michelle: yup mandarin orchard = meritus mandarin. Hope meritus mandarin goes well with you. The hotel is quite nice and quite value for money given the location. I have signed up with them too.

Yve: I was afraid that Mar in TW will be cold and foggy hence I chose April. But realised many couples going to TW in Mar for PS.

yyling: I've visited both regent and fullerton before. Both are great hotels. I would prefer fullerton though but my htb doesn't like the idea of downward staircase. The perks that Fullerton offer seems quite good too. Location isn't that bad as well. As for regent, I thought the coordinators are very approachable and friendly and the themes are really fantastic. However, location may be of problem for your guests who don't drive.

yve: i took mine in march.. but they are all dropping..would advise u to go in feb instead to c full bloom

michelle: yup.. we had our ps already.. u are from which bridal shop? mine is by bb.. we reach taiwan..day 2 choose gown, day 3 shoooting le...
they din plan the itinerary for u?

@michelle, mine is a local BS but they helped us liase with a PG in Taiwan they used.

My friend held it at Mandarin Oriental for abt 60++ tables.

BTW Merry Christmas Everyone!

@muilaman: just went to take a peek at the ballroom just now.. it's not bad, but i would prefer a longer march-in.. not sure if arrangements can be made..
supposedly is to march in the 'breadth', wonder if its possible to march in the 'length' instead.. hee
time to arrange an appt with the coordinator! haha
if its convenient, mind sharing who is your coordinator & how's the package like? [email protected] thanks!

@sze sze: i'm from bb too! i called them up to book the photoshoot day & they just give me a date, that's it. nothing else from them.. they told me dont have to go down, just "book" through the phone.. oh no... that shouldnt be the case??

@chinzilla: saw mandarin oriental's ballroom, doesnt look like it can accomodate so many! i've emailed them too anyways.. thanks =D

muilaman

michelle: I think you can talk to the coordinator. I am sure it can be arranged since the ballroom is quite big. My coordinator is Marie. As for the package, it's pretty standard. You may want to call them up and ask for the package? Don't worry, she is quite nice to talk to. Enjoy your hotel search. Hehe.

Chinzilla: I thought Marina Oriental grand ballroom only has 42 tables max?

Hi all, this is the first time i'm visiting the forum

My SO and myself are intending to hold our wedding in Jun 2012, was just thinking if it is too early to source for the location cuz was intending to do a wedding lunch @ conrad..

still haven't decide on the date as we'll only be going to the master in Jan..

any advice?

Hi Katherine

I thought I was early too and I'm planning for Sept! But there're hotels already open for booking for 2012, and most hotels will release their 2012 packages in Jan. So it seems like a good time to go around to view ballrooms and ask questions, see if it fits within your budget.

hi michelle & muilaman,

here's what i got from mandarin oriental via email a few weeks ago:
Please find the capacity of our various function venues as follows:

- The Oriental Ballroom: minimum requirement for Lunch is 25 tables; Dinner is 35 tables and Maximum Capacity 40 tables

- Atrium Suites (Lunch and Dinner): Minimum requirement 15 tables and Maximum Capacity 18 tables

- Garden Suite (Lunch and Dinner): Minimum requirement 10 tables and Maximum Capacity 13 tables

but anyway. I think michelle you might already have gotten your ans from mandarin oriental.

@muilaman: i hope so, just that HTB thinks if that way, the sides(eg: walls) will look wierd/ugly cos the setup is meant for 'breadth' march-in, not 'length.. Gowri is the one who replied me, but there's no reply from them since 23-Dec.. guess it's the holiday mood.. haha

@katherine: Hi Katherine! it's never too early to source for location/do planning! we started our search early this month for our wedding in march 2012, thought its early but apparently it's not.. cos the hotel we wanted is already occupied on that day.. so i think its good to start early to avoid disappointed.. ;)
have fun!

@chocolatebasket: Hi, thanks for the information! i've just emailed Mandarin Oriental yesterday, so have not get any reply yet.. from the information you provided, i think Mandarin Oriental is out for us too =(

by the way.. all BTBs, anyone plan to engage wedding singers/band during the AD?

Sorry if i caused any confusion! my bad! went to ask my friend. the table numbers ran into 60+ coz of the unlucky numbers that were ommitted . =S paiseh!

was thinking of live band but pretty expensive. =( we shld be getting friends to sing hee thot it might be abit more participative.

Michelle, I'm thinking of live band or instrumental, but depends on my budget. Wanted to get some friends to do it but the hotels won't provide the sound system.

i wanted live band too but after considering all the costs, seems quite expensive. so most probably may not want it in the end. rather spend the $$ on the house or something. haa.

michelle: oic. never heard of Gowri before. Ya, i guess it's holiday mood for them now.

