Hi all, my fiance and I are getting married on 23/2/08. We have not booked any restaurants or my gown yet. And becoz we work in the media industry most of our friends are offering to help us with photography and videography. =)

Just feeling stressed out lately so decided to find out like-minded sisters who are getting hitched at around the same time. =)

I am 27 and work as a Scriptwriter

Hi Geraldine,

Don't be so stress out....
U mus know what is your budget for hotel?? Then can try to walk around 1st...

But if u oredi decided on Feb mus book the venue fast cos not much time left...

Worse, if it's an auspicious date...

I dunno we are Christians so we didnt bother about that =) it is the sixteenth day of the Chinese Lunar new Year haha... grins cheekily.

Our parents havent met to talk about the tables and dowry, etc yet... =p

Primarily due to my fiance and I working in a job that , as my mum calls it, "has no night no day". =)

Hi bb & Hi Geraldine .. welcome to the thread.

I went to D'sire today it's at 97 Amoy St, made an appointment. Heard from my friend if no appointment, they wont'let u try the gowns.
Anyway, my verdict ... VERY NICE gowns!!! *drool* Pricing goes from S$688 and up n up ha ha ha. I tried like 4-5 gowns .. and found 2 that really suits me ... (nice design and make me look slimmer ha ha). Will be deciding in a few days time.

Dear Girls,

I need help! Torn between heart and brain.... There is a pretty 3 room HDB terrance flat. Asking price is $465k plus a cash payment of $20k. But at this price, can easily get a 5-room or EA flat. Should I be more rational or follow my heart? My FH is keen in getting the 3-room terrance, he said that it is more important to find a place we both like and work hard for it. But I think it is not practical and am very worried. We are both now very vexed...

Hi Netfinity : Thanks for the info. I'll take note.

Hi : geraldine, your son is so charming

.. I've seen in one of the photos before there's this bride wearing angel wings but not fairy ones. Maybe you can borrow one from a costume shop? I think they should have

hi all...

val,
i was too busy to go for the ave 8 one even tho it was free.
did you get the makeover etc?

i went to herworld show and oriental.

wah seh, pan pac themes looks so cheap and cheena and so few flowers..
they have 1 theme with blue round cloth things with white flowers....look like funeral wreaths....and i LIKE blue.

as for the herworld, got a clarins makeover (to go to one of their branches and do there), got to see wedding gowns and evening gowns from various BS.
overall, VERY BORING.
i tot wedding shows are fun events.
i can't imagine how xian the guys are.
saw quite a few nodding off during the fashion show part....

went over to oriental since the herworld one was so boring.
let's just say oriental is a cut above pan pac.
the themes are very lovely.
VERY VERY lovely.
not exaggerating.
the fan shape ballroom has such lovely chandeliers!!! and all the themes are sooooo nice. doesnt matter which you choose!!!!
my fav is the oriental (red roses) and dream (sliver/black table cloth)
the VIP table flowers were not stingy (like pan pac)
the stage/aisle flowers/deco din look cheap or dated (like pan pac)
prices are very high!!!
pris, i went to garden suite, din see any guy there leh.
i went atrium also...also din see any guy.
this girl, justina, brought us around.
apart from the price, oriental suite is a little small...
they do have a bathroom for guests in the living room area, so bedroom's bathroom is exclusive for bride.groom. but not very impressive suite.
atrium is not so nice. no chandelier, looks like function room but well decorated.
garden suite is L shape. Has daylight, very suitable for ROM + reception. very charming place. good for semi-formal.

saw conrad's ballroom.
very nice too!!! lighting, walls, everything was pretty good. unfortunately, no set up so cant see the themes. but the ballroom itself passes.

saw ritz ballroom, chuchilly (or soemthing) and meeting rooms.
ballroom is HUGE.
foyer is HUGE too. like a ballroom of other hotels.
dont like the lights. their stage is a REAL stage.
like a theatre.

