@karen I was thinking of having my AD on xmas eve too but not much of my guest can attend so we move it up to 22 so family that are coming here from overseas can double celebrate xmas with us after the wedding its like extended celebration.

Hello girls!

I'm with Mindy, JL and Anatasiazen - also on 3rd Dec!

@Minicupcakes - I really empathise with you. My fiance and I are not very traditional but we know the Actual Day is more about our family, so we simply used the Tong Shu found here: http://www.bestgiftsforwedding.com/blog/chinese-marriage/auspicious-wedding-dates-2011.html and made sure it did not clash with any of the 6 important chinese zodiac signs (his, mine, his parents, and my parents, even though I had some difficulty reading the chinese characters but made some help ha!) Some people also consider brothers' (apparently, sisters' not important as they "marry out"), but we used it as a simple guideline as a good compromise between tradition and over-complication (seeking geomancers etc). I also posted several dates on the "Ask the Experts" thread and he affirmed 3 Dec was a good date for us.

We were meant to have our wedding in Oct'11 but the venue we wanted was booked! We made several calls around and found that some places have EVERY weekend booked for the next year already. We never knew we had to start with the preparations so early, but we're happy with the date eventually - it is a good timeline between ROM (Dec this year), getting our apartment ready (still sourcing for ID) and then the banquet.

We also toyed with the idea of having it on Christmas Eve, to coincide with our ROM date, but realised we didn't want some of the guests fidgeting in their seats, jonesing to go to some Christmas Eve countdown party or something similiar.

Seems like everyone is so much more prepared than I! It must appear like we're the worst lackadaiscical couple here!

Have fun with preparations, girls!

Hello, anyone evaluated the following for photography and videography?? I'm stuck and lost and my bf is not in town to select...in fact he actually found a top notch COMMERCIAL videographer who agreed to do it for us but then sounded quite reluctant...sigh

So here's my selection of photographers :

1) Moomedia - Andrew Mok
2) Zenith Stills - Gary
3) Dazza - Darryl

Anyone met with them before? Any comments?
Still thinking if i need videographer coz i can't imagine doing it with a BBC videographer..scarly keep asking me to NG NG NG then how?

Hi Eileen,
I met Andrew Mok and think his work is awesome, particularly with videography. Have not met with the rest so cannot comment on them, but Andrew really stood out when he pointed out which moments he would have snapped when we were sitting there talking to him, explaining how awkward we are in front of the camera!

@JohnandLayla,
I found out those garden weddings wooden chairs $15/pc for rental. That's what my wedding planner told me.

@Caressa, Andrew charging me extra 1k for using his service, no extra charge if i use his Hazel..u used hazel, kelvin or andrew?

caressa

Hi Eileen,
I haven't signed up with a photographer yet, but yes, there is an additional charge if you request for Andrew.

I'm still undecided because everyone's rates are so competitive, and while I like someone's AD work, they may be slightly lacking in the PW area, especially with the theme I have in mind, so it's really confusing! And If I do everything a la carte, it's just going to be more expensive, and I won't be able to build a good, firm rapport with the photographer.
Who have you shortlisted?

pantieileen

New Member
Initially was Moomedia vs Zenith Stills coz i find Zenith Stills rather artistic then my bf didn't like coz Zenith Stills tend to have small human big background.

So now it's Moomedia vs Dazza but i find it strange that Dazza is more ex although i though Moo is more famous

U?

Hi Eileen,

Haven't decided yet. A toss-up between Chris Ling himself, Alvelyn Alko, Travis Ong, Attitude Photography.

@Joanna - Shop around. Tanjong Pagar is a good place to start - expect to be hustled into certain bridal shops. Try on several dresses to get an idea of what is most flattering on you, then go from there. Most bridal studios have a specialty in something, eg. Olive for Grecian drapey dresses, Silhouette for princessy tulle dresses (as with Le Grand), Federick Lee for avant-garde couture, Margaret for lace, La Vie and Divine Couture for low-back dresses, Dang and Ted Collection for cheongsams, etc.

You shortlist them based on your budget, and see which bridal studios give you the most bang for your buck with their packages (some have tie-ups with makeup, hairstyling, photography, floral decoration, gent's suit, etc included in the package), or if you decide to do it all a la carte.

How about attending BOWS show? SingaporeBrides' homepage offers highlights of the latest bridal showcases and promotions - http://www.singaporebrides.com/#WeddingShows

Hi everyone,

I'm also a Dec 2011 bride. Was initially an Oct 2011 bride, but becoz dates not gd for us, we shifted our AD to 3rd Dec 2011.

After reading thru the forum, I'm getting worried!! I've only settled my venue!
sad.gif
Feel sooo lost..

Some brides already have a theme in mind! OmG.. i thought theme is provided by the hotel florist & jz follow from there..

Was actually thinking of getting a wedding planner too, but seems quite expensive..

Katsigner - u mentioned tat u settled on ur theme & worked backwards.. But i tot tat the theme is provided by the hotel & the florist .. isnt it like abit too early as the themes may change?

I'm like so totally clueless.. I only knw tat I need a venue, a BS - PW PG will be provided by BS, AD PG & VG. Htb will b driving own car..

