Advice on ANG POW BOX

Hi AshLady,

I wrapped my lid and box separately coz I want to keep my whole box intact after the wedding. If u wrap them together, you will have to rip the whole thing apart to get the angpows out, unless u make another outlet somewhere else to take them out easily.

Hi Huiz,
yes, i agree with you..that means i have to make 2 boxes coz my church & dinner on separate days. Sigh... do u have issue with security? My mum thinks it's not safe to just secure with ribbons in case the ribbon falls off. I realised it is not easy to wrap boxes...how do u wrap it such that it doesnt have unslightly folds at the sides?

Hi Ashlady,

I don't think security will be an issue for me coz I would have quite a few helpers at the recep table. And since I there is a safe in the hotel room, I guess things should turn out well

I used cloth to wrap my entire box. They are softer and drapes well around the corners.

hi Huiz,
My FH also doesnt think security is an issue..*headache* hee...Oh, u use cloth? May i know what kind of cloth and where u buy from? Sounds like a good idea coz the nice paper i tried to use was hard and creases easily once it's folded. The box u made is amazing!

U actually made the bears urself? ....i'm impressed! hee..

Hi Ashlady,

Well, I believe that as long as there are people jaga-ing the table and there is a safe safe in the hotel room, it should be fine.

I used this light yellow brocade cloth I got for $4/m from Arab Street (this messy messy shop further down the same side of this shop that sells rattan products) for the lid and the fake stairways. The rest of the box is wrapped with cream coloured satin. This can be easily found in any shops along Arab Street for not more than $2/m.

Hehe, thanks for the compliments

Yah, I made the whole box from scratch, even the teddies. I crochet them and then made clothes for them. The bride's gown is much easier. Had a hard time trying to find the coat and trousers pattern template for the groom

Hi Ladies

For those who may be interested, here is my ang bao box, selling it off since wedding over *wink*

a) The ribbon is tied below the box, it's not ez to be flipped open...just get 1 jie mei to be in charge of the box, everything Should be okay.

b) The bear's dress and all flowers shown are all handmade so this is the only one in the market.. ;p

c) As for the box colour you can easily get a nice wrapper which is rather cheap to wrap the box and cover, I choose the simple clean way to match the bears, so used the original box colour.

Cost : SGD 25

As I will be overseas from tomorrow, I will reply any interested party when I get back on Saturday. Do leave your email addie here.

For those who DIY Ang Pow box,

Do u gers use copier paper box?
How to cut the slit? use extra big pen knife? LOL
Where to buy materials to decor? Spotlight or Arab Street. Which is cheaper?

purple rain,
I use copier paper box. As for the slit, draw the hole with pencil first then cut with pen knife. Cut the slit slightly wider, if nt on that day, the ang pows will be jammed at the opening. Materials from Arab Street cheaper. Or you can ask leftover materials from your bridal shop. I got my lace from my bridal shop

Hi Purplerain

I used copier paper box too. I also cut the slit using penknife. Recommend u go Arab Street. Much much cheaper and variety is wider. I once bought a meter of organza for $12/m at SL but found the same thing of the same quality at AS for only $2.50/m!

Hi Emily,

I wrapped my A4 copier box with some white paper (to cover the prints on the box) and then finally I wrapped it with cream coloured satin.

Hi breezie,

U mean the ribbons at the 2 corners of the lid?

What I did was to paste the ribbon around the lid and then tie up the extra length at the 2 corners into 2 big bows

Oh now I get what u mean Breezie. I used a can of spray glue to stick the cloth and ribbons to the box. This is the best I can get to make them stick flatly and smoothly. Do not ever use the normal bottles of liquid glue as the amount spreaded over the surface would not be consistent, thus either leaving too much glue mark or cause the cloth to be not well stuck.

Hi

Is ang pow box only used for wedding dinner, can it be use on ROM solemnisation???? :p
& where can i get one, huh??

huiz

New Member
Hi Juwen,

Ang pow boxes are usually used during the wedding dinner. I had personally not seen any during ROMs. Unless your ROM doubles up as a wedding reception then I suppose it can be used then too
happy.gif

As for where u can get one, I think u can look at Kalms. The other alternative is of course to make one yourself. It can be rather easy

Ladies, dun mind me, but I heard ang pao box should come with a lock? True a not? But with jiemei's "guarding" it, should be ok yeh?

I was thinking of diying ang pao box n ring pillow!

huiz

New Member
Hi serendipity,

I did not have a lock on mine coz it was guarded all the time. What I did was to send the box up to the hotel room once the dinner started, empty out the angpows into the safe and locked it there for the night.

DIY-ing is really fun! I am planning to make a ring pillow for my friend too

hi ladies,
anyone has any idea how to secure the bears onto the box? someone suggested using map pins previously, but wldn't the pin head be seen? Thanks loads!!

Hi mel, what I did for my friends' ones was to buy velcro tapes that u can stick to the bears and box. I bought mine from Spotlight and it comes in one strip. The fur doesn't peel off (at least when I tested it didn't =P) and the paper might get torn a lil but it's only paper =)
