Am really keen to have a traditional 1st dance during our Banquet dinner but exactly blessed with fantastic dancing skills. Maybe a slow dance would be good. Anyone has done it or has any good suggestion on how to go about it, or places where we can learn a chorographed dance for our special night. Thanks alot! =)

i had Salsa dance with my hubby on my wedding...
my guests were surprised by it as most of them didn't know beforehand
we were overwhelmed by all the cheering and clapping.... We definitely did not regret doing the dance!!!! if you want... just do it... so that you have no regrets at all... afterall it is only once in a lifetime that you are making a difference by doing something great like this for yourselves...

initially i also thought of giving up the thought.. luckily We didn't... Due to encouragement from my Hubby... we went ahead with it...

Hey, that sounds interesting! I heard that Rendezvous Hotel is having a wedding show on 27 June 09 whereby a dance studio is having a booth there as well, introducing having a 1st dance in instead of march in..

Hi all, if you are interested in picking up a slow dance, you can do rumba (a latin ballroom dance - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzNS4_cZYTc) or the waltz (a standard dance - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1afoHwxcio). Of course, these are the pros and you may take more than a few lessons to look like that.

I've been dancing for a few years, and personally I think it might be easier to pick up a slow dance than a fast one. There are many schools offering wedding dance classes.

hi Tabitha..
a wedding dance will definitely look great on pictures...
and it's gonna be memorable..
some couples do it for their 2nd march in.. i.e have lights turned off, then when the spot lights go on again, the couple magically appear in the middle of the aisle and start waltzing to the stage...
i took dance lessons from Irene and she's really patient.. my partner was almost tone deaf and beat deaf (haha!) but Irene was super patient and qualified (won awards when she was in her 20s)
it's a pity that when my partner stopped dancing, my hubby didn't wanna pick it up wif me and i didn't bother looking for another partner.. so i oso stopped.. sigh.. anyways, the contact details are..
Allan & Irene Dance Studio. Blk 70A Geylang Bahru ... Singapore 331070. Tel: 6348 5516

just wondering is it more ang-mo to do first dance? bec then the aunty & uncles ard may sort of feel awkward or not? i mean e old style aunties & uncles from distant relative sides?

Such a great idea, highly interested! :D But very blur on how to execute this.. Is it necessary to set up a dance floor?

Psyence - can waltz be done along the aisle? Thought such dance need quite a big open area? Told my HTB about dancing along the aisle - he thought it's not possible, except for tango *faint*. I can never imagine myself doing tango! Some more in front of so many ppl *shivers*

Heal - I think most ppl (if not all) should b ok with slow dance. I think there are actually a lot of aunties & uncles who love dancing haha..

Took lessons from both Allan & Irene Dance Studio and RPMerleon. Irene is very patient and made it fun. Cannot say the same for RP Merleon. Pele was not very patient and was disrespectful.

I find RpMerleon to be very professional for Pele not only encouraged us in every lesson even though we didn't have time to practice, she also gave us tips & suggestions on how to make our wedding dance a resounding success. Because of her patient coaching & final 7 tips given in our last lesson, our wedding dance was well received by all our guests with wonderful compliments to boot.

Another important factor is that I contacted RpMerleon when the instructors were having their yearly overseas dance training. Pele later explained that they frequently go for intensive overseas training under very famous world champions with high rankings (instructors who coach those in Dancing With The Stars!) to bring back latest to teach us students. That's all I want to say.

Hi Everyone,

I am thinking of doing a wedding dance instead of the normal march in..

However, I received some advices that I should have a proper dance floor and I am afraid that most probably only me and my htb will be the only ppl dancing.. the dance floor wil thus remain "cold" since no one will be joining us..

Does any one has experience in dealing with this issue? Appreciate you can share your experience.. Thanks!

Banquetsearch,
Depending on how technical and complicated your dance is, you may or may not need a proper dance floor.
For our ROM we just dance on carpet for lunch and concrete for dinner and it was fine. I just couldn't do multiple spins that's all.

Jun,
Are you thinking of doing waltz or latin dancing? Private lessons would be best if you wanna learn it fast. Group lessons may end up taking awhile if you want to know enough steps to do a proper dance.

Jun,

I would say salsa. It is alot less technical than the waltz and its very social and you can anyhow wack and it would still be ok. You can't do that with the waltz.

With salsa you'll be able to pick up the three basic steps, do a simple turn, a cross body lead and a cross body lead turn in an one hour lesson.

Good luck! If you need any help, let me know