What else did i miss out? Would really appreciate all advice & suggestions as I am plannin the wedding myself, sourcing, co-ordinating, etc.. Htb says his role is to appear, decide & pay $.. =_=

Thanks!

babydino: my AD on 3rd Dec too! ROM same day same place as AD.

Settled on hotel, BS, solemniser, photographers and videographer. For me, I have only decided on colour theme for AD and some designs for my MTM gown. Car will look at it nearer to our date. Have my own car but thinking of renting a vintage one.

Think if your date is a hot one, you may want to book your solemniser already. and if you not using your BS photographers, time to look for your ideal ones now.

babydino

New Member
wah eva!!

U even booked ur solemniser already!! Gosh.. I tot we needed to register at ROM 1st then find the JP.. My ROM will aso be on the same day at the hotel..

I am currently lookin for AD PG & VG.. tinkin of unique-colours..

BS is my fren's one, The Aisle.. she told me only need to go see her in Apr to start on my gown.. most likely will take her PG as i did see abit of his work.. looks not bad & reviews from tis forum aso quite ok.. Also.. me & HTB err dun like to take pics.. wahahah

Cannot smile naturally.. lol

evanthlyn

babydino: you have to book solemniser first before u rom. If not the solemniser you want may be approached by another couple alr. Book ur solemniser, he will send u a letter together with his ID. then when u e-register ur rom, you will need his/her ID.

My AD and VG is unique colours hehe.

for me, march then i go for fitting and gown selecting.

Hi Dec 2011 BTBs, anyone's AD on 9 December? We wanted 3rd Dec too but most of the venues were already fully booked on the more auspicious dates. We settled for 9 Dec 2011 as it was available in more hotels and not sure y?? Maybe not as auspicious as other dates...

babydino

New Member
hahaha eva we most likely will be taking unique colours too.. now I knw who booked adrian.. lol coz he told me he not available but his team-mate will be doin it..

Wat a coincidence!!

Hw did u choose ur solemniser then?

evanthlyn

New Member
Pink: did you see any geomancer to get 9th dec?

babydino: haha yah so coincidental. which hotel have you booked?

I chose my solemniser after reading the forum. You can KIV a couple and read the reviews. Mine is Dr Phua Tan Tee

Hi Eva, we went to Geomancer to get a few dates but those dates are already almost fully booked. We did not want to waste anymore money on choosing dates so we decided to just pick a date that is available and does not appear too bad on the lunar calendar
happy.gif

Will be booking Swissotel Merchant Court..

evanthlyn

New Member
Pink: since it does not appear bad in the lunar calendar, then it's ok. It will be an awesome wedding for you :)

My friend booked Swissotel too. Heard many good reviews bout it.

babydino

New Member
Eva, i've booked swissotel stamford/fairmont
happy.gif

I wanted Dr Phua as well.. lol!! Looks like I've to find sm1 else then..

Whr will u be having ur dnr?

evanthlyn

babydino: so coincidental! but your rom morning, afternoon or night or during your wedding? mine will be at 6:15pm. So maybe he can go to yours too.

babydino

New Member
Eva: my ROM shld be ard that time too.. coz the hotel gv us complimentary use of function room for ROM. Then will probably finish up the tea ceremony there for relatives who cant cm over to my place in the morn..

Definitely, we can share ideas & plannin for our big day

Already booked venue, but just done with ROM (Xmas Eve!). It does seem like 3 Dec is a popular date so the important vendors like makeup artist, venue, and photographer should be booked soon!

I'm planning a white and gold wedding, in tune with the venue's decor and hopefully, some personal touches.
happy.gif
Will probably add some more flowers as their non-VIP tables seem a little lacking, and will probably do a nicer reception. What are your themes?

So, I guess the current count is 6 of us on 3rd Dec? Mindy, JL, Anatasiazen, eva, babydino and I?

Let's keep swapping ideas!

goin to ask a silly qtn.. but what is wedding stationary? Is it the book whereby guests sign their wellwishes? I assume tat will be provided by the hotel together with the ang bao box? Any1 planning to get their own?

I roughly knw the type of gown i wan for my wedding.. thinking of halter neck as sm hw i tink i will keep fidgeting if i wear a bustier as i will worry that the gown will drop.. plannin on have an emerald green or red EG..

Wat abt PW PS? U gals planning to take in SG? or overseas? I'm most likely goin to take in SG.. previously the oct 2011 thread some gals said that they wanted to bring balloons & stuff to the PS & one even wanted to do smthing princessy..

Wat u gals plannin?

evanthlyn

New Member
caressa: white and gold is nice! I think i will leave my non-vip tables as they are. Dont wanna spend too much $$. Yup! Keep swapping ideas. :)

babydino: i think it's guest book, coloured pens etc. My hotel not throwing in angbao box. so i will try to find one on my own. If cant find then rent from the hotel. PS I am taking in SG too. Haha have not thought much about it. Dont even know which outdoor locations I want. Headache.

mindy: yeah 6 of us! I will be selecting gowns in march.. Dont know when should I do ps. Will seek opinion from BS. What about you?

