We catch up with the creator of this romantic and whimsical proposal, inspired by a pastel-dream proposal across the world that broke the Internet, and her models.<\/i><\/p>

W<\/b>hen florist and stylist Liz of Liz Florals<\/a> first saw the viral images of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce\u2019s engagement, her eyes went straight past the ring and landed on what set the Internet ablaze for her\u2014the florals. The soft pink-and-white palette, the immersive garden backdrop, the romance of it all. \u201cI\u2019ve been a Swiftie since the days of Love Story<\/i>,\u201d Liz shared. \u201cWhile everyone was talking about the ring, my eyes immediately went to the flowers!\u201d<\/p>

That sparked an idea: What if we re-imagined that moment here in Singapore?<\/I><\/p>

Inspired, Liz assembled a dream team of vendors and favourite power couple Rachel Wan and Edwin Goh to re-imagine that floral moment in her own way, with pastel tones, whimsical textures, and a touch of Singapore woven in at the new Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree. We speak to Liz as she shares her vision for the styled shoot in detail, and find out how much Rachel and Edwin enjoyed the shoot as Swifties.<\/p>

Liz, tell us more about your vision for this styled shoot and how this team of creatives and couple help bring this concept to life.<\/b><\/b><\/p>

The key was to re-create an inspired proposal setup that felt true to the couple\u2019s love for Taylor Swift while grounding it authentically in Singapore. It wasn’t about replicating the proposal, but about capturing the softness and sincerity of the moment. Instead of copying the original proposal, my team and I reimagined what it might look like if it happened here \u2014 in a setting that reflects the couple\u2019s story and our local landscape.<\/p>

That\u2019s why we chose the lush rainforest environment of Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree. The gorgeous tropical greenery and the soft, natural backdrop allowed us to echo the romantic garden backdrop in Taylor\u2019s proposal in a distinctly Singaporean way. The rainforest, the textures of nature, and the surrounding skyline all became part of the narrative.<\/p>

I’ve always been a fan of Rachel and Edwin’s beautiful relationship and the warmth they share and show each other, and the fact that she was also a Swiftie made them an easy “Yes!” for me. I also love the fact that Rachel crocheted the bouquet ribbon herself, adding so much character and personality to the arrangement.<\/p>

I’ve long been a fan of Gentle in White’s classic yet romantic silhouettes. I believed that their gowns would add an elegant softness of the overall aesthetic. Jose Daniel Retrato is a celebrity photographer known for his editorial style and Autelier Makeup has been one of Singapore’s most established makeup team for years, so having them both onboard was a natural choice. As the only property in Singapore that fully immerses you in the rainforest landscape, Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree was the perfect choice for this concept.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Tell us about the floral palette. What colours, textures, and blooms did you choose and why?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Overall, the palette was gentle and romantic, grounded by colour transitions and textural contrast. We kept to the same romantic pink-and-white palette, and softened it with layered tones \u2014 blush, dusty pinks, whites, soft lilac and natural greens. This palette captures the dreamy quality of Taylor’s proposal, while still feeling fresh against the tropical backdrop.<\/p>

For blooms, we selected flowers that echoed the original aesthetic: roses, lisianthus, delphiniums and hydrangeas. Each bloom brought a different texture \u2014 the long, airy lines of delphiniums contrasted beautifully with the rounder, fuller shapes of roses and lisianthus. Using blooms of different shapes created visual depth and a natural, effortlessly layered effect.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Were any specific styling techniques used to create the concept and complement the location?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Yes, the styling was intentionally adapted to complement the rainforest setting. We worked with an airy, naturalistic composition style, allowing the arrangements to feel like they were part of the landscape rather than placed onto it.<\/p>

We also kept the arrangements low and intimate, so the rainforest and skyline could remain as part of the backdrop. This balance between structured florals and natural surroundings created an immersive, believable reimagining of the proposal aesthetic.<\/p>\"\"\"\"

What were the challenges you faced during this shoot?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

