    Raffles Hotel

im_24, best of luck with your hotel search! Actually, Shangrila has a good western menu too. They have smaller venues for weddings, Waterfall Terrace, The Pavillion, etc (under their intimate wedding package). I enquired previously for a group of about 80 pax. I'm not sure if they have the...

    Raffles Hotel

Just to add, I believe EIR doesn't serve chinese food. Have to opt for western. I enquired about 2 years ago. They said cannot have chinese food cos the chinese kitchen is too far from EIR. Only Casurina and Ballroom can have chinese food.

    Raffles Hotel

missdaffy, I agree Raffles is quite stiff with perks. but Raffles is more convenient for guests. Shang is quite out of the way. im_24, Shang uses 3 florists. It's the couple's choice who to go for. I dun know how many HIPV uses.. but I know Dolly does set ups for both Shang and HIPV. We...

    Raffles Hotel

hi im, I'm not a Raffles Hotel bride - had our wedding at Shangrila, but my parents' wedding anniversary was at Raffles hotel. I agree that Raffles' ballroom is not as nice as most other places. it's more of a cozy feel. But the food is ver yvery good and the service of the staff on the dinner...

    Shangri-la Hotel

Hi, I was a Sept 07 Shang bride. just to share my experience. My coordinator was Melanie and Veronica was helping her out with paperwork. I'm not sure if Veronica is newly promoted in a way, and handling clients by herself now. If so, maybe she's still new at her job and trying to cope...

    The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

hi pongy, yes, we had a stage at Fullerton too. It's the standard sized stage there. just enough to cover the 2 doors at the end of the Straits Room. I think you may want to ask for the dimensions of both places to be sure about spaciousness. Fullerton felt more spacious to me, both with and...

    The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

Just to add, for smaller celebrations like less than 120 pax, normally about 10% or more of your invited guests will not turn up after getting your invitation. about 5 % will not turn up between the time they RSVP and the actual day. If it is a weekday event, maybe more than 5% will not turn up...

    The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

Pongy, just to add - I found Straits Room more spacious than Casuarina Suite. In fact, Fullerton told me 120 pax no prob (for chinese sit down) but Tom Toh of Raffles Hotel told me that 120 pax (for chinese sit down) at their casuarina suite is very cramp. I found 8 tables quite crowded too but...

    The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

Hi Pongy, Fullerton uses the larger 6 feet tables for their normal tables. it's not squeezy at all. In fact, most hotels use 5 or 5.5 feet tables for 10 to 11/12 pax. You may just want to check that the size for the 10-12 pax tables are still 6 feet. They used 6 feet for us in April 2006...

I'm not sure about the buffet style. We had it chinese sit down. Min was 80 pax. max is 120 pax. We had 8 tables (of 10 to 12 pax), and 1 very big table (16 pax). In total about 102 pax.

    Raffles Hotel

Hi pongy, No. it's not Tom. Tom Toh was with catering sales. LIke Pauline. What I meant was the gentleman who ran the evening for us. coordination and everything. I can't recall his name, but if you are keen to find out, you can ask Raffles Hotel who oversaw 1 Sept 07 dinner at Casurina...

    The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

Hi pongy, I had my engagement party at Fullerton's Straits Room. It's true that Fullerton opens up for booking quite late. Dun know why. It was a good experience at Fullerton. COordinator was Diana who left Fullerton in mid 2006.

    Raffles Hotel

Hi pongy, I used Casuarina Suite in Sept last year for my parents' wedding anniversary. Both Suites. One for cocktail, one for the dinner. 8 tables of about 86 people in total. Very good food and fantastic banquet manager. I can't recall the name but it's a chiense name, young guy, malaysian...

Tea ceremony - to kneel to parents or not ?

it's okay to kneel to parents. Actually it's to thank them for bringing us up. On my parents' side, they actually said no need to kneel so we didn't kneel. But when my mom got married, she knelt to her parents. FYI. My maternal grandma is still alive - we didn't kneel to my parents. But my...

Savings for marriage...(couples with zero savings to start, pls join in)

I agree with JGal. Also, some older relatives may only give gold during tea ceremony and not give anything during wedding dinner. There are also some guests who may give gifts like cyrstals for the wedding dinner.

Advice needed on sitting arrangement for VIP tables?

Depends on what you believe in. In a church setting, gal's family sits on the left of the aisle, guy's family sits on the right of the aisle. In the chinese tradition, it is always guy on the left, gal on the right. I asked my wedding coordinator before and she said both ways have...
