almost bought a diamond ring (row of 7 diamonds, each abt 10pts). Its specified as hearts & arrows F color, SIG certified. however when i make a comparison with my other pieces of jewelrey, I realised what they specified as F is actually G color. At first i tot it could be due to their color of the lighting in the showroom, but when they let me view under white light, the difference in color was even more obvious.

i suggest to be more cautious abt SIG certification, this is the gemology arm of meyson, but i'm not sure how well-known or stringent they grade their stones. Labs like GIA & AGS are very strict, if a color is a in-between, they wud usually certify it as the lower color grade.

Although hears & arrows is gd cut, but the tint of yellow is visible under white/normal light, more so for the bigger stones. Since we are spending so much on the purchase, its only right that we are paying for real gd value.

Someone is offering $1.2k for a "san fen" (in chinese) diamond pendent. As it was made in the past, I have no idea of its clarity. But it looks white, though lacks lusture.

1) Does san fen means 0.3 carat?
2) is it considered expensive?

Hi claire tay,

may i know where do you get this offer? it's very unbelievable for a 3.2 carat diamond ring to cost only $900. i don't think you could get such a price even if it is I colour.

Hi all, I'm in Hong Kong right now. I am wondering if it will be cheaper to get my diamond ring here instead of getting it from Singapore? ANy suggestions? Thanks

Singapore is a good Place to buy jewellery. this is coz the law here is rather strict. Besides, in Singapore, there is CASE (consumer's association) where they would seek redress on your behalf, if u have any greviences eg. over-paying for somethin u bought. if the company is registered LOCALLY, they would have to give u a full refund if found guilty. provided they misrepresented what is written on the receipt/invoice which thay claim the product to be. eg.4Cs. therefore, if they wrote, f colour, vvs1 and it was found not to be the case, u can get a refund.

in woo83fy_woo83fy's case, the diamonds is definately over priced based of the specs. And of cos, it depends on the setting. Is there lots of side diamonds in the design of the ring? is it handmade or patented? this is a few points that may be worth considering.

hi sindy,

my point of view is if you want just a 0.3, go for a better colour and compromise on clarity. since i think normal people (i mean non-experts) won't be able to differentiate a VS and VVS diamond from naked eye..

if you can lower your criteria to VS, perhaps some places like SK, you can find one less than $1K

my 2 cents worth..happy searching

Hi Sindy,

Will be quite difficult to get a 0.3 Ct diamond for less than 1K if you want it to be certified according to your specs. I'm assuming you are looking for GIA/AGS/HRD certified diamonds.

To lower the cost of the diamond, you could go for the following specs:

1) Color: F-H
2) Cut: VG
3) Clarity: SI1-SI2

For your information, the naked eye cannot see the inclusions up to SI grade for diamonds less than 1 ct in size.

Following prices from www.bluenile.com (loose diamonds).

1) 0.3ct GIA certified diamond with cut VG, Color F and clarity SI2 is selling for USD 354 to USD 398.

2) 0.3ct GIA certified diamond with cut VG, Color F and clarity VS2 is selling for USD 531 to USD 625.

3) 0.3ct GIA certified diamond with cut VG, Color G and clarity VVS2 is selling for USD 624 to USD 678.

I've never bought from bluenile but it seems to be a pretty reliable source. They are selling real diamonds as most of the diamonds they sell are GIA certified.

Now they have shipping to Singapore option.

The diamond that sparkles most will be a GIA graded diamond with color D, Clarity IF or FL, Cut, Symmetry & Polish all excellent.

try the Soo Kee Brilliant Rose, my good friend got hers as her proposal ring at 0.42ct, F color, VVS clarity. Saw her ring sparkles like at Girrafe restaurant last night....wow. It looks bigger than a 0.42ct too...think her hubby pay no more than 6K for it...

hi,

i did a bit of research on diamond rings..
as I am more keen to buy a ring from international brands as the cut is much better than the local ones, i ve shortlisted laza** and gabriel**

A 0.53 f vs1 gab* diamond costs $9k+ while a laz* one costs $7k+ for similar size, colour and clarity.. as u can negotiate for a better deal at larry's..you can get the diamond at $6k+ if u succeed in bargaining
happy.gif

in terms of sparkle and brilliance, the sparkles of gab* is better due to the short flashes..but personally i think it is not worth paying $2k+ for this..nonetheless, the gab* is handcut thus for those who prefers something really different can consider gab*

my HTB bought me a 0.6 E VS1 lazare for $7K+...happy*happy*

huh, after 1-2 weeks of wearing, not washing it. most will looks the same.

for IF to SI1 (if the flaw is not on the table), u cant see with nake eye...

for color, only the jewelley shop light can see color, normal day light = amost the same

for cut = if you dont wash the diamond for weeks, u will not notice the cut much...it get blur then cant see cut much.

for size = go for a bigger one... try meyson - 1.5ct at less than 10k.... sure look better than 0.5ct with a better cut or color...

try look for irean lim, very helpful - at parkway....

Does anyone know what is "commercial grade" diamond? I am looking at a pair of earrings. The sales staff said it was commercial grade diamonds. Someone told me for a pair of earrings it doesn't really matter. Any thoughts?

Normally Branded and Retail Stores are to make money, just how much money can they make from the sale. Of course if you go branded, expect the price to go branded as well.

The Cut, Clarity, weight and color, the better they are, the price will be much higher and alot of difference. Just remember any ring above $1k ask for certification.

Code, i think you overpay, I have checked with one of my friend who specialized in this. You getting from a branded store is it?

wat is most important in selecting a diamond? cut? clarity? colour? can someone tell me which is most important den follow down.. tia

kiddyu15

Amos >> I vaguely remember seeing this website on other forums but I think the more common ones are vivodiamonds, bluenile and whiteflash.. =) Online diamonds are priced more reasonably than retail shops like LH/SK because they actually infalte their diamonds by around 70% (read from some other forums)

BTW, to me, the cut is also the most important but u have to keep in mind that the depth and other stats of the diamond also affects the brilliance of the diamond.. =)

Ultimately, I think first u need to think of budget then from there you can place the others in ranking of importance like the carat size, the brand name, the cut, the colour, the certificate etc.. But if ur budget is very high or unlimited then of course u can look at the other factors first, ignoring budget.. =)

Amos >> I got a fren who got his diamond from whiteflash and set it @ Josi Gems (Park Mall)..

I've also been to a place called Yuen Tung (Wah Kee) Gems & Jewellery @ Tiong Bahru to look see.. They do setting and also sell wholesale diamonds that are GIA certified.. There is another forum where pple have talked abt them.. U can have a look..