It was definitely the elements. The floral set-up took place under hot conditions without shelter, so my team and I prepared by bringing water tubes for more delicate blooms like hydrangeas, and kept a pail of water nearby to store flowers as we worked.<\/p>

The wind was another factor we had to manage. To keep the arrangement stable, we used weights to secure the frame and ensure everything stayed in place throughout the setup. These small technical steps made a big difference in keeping the florals fresh and the structure steady.<\/p>

We were also hoping that the weather would be on our side, and thankfully, the skies held up. Even though we didn\u2019t get the golden sunset we wanted, the soft, cloudy light created a beautiful atmosphere. In the end, we made the most of it \u2014 and the setting looked incredible against the rainforest backdrop.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

As a fellow Swiftie, Rachel was excited to be part of Liz’s vision of a romantic, pastel-hued styled shoot inspired by Taylor Swift’s dreamy engagement moment. From that very first briefing, Rachel and Edwin knew that this styled shoot was something special. They share their thoughts and experience with us.<\/p>

What made you say “Yes!” to being part of this whimsical styled shoot?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rachel<\/i>: I’ve been a fan of Taylor Swift since I was 13 years old, so I was beyond excited when Liz invited us to be part of her vision. It was so meaningful and absolutely amazing that I get to be in my engagement era the same time as Taylor Swift!<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What was the overall experience like for you, and how did the romantic, whimsical styling and concept of the shoot make you feel or resonate with your relationship?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Both<\/i>: We loved how it looked and felt like a fairytale because that\u2019s how we feel about our relationship. It feels like a dream and we actually often question each other – \u201cIs this real? Are you real??\u201d. We felt like a big aspect of our love (the dreamy, fairytale feeling) was encapsulated in the colour choices and styling of the florals by Liz Florals. Everything was so carefully placed, the flowers she picked complimented each other so well. Her floral styling absolutely created the vibe of the entire shoot!<\/p>

Rachel<\/i>: I truly felt like a princess in my dress from Gentle in White. The delicate floral motifs flowed so effortlessly with the entire theme – it was as if the gown was designed just for this fairytale. It brought a softness and elegance that tied every detail together.<\/p>

Edwin<\/i>: My suit from Common Suits couldn\u2019t have been more perfect. The earthy green tone was rich, refined, and grounded the whole look in a really timeless way. It added the exact vibe we envisioned for the shoot.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Was there a particular moment during the shoot that felt especially “you” or magical?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rachel<\/i>: When we were on one of the roof tops and Jose as a level above us taking an aerial shot, that was absolutely cinematic. We just knew he was capturing magic. Also, I literally fell in love with the work done by Sheila, our hair and makeup artist for the shoot. I\u2019m usually very picky about my hair and makeup styling, and I don\u2019t trust many hair and makeup artists. I even considered doing my own makeup for my actual day wedding! But she made me feel like such a beautiful version of myself, in a way I could never do by myself, and I actually booked her after the shoot for my actual day!<\/p>

Edwin<\/i>: There wasn\u2019t anything in particular that stood out to me, because every element of the shoot blended so well together – from the florals, dress and suit, photography style, hair and make up – everything was so cohesive and the end results really speak for itself. And the location too!<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Did you encounter any challenges during the shoot?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Both<\/i>: Shooting in Singapore has always been challenging due to the weather. Thankfully my suit from Common Suits is linen based, making it really breathable for Edwin. The location helped a lot too, as it was surrounded by a reservoir, so, naturally a lot of breeze were present. Having a photographer who is quick and decisive also helped tremendously as we did not have to spend too much time trying to get the shot.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Any words of advice for couples seeking similar photos that feel dreamy, intentional, yet uniquely “them”?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Both<\/i>: Just stick with this team – they’ll be able to recreate the same professionalism and vibe with their skills and specialties.<\/p>

If you could describe the shoot in one word or phrase, what would it be?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Edwin<\/i>: Blissful, straightforward, and smooth. It reminded me on how being with Rachel feels like. And I just want our wedding to flow this way too!<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"
