Grats about getting the kebaya done! I think it's awesome that you embrace your husband's culture too, even if it's a mere display of costume. Perhaps wear the kebaya during reception (greeting guests) because I had a cross-cultural cousin do that - she greeted guests in her Viet outfit, and delivered her speech in French. I think it's not common practice for the bride to be greeting guests though? I'm not sure what the tradition is, but I usually don't see the bride till the first march-in.

I think it boils down to what your idea of an "evening gown" for the wedding is. If you think it's not "dressy" enough, wear it during the meet and greet or thank you and good night sessions.

@babydino: I was thinking about songs the other day and trying to go through my very obsolete CD collection at the same time (gawd, think the last single I bought was Silverchair! - oops that gives you an indication of my age~). I may very well take the conventional route and pick "At Last" by Etta James because of its grandeur (hubby wants some kind of huge grand entrance so it's befitting, and I've loved this song ever since I heard it, may use Beyonce's version for a more contemporary version, but I do love the uniqueness of Etta's voice).

In the checklists that hotels provide, there's 5 songs for you to pick: 1)First march-in 2)Cake cutting ceremony 3)First dish 4) Second march-in 5)Champagne toast. Anyone else have this?

Strangely enough, I can think of songs for all the misc. songs except for the all-important, breath-holding march-in songs. Sigh.

Other songs that holds personal meaning for us have a boring/flat beat to march-in to (like Katie Melua's "Nine Million Bicycles", Phantom of the Opera's "All I Ask of You", Lisa Ekdahl, Fiest, etc), or have inapt lyrics, so I'm still trying to pick something that is both meaningful and befitting.

I'm hoping that in the next 10 months, another meaningful song will surface for us...

@Double J: Heya! I think we're vying for the Slackest Dec 2011 Bride title. :p Things are firming up on my side though, just have no idea how to work the budget seeing that it currently seems to have no bounds, accomodating only whimsical passing fancies. Bad, very bad indeed.

@Caressa - hmmm i must go bk &amp; check the hotel's checklist thn.. I cant remember.. my htb dont like those sappy love songs &amp; he already mentioned before that he doesnt want to have those for our march-in.. I guess it's also true.. Most weddings are quite conventional (those that I've been to) where they play sappy love songs..

I was thinkin more on the lines of andrea bocelli for my march-in.. but still need to discuss w HTb..

Sigh damn frustrated having to be the middle man between wedding planner, NYC photographer and my bf.

Wedding planner says that its better to have a backup actual day PG coz she's uncomfortable working with an overseas PG without any experience in Asian weddings. She felt that it would be better with just a local PG.

Bf thinks that wedding planner is making us spend extra money and that a backup PG doesn't have to be booked so early ie. 12 months in advance and hence pay money (his impression was having a backup would be spending double for same sets of photos). He thinks that there would be no problem finding a backup PG 2days before the wedding since he has been doing media and official events for his work. (ie got $ anything can be done even 24hr before the wedding)

NYC PG says she'll shoot to reach Singapore 4days before my wedding.

My interpretation of wedding planner's uncomfyness would be that my NYC PG might not make it in time case of bad weather (snow storm), airport closure (airport track freeze) or she's afraid NYC PG will take my money and fly kite (since i'm paying her in 2weeks time).

So tell me, who is right and who is wrong? I feel so sian, going through countless PG that friends intro that all PG style now tends to be the same and i can't tell any difference.

Sian, coming to a point where i wonder why i'm spending so much time on a wedding that's meant to be just a show for 70% of the audience i do not like or know.

Dealing with a groom who will only appear 12hour before the wedding (doesn't seem to believe that his own flight will get screwed up hours before the wedding). All i can imagine would be myself as a bride, driving to the airport in my wedding dress to pick up my groom.

Oh Eileen,

I understand how you feel - the "sian-ness". Just remember we're all here for you, and I do second what you say about how very similiar PG styles tend to be, as if they follow some kind of template, using some kind of checklist of sorts~

I'm looking for something more photojournalistic, and that comes with a price too - it means they would NOT do any posed group portraits or table shots because it's a little "beneath" them, since they're photojournalistic photographers and all~

A company I approached suggested I hire a 2nd photographer just to cover the mandatory table shots.

There is a huge difference in style when it comes to pre-wedding photography though, so pick someone you can click with, and are confident about producing the kind of shots you envision. Use lots of magazine cut-outs of internet print-outs if you must!

I think your wedding planner is just uncomfortable with working with someone she doesn't know, as compared to a local vendor. If your NY photographer has a website, perhaps you can let her view their works so she would be more at ease. I think it's only natural that she's worried because American photographers may not exactly understand the significance of certain traditions (read: template shots), for example, parents covering bride with veil, bride's younger brother opening the car door, bride's father sheltering bride with red umbrella.

