Hello girls!
I'm with Mindy, JL and Anatasiazen - also on 3rd Dec!
@Minicupcakes - I really empathise with you. My fiance and I are not very traditional but we know the Actual Day is more about our family, so we simply used the Tong Shu found here:
http://www.bestgiftsforwedding.com/blog/chinese-marriage/auspicious-wedding-dates-2011.html and made sure it did not clash with any of the 6 important chinese zodiac signs (his, mine, his parents, and my parents, even though I had some difficulty reading the chinese characters but made some help ha!) Some people also consider brothers' (apparently, sisters' not important as they "marry out"), but we used it as a simple guideline as a good compromise between tradition and over-complication (seeking geomancers etc). I also posted several dates on the "Ask the Experts" thread and he affirmed 3 Dec was a good date for us.
We were meant to have our wedding in Oct'11 but the venue we wanted was booked! We made several calls around and found that some places have EVERY weekend booked for the next year already. We never knew we had to start with the preparations so early, but we're happy with the date eventually - it is a good timeline between ROM (Dec this year), getting our apartment ready (still sourcing for ID) and then the banquet.
We also toyed with the idea of having it on Christmas Eve, to coincide with our ROM date, but realised we didn't want some of the guests fidgeting in their seats, jonesing to go to some Christmas Eve countdown party or something similiar.
Seems like everyone is so much more prepared than I! It must appear like we're the worst lackadaiscical couple here!
Have fun with preparations, girls!
