T<\/b>hunder and lightning had nothing on Ching Wen and Jonathan’s big day, thanks to the powerhouse team behind Fico<\/a>. General manager, restaurant manager and waitresses alike proactively went out of their way to provide the newlywed couple with the best service and experience possible, outshining the weather with their generosity and genuine hearts.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

How did the two of you meet?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Ching Wen:<\/i> Bumble. Yes, we are one of those couples. One swipe right and suddenly it became lifelong commitment. Technology is powerful\u2014I was just casually swiping, judging photos and bios like a full-time HR manager. Little did I know I was about to interview my future husband.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What is it about your partner that you love the most?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Ching Wen:<\/I> He takes care of me, no matter what. Not just in a cute way, but for real. Making sure I eat. Making sure I sleep. Listening to my dramatic life updates.<\/p>

What was the moment that made you realise that he was the one for you?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Ching Wen:<\/I> It was during a period where life was not easy for me. But he did not get tired. He did not run away. He did not ask, \u201cWhy are you still sad?\u201d He just stayed. Quietly supportive and solid. That was when I knew, this one is long-term material.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Tell us about your proposal.<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Ching Wen:<\/I> The funniest part is\u2026 I technically planned my own proposal trip. We were in Penang on a getaway that I organised. Hotel? I booked it. Itinerary? I planned it. Restaurants? I did the research. We had dinner at a very fancy place. After that, I confidently declared that I wanted lok-lok.<\/i> Very important.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Suddenly he became strange. Slightly stressed, slightly angsty. \u201cNo, we need to go back to the hotel.\u201d He said he needed to do work. On holiday. At night. Very suspicious. Then when we reached the hotel, he suddenly said, \u201cActually\u2026 can we check out the rooftop bar across first?\u201d<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"

“Sir. Why are you being so suspicious?” At this point I had a small inkling of what was to come. We went up, and he had rented the entire rooftop bar. With a photographer. With the full romantic set-up. Lights, flowers, everything. Apparently, he had been stressed because the set-up had already been completed at 8pm, but our course dinner had dragged on until 9pm. So there was absolutely no time for lok-lok<\/I>. Then, I understood the angst. The proposal is more important than lok-lok<\/i>. Fine.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"

Where was your wedding venue and why did you choose it?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

We chose Fico, and honestly, we still cannot believe how lucky we were. From the moment we stepped in, it felt like being transported to Italy. Effortlessly elegant. Warm. Relaxed but refined. The vibes were immaculate. The food? Out of this world.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

But what truly blew us away was the generosity of the team. We had brought in our own flowers. So technically, the restaurant was not obligated to help us with any of the arrangements. That was completely on us. But on the actual day, Steven, the restaurant manager, was still found running around, filling vases with water and helping us to arrange the flowers. It wasn’t part of his job scope. Yet there he was, moving tables, adjusting set-ups, making sure everything looked beautiful. Just wow. The effort was unreal.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

And the food. Oh my goodness, the food. There was so much good food that people could not stop raving about it. Every single dish was amazing. Not one \u201cjust okay\u201d dish. Guests were messaging us after the wedding, saying it was one of the best wedding meals they had ever had.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

When we mentioned to Jeremmy Chiam, the General Manager, that a few guests were unable to consume beef, he immediately said he would include some pork dishes in the menu instead. We thought the amendment would only apply to those specific tables. But no. He included the extra course for all the tables. Just like that. No fuss. No hesitation. How sweet is that? It was generosity beyond our expectations.<\/p>\"\"\"\"

All the servers that day were incredibly attentive and kind. They were constantly checking in on guests, making sure everyone was comfortable and well-fed. At one point, some of the waitresses were running around, helping us take Polaroids. Who does that? They genuinely felt like part of the celebration.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

We are especially grateful to Jeremmy, who went above and beyond from the very beginning. He was thoughtful, reassuring, and so guest-focused. What truly touched us was the fact that despite his spine injury, he still came down personally on the day to check in, gifting us a bottle of wine. That level of care meant the world to us. Everything about Fico was amazing. The food, the service, the heart behind it. You really do not find such genuine service and nice people like this anywhere else. It did not feel like a venue. It felt like a team of people who wanted our day to be perfect, just as much as we did. If we could relive the day again, we would choose Fico a hundred times over.<\/p>\"Fico\"\"Fico\"\"Fico\"\"Fico\"\"Fico\"

Did you have a wedding theme?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Not really. But we had two very important VIP guests\u2014our two big golden girls. They were extremely happy to be there. Probably more excited than some of the guests. Honestly, they stole the spotlight. So I guess the theme was “Elegant Italian wedding\u2026 plus dogs.\u201d<\/p>\"Fico\"\"Fico\"\"Fico\"\"Fico\"\"Fico\"

What was your wedding day like?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Ching Wen:<\/I> Our wedding day was full of drama. Netflix-level. When we arrived, the clouds were dark and scary. Within 10 minutes, it started pouring. Thunder and everything. I was internally panicking. But my photographer Dexter and my husband Jonathan, were completely calm. They just said, \u201cNever mind, we’ll shoot indoors first.\u201d Then, about an hour later, the rain stopped as if it were a scene from a K-drama. The sun came out just as guests started arriving. Golden light, perfect timing. Main character energy.<\/p>

All in all, it was emotional. Dramatic. Slightly traumatised by the weather. But perfect. There were nerves. There was rain. There was relief when the sun came out. And there was so much love.<\/p>\"Fico\"\"Fico\"\"Fico\"

What did family and friends have to say about your wedding?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Our friends and family continuously said it felt very much like \u201cus.\u201d Relaxed. Intimate. Good food. Good vibes. Slight but controlled chaos.<\/p>

What was the most memorable moment of the wedding?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Ching Wen:<\/I> Seeing him at the end of the aisle. All the thunder, the stress, the planning, everything just faded. It was just the two of us. Also memorable: realising that the rain did not ruin anything. It just gave us a better story.<\/p>\"Fico\"\"Fico\"\"Fico\"Fico\"\"\"Fico\"

Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Ching Wen:<\/I> Something will go wrong. Confirm-plus-chop. It might rain. The schedule might shift. Someone might forget something. But if you remember why you’re there, those things will not matter. And if your partner suddenly refuses to let you eat lok-lok<\/i> and insists on going back to the hotel urgently\u2026just trust him.<\/p>\"Fico\"\"Fico\"\"Fico\"\"Fico\"