Katherine: it's never too early to start planning. time passes very fast.

to all: do you know where I can get black gloves and armlets? been searching but can't seem to find. any idea?

@yyilingg serious?? in that case, i better go see a master soon to fix on a date and start visiting the hotels.

@michelle the date u want is already booked?? wow! that's fast! i'm really clueless on what to look out for.

@muilaman ya, i know.. especially when you tend to be busy at work, think the time pass even faster..

does any of you gals have a checklist or guideline on what to check on when choosing your wedding venue?

@chinzilla: ooh.. no wonder.. its ok! ;) didn't come across of the wedding i've attended with unlucky numbers omitted..
yes, its quite expensive..its like $1200 for 2sets? if only my friends are so 'on'.. it'll be fun! haha

@magal & yyiling: have you guys researched on any good ones? i've only know 'lovemeknot', 'alittledream' and 'yourstruly'

@shanna: that's what i thought so too! but HTB kinda like it, cos it will kinda create a more romantic atmosphere? hehee

i came across this guy's youtube videos..
http://www.youtube.com/user/khairi70#p/u/0/rvl5D8VxSeE something different.. he is more engaging & can 'entertain' the guests too.. but HTB dont like it, says its so 'phillipino/amigo-style' no offence..

what do you all think?

@muilaman: you can try far east? was there just now & saw some white/cream gloves worn til around elbow? not sure if there's black ones.. but can check it out..

@nefariouskat: eh.. you change your nick? haha yea, we wanted Orchard Hotel but BOTH ballrooms are taken up on that day.. tsk tsk.. i think its good to first have a rough idea of how many tables you need, it will narrow down the search alot. then, go for site recce!
for me, i dont want march-in that are too short, how many projectors/screen provided, who is the chef/caterer, what is in their menu (is it worth the price), any complimentary stay for helpers, 1 server to how many tables, free flow of beer, etc.. i'm so picky! haah

nefariouskat, for me ballroom should be well proportioned and preferably pillarless (else headache on who to place at the blocked tables too). I'm not so particular about high ceiling or march in length. For perks, you can check how much alcohol is provided (quite standard to have 1 bottle a table and one barrel of beer at least), carpark coupons and invites, and whether there's corkage waiver. If you're doing solemnisation on the same day, see if the hotel can provide a venue for you to do so FOC.
happy.gif

Michelle, I haven't started in depth research yet. So far only know of alittledream and yourstruly. Hope to get one that can do mostly Chinese songs to cater to HTB's side. I've seen those videos before, think it's a good idea if you have sporting and spontaneous guests.

hi all...

talking abt live band... we did tot abt it b4..
tat time went grand park city hall wedding show and they have a band there..
we tot the atmosphere was real good with the band..
but ya it would be another cost to it..
so gotta see if got the budget..

shannat

julia: i think for GPCH, need to see how many tables u hv, cos previously when i went for site recce there, the coordinator told me, for the no. of tables im having, definately cant squeeze in a live band due to the small ballroom.

muilaman

Member
michelle: thanks for the recommendation. I guess all brides are picky in their own way. haha. so you are not the only one.

i think as for live band, it depends on how many pieces of band you girls would like to have. If just 3 pc, I think should be able to accomodate. But if its 5 to 7pc, then with a small ballroom, it will be difficult I suppose.

@Michelle ya, change my nick :p wow! so many things to consider?? when i look through the different packages the hotels offer, i only look at things like bridal suite, day use room, any FOC beer/wine and corkage waiver. guess i gotta do more checking. gotta save save save, cut cost cut cost cut cost :p

@yyiling ya, i also prefer pillarless.. guess not many hotels offer that rite? yup, intending to do my solemnisation on the same day. those that u came across, do they usually offer the solemnisation venue FOC?

muilaman

Member
nefariouskat: I think you can ask for foc function room for your solemnisation from your coordinator. They typically would not charge if you are holding your banquet in the hotel as well so long as there are available function rooms. I got mine foc. hee. but get them to put down in black and white in the contract.

nefariouskat

New Member
@mUiLaMaN oh really?? that's good to know!
happy.gif
but i'm only intending to hold a wedding lunch, would they be that generous? guess if it is a wedding lunch, it will be easier to get a venue right?

have any of u gals approached a bridal shop merely for the gown? i don't intend to do PS and am intending to use my own hairstylist, MUA, VG and PG.

yyiling

nefariouskat, as muilaman says, the function rms should generally be FOC. Some venues have more 'exotic' offerings like Sheraton's waterfall area and they'll have a cost for that. So far the hotels I've been to have function rms that can seat between 30 to 80pax for solemnization.

