Hi all,

I'm new, so interesting to read this thread. My weight is fine but I want to exercsie for health reason. Realised that exercising makes me stronger and I don't fall sick as frequently as before. But recently, discovered that I seemed to have put on weight instead. My pants are a little tighter and I weigh 2kg more. My diet is still the same as before, I mean I don't go on a specific diet since I am not out to lose weight. Anyone has any idea why do I seem to have put on weight? I do weights twice a week, swim and do yoga once a week. My intention is to not fall sick so easily, not put on or lost weight. Any suggestions?

Smartypants. i suspect its your body metabolism slowing down. Exercise is very important, but our nutritional intake has to be balance too. once we do not have a balance diet, our body will not function as well..

Hi Supaida,

Does that mean I should watch my diet? What should I take to boost my metabolism then? Should I increase protein or carb intake? Sorry, I am very bad where nutrition is concern, don't know how or what food is better.

u amy like to reduce carbo and take more good protein instead.. but to boost metabolism, one natural way that i can think of is to take more meals but in small portion.
DO NOT SKIP MEALS (esp breakfast) as it will SLOW DOWN METABOLISM

i use to take just lunch and skip breakfast and dinner but lunch i eat jump portion of rice.. in the end no weight loss at all..

eat in moderation.

remember to drink lots of plain water a day too!

i am takin herbalife supplment as well to manage and maintain now..

hope these infor helps

Choose honey over sugar anytime, although honey itself is sweet. but at least there's some plus ingredients from honey.

go for 6 small meals a day with regular meal timing & interval.

BMI is a guage for people who dont train.

Smartypants, your pants get tighter? did you do too much abs/oblique training that make you have too much muscle growth?
for my clients, they put on weight but find their pants looser. when trained correctly, you will gain muscle & bone mass while losing fat mass.

i'm glad this forum is pro-fitness than pro-mrp/fad diet.

i think hip to waist measurement is better than BMI.

no matter how hard i train, my weight will never drop..and most likely is my bone mass according to my friend who consult her trainer.

hi kevin
wat is bone mass? why it increase as we increase our physical activity?

smartypants,
i drink coffee black, no sugar.
if i wan a bit of sweetness, I go for 1/2 packet of equal- artifical sweetener.

soft drinks is a NO NO.

When we do resistant training such as gym/weights training, we are stressing our bodies. Thus, our bone are able to absorb nutrient better, so we will have higher bone density (but it will remain at the same size after puberty stage), so our bone mass will be higher.

This is good because it (resistant training) can delay osteoporosis.
A fact: our bones can only absorb 25% of the calcium we take in everyday, assuming we don't workout. The rest are flushed out as waste.

If you weight train, you can have an increase in weight but a smaller waistline. As proved by 1 of my client, he gained 3kg in 2 months but lose 2 inches off his waist.

All my other clients experiences inches loss, but weight result may be different. (depending on total fat and muscle gain/loss)

hi kevin
thanks for reply to my question,
i notice that my weight increase ever since i tried weight lifting to train my arms cos i have a bigger lower body (hips), so trying to make my shoulder broader to "balance" up.

i was very upset that my weight increase from 47 to 50kg now...

but the good thing is my waist still remain the same.

Nice, you know which is the smaller part to train and make yourself more proportional looking. :D

Be glad that even weight increases, waist is still the same. What you can try is exercises which attack fat or something.

eg: Combination of weights training in 1 set.

its not fats that is accumulated at my hip area, its because i have large hip bones..its a genes thing that we have "protuding hip"

I'll go for honey in coffee then. can't take coffee 'kosong', will get gastric.

Kevin, may be I did too much crunches yah; once I hit 70 at one goal. hee, hee, thought it will flatten stomach?

hi smartypants

if i am not wrong, too much crunches doesnt help in flatten stomach if there is too much fats in our body.

crunches help to make the musscels more firm only...

http://lipsified.blogspot.com/2007/03/my-guide-to-fat-loss.html

Spot reduction
There is no spot reduction. By doing more sit ups will not make your tummy smaller. Anyway, sit up doesn’t really train your abs. Crunch (when done properly) does. By strengthening your abs without losing your fat, get ready to see an increase in your waistline. Seriously!

I am quite well trained, but i get fatigue with 15 rep of good crunches. hhaha
70 is too much. i guess you are not doing it really correctly.

Hi,
Anyone interested in buying over my gym membership at Planet fitness - Parkway parade branch? It is a very spacious gym with good facilities and classes. Have to sell it because of some personal reasons. Please pm me if interested! Thanks!

Indeed too much crunches does not help in flatten stomach if there is too much fats in our body. Also if you don't breathe properly, it will make your tummy hard. The technique for crunch is when you lift up your upper body, you must exhale to release all the oxygen from you tummy.

My friend who does yoga to lose tummy fat ends up making her tummy hard and bulky. Her inhalation and exhalation must have been reserved.

Agree with linababy, actually exercise shld only be a supplement to a weight loss prog and not the one to lose weight..invest in a very safe and effective weight losss program so that you will get a healthy and beautiful body. at the same time you can also manage chronic diseases much better. There's nothing to lose!