meeting rooms: ceiling low. not nice.
chuchilly (whatever) : nicer, have high ceiling. lighting good. suitable for small grps, like 9 -10 tables.
cosy.

marina mandarin:
vanda ballroom
sort of semi circular shape. quite small. maybe 25 tables max.
no chandelier.
main ballroom (level 1): chandelier.
nice chandeliers.
foyer also have nice chandeliers.
foyer is nice, exclusive cos gotta go thru glass doors to get to foyer....very private.
can't see whole ballroom. saw one section (they divided for meetings) nice grand chandeliers, walls good.
can hold up to 60 tables (they said). din see themes. they have a show coming up.

that's my report. :p

Hi all, i went to Oriental too. FH and i liked it lots, but we find the fan-shaped layout of the ballroom a bit odd. So far, we've seen The Regent and Oriental only. We went to Pan Pac to take a look, tho we didn't reg for the Her World Show. Popped by in the evening when eveyone was packing up. So we didn't see the interior of ballroom. Heard it's quite long, and there'd be many tables far from stage area. Personally, the Pan Pac lobby and foyer pales in comparison to Regent n Oriental.

I've seen quite a few hotels and have narrowed down to Grand Copthorne Waterfront, Swissotel Stamford and maybe Merchant Court.

Racherly,

Comparing Oriental and Pan Pac, I find Oriental ballroom nicer..

Pan Pac level 1 - Pacific ballroom has a very long march in. Let's say u got 40 tables.. the length of your ballroom will be abt 20 tables long.. my bf and me decided to give up coz it's too longish..

wa nec ur post is sooo long! but its gd. more updates. tks for the trouble to post so much :D

yup i did get the makeover and i did a porepack from one of the beautician.. really removed loads of blackheads! really veri gd product but its ex.. $98 for a tube of abt 10cm. u got multiply not.. i show u the pics keke.

wa suddenly so many chandeliers from those places ar.. tempt me leh!! keke. but i've given them all up.. haiz. no choice smtimes. so wad's ur verdict? which will u choose or which is on the top of ur list now?

ya pan pac's look lik funeral.. i tink merchant court one also look like with the cloth draping deco on the stage. ya oriental is veri nice.. price also veri high.. tats why i gave up mar.. haha. pris is a veri lucky gal.. can hold her wedding there at such gd prices. i shd get a hubby who owns the raffes hotel or smting? there got v nice ballrooms with lovely chandeliers whahaha.

Hi Viv,

Think both of you got to work out the sums together if it's feasible to get the flat. Have you factor in your loan repayment and period, interest rate, inflation in the coming years, financial planning for family, career plans (are you going to be a SAHM in future, will your FH able to finance the loan by himself , etc).
I share the same worries as you when my FH say if we can't find a flat that we want, we will settle for a 2rm condo. In my opinion, it's not advisable as the property market in the pte apartments are really crazy now with the speculations going around. It has even affect the Singapore public housing too. Most properly will wait for the property bubble to burst and invest in one. My take is , live within your means, no point straddle in debt.

Think you can read abit about this thread (if i got the title right) " Debt Trap.." in the forum. My 2cents opinion

ya ncq is not bad.. i've chosen it ma.. of cos i say not bad haha. let me summarise for u the gd n bad points for ncq. gd points: ballroom (phoenix ballroom (for 30-50 tables) is high ceiling and pillarless.. newly renovated juz last yr. toilets are near and new too. exclusive and spacious foyer with sofas for elderly to sit n wait. deco is not bad, either flower theme or crystal theme. they got intelligent light and sound system and do not charge us for it. suite is lovely with nice view and jacuzzi bathtub. ncq ppl put in effort to deco the suite really nicely. most impt, price is gd for budget brides. only down point is hotel is above a shopping centre (liang court- but not its supposedly undergoing reno soon, hopefully it will be done by our weddings keke) and the exterior is ugly-orange coloured building which doesn look the least grand or like a hotel. so gotta compare the pros and cons and see wad u want
happy.gif

if u take 7th june right, ncq no space le for 2008