For pillarless ballrooms there're quite a few depending on how many tables you have and ur budget. For under 30 tables there are venues like grand park city hall or four seasons (higher budget). For more tables there's pan pac, oriental, MM, and more... Btw, I did a table of selected hotel pricing and perks, if it would be helpful I can email you?

yyiling

Oops, just saw that you were planning for a lunch. My list isn't so usefuln then since it shows dinner packages. Think they will provide solemnisation venue for lunch, just that perks might be lesser for bridal suite stays etc.

nefariouskat

New Member
yyiling, thanks for your offer! wanted lunch cuz i always see my friends who are holding dinner, so tired by the end of the day.. by holding lunch, i can at least have a good nite rest and be prepared to fly off to somewhere the next morning! :p

guess i would have to source ard myself and visit all the different hotels to find the one that best suits my requirement ba. Wouldn't be having a lot of tables.. 16max i guess?

muilaman

Member
nefariouskat: i guess it depends on individual preference for either lunch or dinner ba. hee. for me, I prefer dinner cos I feel that lunch is a very solemn affair and may be a bit rush cos the events happen one after another, no break. some parents may not like the idea of lunch too. but i guess its all personal choices and glad that you have made a choice too. hehe. you can consider mandarin court at meritus mandarin since the ballroom can accommodate up to 22 tables or something.

yyiling

New Member
nefariouskat, lunch would mean that the morning is more rushed, but you can fully enjoy the bridal suite after that! With 16 tables maybe you can consider Regent's Tanglin room? They have really nice themes, though the location is slightly far from MRT.

nefariouskat

New Member
@mUiLaMaN was thinking can hold the tea ceremony at the hotel after solemnisation, maybe it wouldn't be that rushed? my parents are ok with lunch actually.. in fact even if it's juz solemnisation, they are also ok with it
happy.gif
ok! will put meritus mandarin as one of the options!

@yyiling ya!! actually i m more looking forward to the bridal suite than the banquet.. as least for now :p ya, regent quite far from MRT, that's a factor i gotta consider cuz my cousin held his wedding at botanical gardens the other time and my aunts were like telling me to find an acessible location when i get married -.-

@yyiling: i think most of them should be able to do chinese songs, just gotta let them know your preferred song list. i kind of like that idea, guests to be more participative, etc.. not those normal come-give angbao-eat-take grp photo kind of dinner.. but HTB is sooo against it.. oh well..

@muilaman: you're welcome =)) 3pc is definitely more than enough, 5-7pc is like their concert & focus will not be on us already! haah..
can get function rooms for ROM FOC? woah, i should try to negotiate for that too!

@nefariouskat: yeah man, i didnt think much abt it too until we really start planning, etc.. cos every bride wanna have their ideal wedding and have the best of everything, that's why so many considerations.. haha

i'm planning to go 'ala-carte' on bridal too.. just wanna rent their gown & get our own MUA, VG/PG, etc.. but have not started on the search.. will share if i've any info.. ;)

nefariouskat

New Member
@Michelle i can't think of what is going to happen when i really get down to sourcing for the hotels, gowns, etc etc! later more n more grey hairs pop out :p
ya! do let me know if u got more info! will also let u know when i start to search

@nefariouskat, then you must remember to ask to view the bridal suite during the site recee too
happy.gif

@Michelle, just recalled that you have quite a lot of tables. If it's just live band singing in one corner, then some of the guests might not be as involved. At least the guitar one moves around, so every table will can participate. I totally agree with you that we want the best of everything - I end up being very indecisive, cause everytime I'm about to decide, I come up with points on why this cannot, the other choice might be better.

@Julia I might be going for BOWS to look at portfolios for PG/VG.

Happy New Year to all! Think we'd all be stepping up on wedding preps in 2011

Just wondering if any has contact on Masters who can count auspicious date to get married. Looking at 2012. But understand the "Tong Shu" Book is not out yet.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!! =))

@nefariouskat: i gotta juggle all these with work & school.. pimples all popping out! haha.. free flow of beer is really big savings if your guests are drinkers.. haa its like at least another $700 for additional barrel.. i'm still kinda hung up on orchard hotel *sigh

@yyiling: ya, that's what i thought so too, we have quite alot of tables.. at least our money is not spent to put them in a corner where not everyone is involved.. the guitar one is more engaging.. but.. tskk..
anyway, i must be damn unlucky, til now all the hotels i went for recce, i didnt get the chance to view the bridal suite! always full, so irritating.. haha

@magdal: Michelle Lee = me! =D

@shock: i got mine from HTB's family fengshui master.. he stays in bukit panjang & office is in international plaza.. i can give you his contact if you want ;)
