After years of friendship that quietly blossomed into something more, Mel and Josh marked the next chapter of their journey with an intimate \u201cI do\u201d at 1-Flowerhill.<\/i><\/p>

S<\/b>et against the laidback charm of 1-Flowerhill, Mel and Josh\u2019s wedding unfolded with an easy, unforced charm that was thoughtful yet unpretentious, and filled with the kind of warmth that comes from a love built over time. The 27-year-old Healthcare Administrator and 29-year-old Acoustic Consultant first met at their university hall\u2019s freshmen orientation camp (even if Josh might say otherwise), but it was through a shared CCA that their connection quietly deepened. <\/p>

What started as a steady friendship across overlapping circles grew into something more meaningful, grounded in a sense of comfort and familiarity that neither of them could ignore. After a quietly orchestrated surprise proposal during Mel\u2019s solo trip to Japan, the pair set out in search of a space that felt just as intimate and personal, and found it at 1-Flowerhill, where they gathered their closest loved ones for a celebration that felt entirely their own.<\/p>

<\/ins><\/div>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What drew you to each other?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

We knew each other for three years before getting together. Nothing romantic initially, just hung out as friends and occasionally in different friend groups. What gradually drew us closer was the ease and comfort we found in each other\u2019s company. Over time, that connection deepened, until we realised how much emptier life would feel without the other. What began as friendship quietly evolved into something more, with romance becoming its most natural outcome.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What is it about your partner that you love the most?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Josh<\/i>: Mel is the happiest part of my day. I love that she always feels comfortable around me.<\/p>

Mel<\/i>: He\u2019s everything that I\u2019m not\u2014patient, gentle, and accommodating, and we bring out the kid in each other.<\/p> \"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What was the moment that made you realise that he\/she was the one for you?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Mel<\/i>: After a few years together and having gone through some tough times, I realised Josh is good for me and the type of person I want to settle down with. There was no specific \u2018moment\u2019, but more of coming back to the same answer that Josh is the person I want to be with every time I ask myself about the future.<\/p>

Josh<\/i>: I would not pinpoint the exact moment, but recently as I was going through a difficult period it forced me to reflect on life and the people around me. Mel helped me a lot through the tough times and it was through that, that reaffirmed my decision that she was the one, and no one else.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Josh, tell us about the proposal.<\/b><\/b><\/p>

The main criteria she had for the proposal was that she wanted it to be private\u2014none of that flash mob or big proposal with family and friends present kind of thing. As for the engagement ring, Mel knew she didn\u2019t want a diamond but she didn\u2019t know what gemstone she wanted. We went to a few bespoke jewellery shops to learn about different types of gemstones and she discovered that she liked turquoise gemstones and pear cuts. I continued doing more research and visited Storis by myself. I picked out a gemstone I thought Mel would like, and brought her to Storis on another day to let her pick out a gemstone. <\/p>

As it turns out, Mel picked out the same gemstone I had picked previously and Eve pieced together a mock-up of the ring design based on Mel\u2019s personality and inspiration from our story. Since Mel did not know that I had proceeded with Storis as the final jeweller, the final engagement ring was a surprise to her.<\/p>

Although Mel wanted an \u2018incognito\u2019 type of proposal, I still wanted it to have some flair so we can fondly remember it by. When she told me that she was planning for solo trip, I knew it was going to be an opportunity that I couldn\u2019t miss. So, I booked my flights, and started planning accordingly. There were many things beyond my control during planning, such as wet weather plans, where she would be when I arrived and what the scenery would look like. But, I still went ahead with the plan, trusting that everything would be fine.<\/p>

Thankfully, on the day itself, everything went according to plan. She was at a really pretty location, relatively secluded, and things were shaping out to be great. I hopped on the car I rented, drove straight from the airport to where she was, bought flowers at a nearby florist on the way and started camping. When I finally found her, I leapt out from the sidewalk and surprised her, got down on one knee and proposed. Everything happened so quick, but I still remember the day with fond memories.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Mel, did you know a proposal was coming before it happened, or were you taken completely by surprise?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

I spontaneously booked my first ever solo trip in the beginning of 2024, to go to Japan in October for a week. A few weeks before my trip I kept going back and forth between being excited and worried, because it was my first time travelling alone. The days I would be worried, I would half-jokingly ask him if he didn’t want to come along, to which he would always laugh and say no because it\u2019s my solo trip and he doesn\u2019t want to spoil it for me. At times, I thought to myself that this solo trip would be the perfect opportunity for him to surprise me, so I tried to ask my parents if Josh said anything to them. I thought I could tell when my parents were lying, especially my dad, but I guess I was wrong.<\/p>

While I was in Japan, I tried to video call Josh so I could show him Mount Fuji, but he declined, saying he was in a meeting. It struck me as slightly odd since he had told me the day before that he was working overnight and wouldn\u2019t be working that morning, but I didn\u2019t think too much of it at the time. A few hours later, my tour group arrived at Lake Yamanaka. It was quiet, with only a handful of people around, and I was walking along the lake taking in the view when two tourists suddenly stopped in front of me, with one of them holding up a phone, filming. <\/p>

Then, from the bushes to my right, Josh appeared with a bouquet in hand. I was completely taken aback. It took me a couple of minutes to process that he was really there, since just two hours earlier I had tried to call him, thinking he was in Singapore and at work, and now he was suddenly standing right in front of me. Even the proposal was funny because he forgot the ring box was still in the bag, so he had to ask me to turn around while he fumbled to remove the bag.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What was your wedding planning like?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

We didn\u2019t have any theme or venue in mind, but Mel wanted to avoid Sentosa as it would be inconvenient for guests to travel. We visited several hotels and restaurants, and one of the 1-Group staff suggested we visit 1-Flowerhill, which was relatively new at the time. As soon as we entered the restaurant, both of us felt the vibes and there was not much competition from there on. Our estimated guest list fell within their capacity range (this is important as most venues have a minimum number of guests for booking!) and the layout felt cosy enough for genuine interactions. We also liked that they used rectangular tables, which provided more flexibility for seating arrangements. <\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Take us back to your wedding day. What was the day like and how were you feeling?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

The day went by so quickly. It was like a mixture of excitement, adrenaline, and gratefulness blended together into an iced blended juice we drank too quickly. Before we knew it, the day was over. Thankfully, we had our friends who helped us through and helped us hit our planned sequences.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What did your family and friends have to say about your wedding day?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

When we caught up with friends after the wedding, we were pleasantly surprised that many of them genuinely had fun and enjoyed it. We\u2019re really grateful for this as we wanted our wedding to feel down-to-earth and for people to just have fun.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding.<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Josh<\/i>: I think there were too many memorable moments, not just one, such as the moment when Mel pranked me for the first look by getting my friend to dress as a bride, our private vows, to a peacock showing up during our solemnisation ceremony, us hosting our wedding kahoot quiz and surprising Mel with a song I wrote.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What is one lesson you\u2019ve learned from your wedding planning that you\u2019d like to share with other couples?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

It\u2019s only one day of the rest of your life! Don\u2019t put so much stress and emphasis on it and just have fun! Don\u2019t feel like you need to follow a certain programme or have certain details in your wedding\u2014it\u2019s literally a day to celebrate the both of you and you can do whatever you want.<\/p>