You can either reassure her that you're absolutely confident with your photographer (do let her see some of the local work so she'd know what to expect - gatecrashing and all must be very foreign!), or use a local PG for your actual day, keeping your NY photographer for the pre-wedding shoot or even a "trash the dress" session!

jazz, initially was quite reluctant to have it on 25. It x'mas and i afraid ppl cant make it. But well, htb parents said it's a gd date so we just go along with it.

Visited some BS recently n i m quite confused. I like tulle ball gowns n according to my fren, there are only 2 specialised shops in spore for that, which is Silhouette n The Wedding Present. But I dont wish to restrict myself to just 2 shops to choose from. Does anyone know where else i can try that has gd tulle gowns?

Thanks a bunch! N it s so cool to have a forum like this to share info n know new pple. I have to risk troubling my married frens for their experience as I m quite ill informed for such stuff.

I did my circuit of 6-8 bridal studios, with appointments at both Silhouette and Le Grand, and they have lovely princessy tulle gowns. Sorry I can't help more as I really did not do much shopping around, but there's a few along Tanjong Pagar that allows walk-ins so you can take a peak, especially if you're coming from Le Grand which is on the same stretch. I know DiGio and Rico-a-Mona are "sister" companies (with Rico trying to be a more upmarket studio - they were previously Golden Horse Awards Tampines if I'm not wrong, and if you pay for a Rico package, you get the option of picking any dress of DiGio - a few doors down - but not vice versa, but they primarily have the same designers). They have a wide selection, compared to other bridal studios like Le Grand which strives for more exclusivity - they only have a few racks of dresses which change intermittedly every month or so.

Rico, DiGio and Thompson along Tanjong Pagar have more affordable all-in packages, so you can get a feel of the kind of dresses you like. They can be good benchmarks for the type, quality, variety of dresses if you're at the shopping stage. You'd have to be aware that the dresses are rented out at least 30 times before they are moved to the "outdoor photoshoot" dresses section.

I know LeGrand's Luxe package is about $5888 (there was a pretty dress I tried on that was 12k!), and Silhouette is similiar, about 4k, but you need to add $800 for the tulle gowns. Unfortunately, I've thrown away all the package details so I won't suffer from any cognitive dissonance :p

Other bridal studios I visited had their specialty in other areas, like simple, classic duchess satin with signature crystal buttons down from the back to the train (think Bridal Veil), or embrodiery like Amanada Lee and Ted Wu.

You might like to make an appointment with Divine Couture - they do lovely, flattering princessy dresses with low backs and Kim the designer is a blast - very accommodating and helpful with a great eye for detail. Hi b for blur, I also loves tulle gown so my hunt started from silhouette, wedding present and of course ted wu and amanda for their embriodery bult eventually i end my search at le grand today. I went for their showcase and their new tulle collection really caught my eyes and there is one that i really love. Manage to try on it and i immediately told them that i wana to kiv. HTB also commented that it is very nice.

Anyway the reason why i chose Le grand is partly due to their partnership with CL Studio. I really like their setting. Previous bridal shop works more on a-la carte basis which means i need to spend another abt 2k+ or more for my pre-wedding shot. Customer svs, till date is satisfactory la. Go ahead and make appt with all those bridal shop, and try on all those gowns. I'm sure you will be able to find one...

Wow Caressa n Ezann, i m impressed by your knowledge. I went through e videos and at least i can see what they have without gg down. Looks like Le Grand has gd reviews from both of u, maybe i ll find time to go down. I went Margaret Brides over e weekend. She s really e most informative so far n she gave constructive feedback when i ask ques. But her prices are eyebrow raising. I m thinking to go Dang n Le Grand next.

Silhouette's gowns are e most dreamy n fluffy, but my fren gave feedback that she found it tough to walk around comfortably. I m thinking to get a less fluffy tulle gown from other places, otherwise my fiancee will look smaller beside me, haha. But i wonder can a less fluffy tulle gown look more elegant than princessy? Or it ll just defeat e purpose of a tulle gown totally if it is not fluffy enough?

N congrats to Ezann for confirming her BS recently, i can imagine u have one less headache now

There had been so much mixed reviews of the coordinators from SR but how about the wedding itself ?

I have just signed the wedding lunch banquet with The Regent Hotel and just started sourcing for BS. Im looking at Amanda Lee, SIL and The Wedding Present. heh... Any comments, pls? Could anyone pls give me some advice what to look out for when sourcing BS? i.e. hidden costs to note...Im really green to this and plus my fiance is working abroad... will only be bk occasionally to help

Hi Teri,

Welcome! For me I found it really important to have everything written in a proper agreement. Some service provider will give you a verbal price and after that due to come changes in design or whatsoever, the price will increase (notice that it never gets cheaper).

It would also be good if you already have some form of idea on how you want to look on the day. It will help the designer heaps to making your perfect dream gown rather than a bride that is clueless about what she wants.
