Western, Chinese and Indian wedding ceremony traditions were harmoniously blended in Dionne and Vasu’s union on the lush island of Bali.<\/i><\/p>

C<\/b>ontent creator Dionne and lawyer Vasu first crossed paths in their tender childhood, before becoming best friends and eventually romantic partners. The vibrant celebrations that involved traditions and customs from each of their ethnic cultures were a hit amongst friends and family, with the key to its smooth success being none other than open, honest communication with and support from loved ones.<\/p> \"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

How did the both of you meet?<\/b><\/b> <\/p>

We were classmates in primary school, and then properly reconnected in Secondary 3. We continued to stay in each other’s lives throughout JC, Army and finally university which was when we officially got together. We\u2019ve been best friends for almost half of our lives. It always felt comfortable and familiar, like picking up a conversation that never really ended.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What is it about your partner that you love the most?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Vasu:<\/i> With Dionne, it\u2019s the way she loves\u2014patient, kind, and always putting us first. She has this steady, genuine warmth that makes life feel lighter, and she believes in me in a way that pushes me to be better every day.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"

Dionne:<\/i> With Vasu, it\u2019s how intentional and passionate he is about literally everything he cares about. He notices the small things, puts real thought into the people he loves, and when he talks about something he\u2019s excited about, he can go on forever with this fire in his eyes. It\u2019s one of the first things I fell in love with\u2014that mix of heart, enthusiasm, and wanting to give his best in everything he does.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"

What was the moment that made you realise that he\/she was the one for you?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

It wasn\u2019t one single moment\u2014over time it just became very clear that this was the person we didn\u2019t want to do life without, and no one else even came close to that feeling.<\/p>\"\"\"\"

Where was your wedding venue and why did you choose it?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Our wedding planner, Juji from J\u2019adore Wedding & Event, really took the time to understand us, and the moment she suggested Puri Bhagawan in Jimbaran, we were sold. The space was open, warm, and big enough for both our Western and Indian ceremonies without feeling cramped or formal. The view was incredible, and the Vivre team\u2019s food was amazing\u2014everything just came together perfectly.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What was the mood of the reception like?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

It was lively, colourful, and honestly just very fun. We trusted Juji fully with the planning, and the pacing of the day was spot on. The Balinese performances she recommended were a hit with everyone, and the fireworks ended up being one of the biggest highlights for the guests.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

How did you decide which traditions from each culture to include?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

We kept the traditions that mattered to our families and to us, and simplified anything that felt too symbolic or \u201cfor the sake of it\u201d. We also added our own twist to various wedding elements\u2014for example, instead of Vasu arriving with the baraat alone, everyone walked together from the \u201cgroom\u2019s house\u201d to the venue. It felt more like a celebration than a procession.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Were there any challenges during the wedding planning process when merging two different sets of customs and ceremonies?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Honestly, no. We were very lucky that both our families were involved and supportive from the start of the relationship. Being upfront with everyone and making decisions together kept the whole process surprisingly smooth.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What was it like for each of you to participate in wedding customs from your partner\u2019s culture?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Vasu:<\/i> The gate crash and tea ceremony were chaotic and very fun. The gate crash gave me and my groomsmen such a good chance to bond\u2014we wouldn\u2019t trade that for anything. And the tea ceremony was such a meaningful moment for us to honour both our families. It was especially special for my family because it was their first time experiencing it, and they loved being part of something so important in Dionne\u2019s culture.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Dionne:<\/i> The baraat and the full Hindu wedding ceremony brought so much colour, joy, and emotion into the night, and they became some of my favourite parts of the entire day. It was a deeply meaningful process, and it meant a lot to see everyone fully take part in a traditional ceremony together\u2014we also prepared dupattas for all our guests so they could feel included as we honoured Vasu\u2019s culture properly. Even though the pandit conducted the ceremony entirely in Sanskrit (which neither of us understood), he paused throughout to translate the important parts into English for everyone. And only then did we realise how sweet and beautiful the meanings behind each step truly were. It made the whole experience incredibly special for all of us.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"

How did the both of you help family and guests be involved with and better understand the fusion of wedding customs from both cultures?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

We kept explanations simple, prepared booklets that walked people through the customs, and had mini games and activities throughout the day. The whole programme was easy to follow, and once guests understood what was happening, they fully embraced it.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"

Tell us more about your traditional wedding outfits!<\/b><\/b><\/p>

We had four outfits each throughout the day: traditional Chinese xiu he fu and ma gua for the gate crash and tea ceremony, a white gown and cream suit for the Western vows, a custom-made lehenga and sherwani for the Indian ceremony, and a cocktail dress and suit for the reception.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What did family and friends have to say about your wedding?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

They told us it felt personal, meaningful, and genuinely exciting from start to finish. Mostly, they just had a great time\u2014which meant a lot to us.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Definitely the sunset during the baraat and the start of the Indian ceremony. It had drizzled earlier in the day, so we were worried it\u2019d be cloudy\u2014but the sky opened up and gave us the most beautiful sunset we\u2019ve ever seen.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What is one piece of advice you\u2019d like to share with other couples currently planning an inter-cultural wedding?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Choose the traditions that actually matter to both of you, and keep communication honest with your families. It makes everything smoother, clearer, and way less stressful.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Did you use SingaporeBrides as a wedding resource?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Yes, mainly for venue research and seeing how other couples blended cultures. We also had a second ROM and ceremony in Singapore later in the month, and we used SingaporeBrides a lot more for venue hunting and planning for that.<\/p>
