i will be getting married next year in dec. indeed its still a long way to go but i think theres much preparation to do in terms of especially financing. we're both in our preparation though. we both still sourcing out for affordable wedding packages and such. any ideas to share?

you should start listing out what is your/your spouse requirement on the banquet venue, e.g, pillarless?, non-sharing ballroom foyer? high ceiling? 4star? 5 star? acessibility? and the range of pricing you want.
Go for more wedding shows and look around what they are offering, if you chose a hot date, make sure you ask the hotels when they will be releasing the pricing as usually the start of the release most hot date will be taken.