Hi Babydino,

How's your experience with Fairmont? Any advice on ballroom and menu? My fiance and I are thinking of the Grandeur menu @ Stamford Ballroom on a weekday. We appreciate your kind advice and sharing. Cheers!

babydino

New Member
Hi Joey,

Our package doesnt have the Granduer menu so I'm not sure.. Ours is the Collyer room.. Fairmont actually has 1 super big ballroom that they break into 3 parts.. Ours was originally the Canning, but becoz we changed our date, our ballrm changed to Collyer.

Experience w Fairmont so far is ok.. Only jz booked the venue, havent even selected dishes yet.. Althou pls note that Fairmont do not serve sharksfin. Err.. abt the ballroom, I cant rem if the super big one combined is called stamford or raffles ballroom.. I only have 32 tables.

How many tables do u have? Hv you booked with them yet? I heard fm my co-ord that price increased already.. Do u hv the latest price list? Can email me? [email protected]

If can, try to book during their wedding show.. They usually throw in anther nite's stay in the bridal suite which is sooo cool...

babydino

New Member
Hi Joey!!

I jz realised why I dun have the granduer menu.. Coz it's in the new price list.. When i booked my venue.. it was still on the old list & pricing.. Price really went up

caressa

New Member
Mrs ho: Saw them at Kikki.K but they probably run a little expensive. Try eBay - there are numeral ones, heart shaped ones - prices start at US$2.46 for 10, or 100 plain ones for US$3.84 - http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=wooden+peg+clip&_sacat=0&_sop=15&_odkw=wooden+pegs&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Haven't signed a photographer yet so not sure when the pre-wedding shoot will be. Bridal studio requires 1st appointment 6 months prior to the shoot though, and will definitely be doing it locally.

I'm having a rather small and intimate dinner of only 25 tables so won't be getting the entire ballroom, but that suits me fine, as long as the ballrooms beside us won't be hosting some Viagra medical conference! Heard an awful story of someone's guests being greeted by huge life-sized ovaries for some fertility conference!

Babydino: I think wedding stationery refers to the guestbook, reception book/seating chart, ang pao box and even extends to the invitations etc. Some people prefer it to follow the same theme so may source for it themselves. Not planning to get my own - will happily accept the hotel's complimentary stationery as long as it doesn't look too awful!

Hotels usually throw in another night's stay, are you saying that you'd get 3 nights if you book during a wedding show?

I like that Fairmont doesn't serve sharksfin, personally I would opt out of sharksfins if I'm allowed to. Now I'm probably just going to cringe inwardly throughout the soup course :/ There are printable sharksfin 'tents' that you can place on the guests' tables, informing them that your chose a non-sharksfin dish for environmentally sustaintable and animal cruelty reasons. Let me know if you want to see them!

Hi Caressa..

For fairmont.. they only offer 1 nite stay in bridal suite.. u can choose additional stay in their normal room from their list of indulgences.. So whn I signed my package with them that time I only got 1 nite stay in bridal suite.. If u sign durin their wedding show then U get 2 nites at the bridal suite.. their bridal suite is located on 64th - 66th flr..

I tink i will aso use what the hotel provides.. Fairmont will be providing the wedding guest book & matching gift box.. Save $ unless it's really awful thn no choice but to source outside.. I tink sm places allows u to rent the box.. I came across one site that sells/rent bouquets, corsages & those flower button things for the groom/daddies/brothers.. they aso have those birdcages that u can rent as angbao holders

http://www.ufloragifts.com/ufloragifts_pdtcategories_accessories_bridalacc.html

I think their handheld bouquets of crystals are quite nice.. I went to a wedding that the bride was using..super nice! Tinkin if I can rent from them would be gd ..

hi everyone = ),

I have not logged in for a very very long time. But i am a 2 Dec 2011 btb. Just did my ROM on the 18 Dec.

Have only booked my venue, and now thinking where to find my wedding gown.

Can anyone of you recommend a BS or designer who can design something funky? i am kind of looking for rock-style design.

caressa

New Member
@Layla: Wow Layla, you're super organised! Now, you can relax and go for monthly facials! I'm also toying with the idea of a real cake (have always been a great fan of Martha Steward weddings and the cakes featured are soooo gorgeous!), but am wondering how the logistics would be - ie. how to cut and serve guests as efficiently as possible?

@Pinkscrump: Firstly, congrats on being married! Sounds like you're going to have a really fun wedding! What is your theme? I only know of Frederick Lee who does really avant-garde wedding gowns but he's quite a high-end designer. On this page, http://www.styleweddings.sg/cms/articlenew.aspx?Editorial_Id=658&SubCatId=9&EP=N&MSubCatID1=2&MSubCatID2=6 , it features Whitelink's 'funky' dresses if that's what you're looking for?

How many dresses are you girls having on the AD? I'm now thinking a Kua is unnecessary, and was wondering how many changes you girls are going to do.

I've effectively booked *nothing* as I haven't laid down a deposit on anything yet, though things are firming up and most of it are in verbal agreements or email discussions. Visited a number of bridal studios, met up with some photographers, that's about it. Slack, totally slack. /sigh
