Things happen, even on the wedding day. In a high-spirited celebration held at Artyzen Singapore, Yu Rong and Tzin show us how to truly take things in blissful stride despite mishaps that may ensue.<\/i><\/p>

<\/ins><\/div>

T<\/b>he wedding of YES 933 DJ Yu Rong and her husband Tzin held in October stood testament to their loving bond and devotion to each other. Despite chaotic mishaps such as lost wedding bands and missed march-in cues on the actual day, the powerhouse couple who planned and executed the celebration largely on their own were chirpy from the get-go and continuously found joy in every moment. Held in Quenino at Artyzen Singapore<\/a>, the once-in-a-lifetime event left them feeling blessed, appreciative and more in love than ever. <\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

How did the two of you meet?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rong:<\/i> We met in NUS back in 2016, Tzin was in business school and I was in communications; he took a communications elective and we were classmates for that one semester. As we were in different groups, we did not have the chance to interact at all, but the entire class became Facebook friends at the end of the semester.<\/p>

In 2020, I was feeling very grateful for all the birthday wishes I had received and wanted to pass it on. Noticing on Facebook that it was Tzin\u2019s birthday a day after mine (with a 4 year difference), I put a little more effort into crafting a more heartfelt Facebook wall wish. Tzin thought it was rather sincere (it was only two lines but you know, Facebook wishes) and replied to the wish. I responded, with no intentions whatsoever and Tzin thought it\u2019d be better not to continue the conversation on his public wall. So he slid into my DMs, or so I\u2019d like to say, to reply just out of courtesy. After several slow replies, we realised we could vibe pretty well and the messages became longer and more frequent. We decided to just meet, and that was that; we\u2019d never thought we\u2019d ever be together back in 2016, so fate really is amazing. <\/p>

Tzin:<\/i> Yep, the reply was out of courtesy.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What is it about your partner that you love the most?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rong:<\/i> The unexpected moment that I fell for him was during a simple stroll in the park, when he reacted really quickly to something I said, and I thought: “This is the wittiest person I\u2019ve ever met,” and that our future together would be filled with humour and laughter. Gradually, I grew to love and appreciate how he understands me so well. He\u2019s funny, charismatic and super sociable; he\u2019s the logical, rational, number-savvy calm to my emotional, super sentimental and overthinking storm; he always puts me first and uses actions to prove it; he was with me every step of the way and is truly the anchor in our relationship\u2014through my very difficult job transition, when my family underwent tough times, when I was drowning in stress and self-doubt, through rough spots in our relationship. I love how we can be wacky together and how I can simply be fully myself and be at ease with him.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Tzin:<\/i> I love that Rong is the only person who will promptly reply or react to all the Reels I send on Instagram, and how we will scroll through Reels together at night before we sleep. But more importantly, I love how she feels like home to me.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"

What was the moment that made you realise that he\/she was the one for you?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rong:<\/i> It\u2019s really an accumulation of many small moments and our time together that made me sure he\u2019s the one for me, especially when we got stronger through the downs in our relationship. If there is one moment which dawned on me that this guy might be the family man I was looking for, it\u2019d probably be how he said he would choose his mum\u2019s cooking when I asked what last meal he’d want to have if it were our last day on earth. <\/p>\"\"\"\"

Tzin:<\/i> No specific moment, but just being able to picture a future of living together everyday, coming home to her, going to bed every night together, waking up next to her every morning, seeing the world together, and the idea of just doing life together till we\u2019re old\u2014she\u2019s the first person that I would think of to go through all these with.<\/p>\"\"\"\"

Tell us about your proposal.<\/b><\/b><\/p>

On the 24th of May 2024, Tzin brought Rong to Seongsan Ilchulbong, or ‘Sunrise Peak’, in Jeju. Rong didn’t think a proposal was going to happen, because they typically aren’t sunrise people and their friends ‘pangseh-ed’ at the last minute.<\/p>\"\"\"\"

The morning of, Tzin was abnormally patient with Rong, even telling her to curl her hair when she asked if there was time. Rong was surprised but didn’t question much, just in case Tzin would start to rush her like he normally would. Tzin even wore a new top and jacket. Rong asked, “Why you wear until so oppa today?” and believed without a doubt when Tzin replied that it was because it might be cold on the mountaintop. In retrospect, Rong realised that she’s really easy to bluff.<\/p>\"\"\"\"

