Forgot to add, I'm using bigger rims and tyres from the prev car. So, petrol consumption should be higher plus its a family car driven by a few members with different driving styles.

And yet the Vios achieve around 14km per litre.

Its has only a 42 litre tank unlike most bigger cars with 45 litre cos it doesn't a big tank.

14 to 16km per litre is actually very very good compared to more models. Mileage would be more if you avoid peak hours in town

Hi,
I'm planning to buy my first car.
Still can't decide which to buy - Mitsubishi Lancer or Toyota Altis? Is there any expert here to give me advice in terms of fuel consumption & reliability?

Thanks much.

Few months back, CarTimes offering a low-time interest rate of 2.5%. Quite worth it...

We bought our Subaru Impreza at only $51K (Auto)..

Car sharing based on hours if i m not wrong which i don't really like. It depends on usage. I would prefer to rent a car instead without time restriction but of course on the daily basis. Pm me if you want to discuss.

hi steven,

Vios is quite famous for relatively good FC (13 - 15)

when FC is high, it could be due to a few factors and sometimes its the way the person drives.

1) Do you always zua (step on accelerator)?
2) Do you always travel on non highway that has alot of stop & travel?
3) Is your aircon switched on at a very cold temperature when you are driving?
4) Do you switch on your aircon even though your car is stationery for like more than 5 mins for example?

Hi Steven, I have a auto vios & full tank can go up to 550km. And this is considering sometimes I accelerate when moving from traffic light. Cos Vios no power so gotta step very hard then will move faster...

hi, storeberry (storeberry)
, i had tried many way still no much different. i step on acceleration no acess 2000 rpm i alway retain at below 90km went on expressway , way go down slop i never step , and jz let it roll down .but not much different if i step hard on the accelerate as what you said , i go can go up to 297 or 300km only that why i keep looking for the solution to solve and find out what going wrong. my vios got power to move on traffic light , i can rech 80km 0n 5 sec . only the problem is i realize if i normal drive to test for checking the fuel consumption , then i relize why mine so high consumption ..HEADACH. your also auto but better than mine can go up too 500 plus .

hi steven,

other little tips..

1) use W30 fully synthetic oil and it will give u better FC.

2)try not to rev above 3k if possible

3) the difference between manual and auto shouldn't be that much, the most 2km/l or 3km/l difference but it's hard to compare like this since both driving patterns are totally different

4) cruise as often as you can, meaning if u see red light coming, then lift off the gas pedal and cruise to a stop instead of keeping your foot on the pedal then braking hard nearer to the red light.

5) inflate yr tyres higher than the recommended pressure. (u can try to pump at 240 front at 230 back)

6) check yr tyre pressure at least once every 2 wks.

7) u can open your windows to drive, maybe at nite. aircon saps at least 10% of yr engine power

8) don't keep junk in yr boot.

9) maintain at 80 to 90km/h on the middle or left lane.

hi steven,

maybe you shouldn't use the bars as a guide as all. just pump till full or till the first click... then reset the odometer... then drive till u need to pump again..

then take the dist travelled divide by the liters pumped.

do you always wait for people with engine on?? impossible for vios FC to be so bad. if your mechanic keeps telling you same, try 2nd opinion, drive as per normal. An auto car FC cant be tat bad. Is any servicing due to be done?

yap, it true.. im still trying , however ' 37 litre is around 310 km if expressway can only up to 360km . i had done al the servicing , change air filler and oil . i jz curious what going on to my vios . anyway i try (minssy) method first . i going to pump petrol within this few day . so i hope can hear more vios drivers opinion ...thanks in advance

oh ya, but it would be surprising if the fuel consumption calculation 'device' or 'sensor' is faulty, which could mean the input values are incorrect or some errors..

i calculate based on 'manual' method, meaning pump till full, and check mileage when fuel empty lights up.. make sure do this for at least 3 consistent tanks, and pump yourself, stop when nozzle trip and dont top anymore, standardize the 'input' variants so you can find out what went wrong.. good luck..

Ok I'm going back to college soon and I need a new car. I really don't know all that much about cars so I figured I'd ask your guy's opinion.

The criteria I have is basically good mileage (near 30 hwy), low insurance rates, and preferably automatic transmission, but I'd learn manual if I had to.

Right now I'm looking at Jettas, but I'm not sure...

Anyways, what do NT car heads suggest?

VW expensive to repair in long run
Hyundai is a good bet. The Avante drives well, like a continental car, not springy like toyotas