Before the hike, Tzin took a wefie of them to send to the photographer (who climbed up much earlier, bless him!) and once again, Rong didn’t suspect a thing. Just minutes before the 5.28am sunrise, Tzin quietly took out the ring box from his bag to transfer it into his pocket, only for the ring box to fall out right in front of Rong! Rong asked, “What’s that?” and the only thing Tzin could think of to reply was “What is<\/i> that ah??”. Rong burst out laughing and Tzin gave up trying to keep the secret, turning to the inconspicuous photographer behind them to say, “Let’s just carry on, she already knows.” He then proceeded to propose and Rong obviously said “yes”, all while laugh-crying because it was hilarious and very them.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Where was your wedding venue and why did you choose it as the place to wed?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Artyzen Singapore. To be specific, we wanted an “alternative space” and Rong chanced upon Quenino, the Michelin Guide restaurant under Artyzen Singapore, online and loved how it\u2019s a nice space for a maximum of 70 pax, which was an ideal size for us. It was well-lit, had a great shape free of obstruction and the food was crazy good. Then we realised it was at a hotel, loved the botanical, Balinese vibe of the outdoor deck\u2014complete with a high ceiling, offering both shelter, natural sunlight and nature. We ended up working with the hotel for our wedding, instead of just the restaurant. The hotel also gave us a super nice space for hair, make-up, and private moment, which was wonderful. We also came to know that we were the first couple to hold our wedding there, which was such an honour. It was so fun working with the amazing Artyzen team to plan for our wedding together! <\/p>\"\"\"\"

Did you have a wedding theme?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

There wasn\u2019t so much of an official theme, but we knew we wanted it to be chill, fun, different from the hotel banquet, template weddings we commonly experience, and most importantly, an opportunity to let our guests and vendors know how much we cherish and appreciate them for being with us, so social interactions became our utmost priority. We think we managed to achieve it and are just so glad to have shared the day with our closest loved ones. We communicated with the Artyzen Singapore team very closely\u2014super grateful that the process felt like all parties were embarking on a project together. We were firm on doing things our way and in the most Tzin-Rong style, e.g. hosting our own wedding, and having really silly march-in and out music. We gave ourselves a lot of mental prep prior to the wedding, believing that what\u2019s meant to be will be and deciding to just live in the moment and take everything in our stride, whatever might happen.<\/p>\"\"\"\"

What was the day like and how were you feeling?.<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rong:<\/i> It felt like a demonstration of Murphy\u2019s Law, whatever that can go wrong, will go wrong. On Rong\u2019s side, the morning started off in a really chaotic manner, totally not as elegant as all the bridal photos depicted. My family and I left together, huffing and puffing while carrying all our barang-barang to the car, and the door was slammed onto my forehead on accident during what should have been a very heartwarming send-off. The wedding car florals fell off along the highway. Upon reaching the hotel separately, Tzin had to immediately get down to business, making sure everything was in place while directing a technical run. The morning really wasn\u2019t glamorous at all. <\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Just as we thought that there would be no more mishaps, the worst thing that could happen during a wedding, happened. Our rings went missing and we would only be able to find them after the wedding ended. It was a whole situation\u2014Tzin frantically searched for them, his sister & brother-in-law rushed all the way home to search too, and missed the solemnisation. The solemnisation was also pushed back by quite a bit due to this unforeseen circumstance. Only after the solemnisation did Tzin muster up the courage to explain what had happened and the real reason why we used different rings, and that the rings exchanged were actually my parents\u2019. These weren\u2019t the only things we lost during the wedding\u2014we lost our vow cards too. Though they were found after the wedding, it was only several hours later and we were both so sad while desperately searching for them.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Besides these, I missed my cue to march-in because it was my first time hearing the surprise march-in song Tzin prepared for me. What should have been a magical moment ended up with me yelling from upstairs, \u201cHuh? I can walk in now? \u2026 Oh okay!\u201d and Tzin having to wing it in order to get things going. The whole situation was hilarious.<\/p>

But, we didn\u2019t let these topsy-turvy matters get to us during the wedding, and remained fully committed to enjoying each other\u2019s and our loved ones\u2019 company! We genuinely had loads of fun, laughter, and happy tears, and it was such a love-filled day that we\u2019ll remember forever. <\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Tzin:<\/i> And at the end of it, we were really grateful to have a 2-night stay at the hotel to properly digest our emotions and everything that happened. Looking through the messages from our guests and seeing some of the raw actual-day photos made us feel so blessed. All in all, if we had to use one word to describe everything\u2014thankful.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"

What did your family\/friends have to say about your wedding day? <\/b><\/b><\/p>

It seems like they enjoyed it. They thought the venue was beautiful and that the food was delicious. What we were really grateful for, was them telling us they never knew a wedding could be held this way, filled with so much personal touch, interactions and personality. That was all we wanted our wedding to be\u2014filled with fun, love and conducted in the manner that was most “us”. Through all the little details, we just hope our guests know how much we love them. And well, how Singaporean weddings don\u2019t have to follow a cookie-cutter template, just do it your way!<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Were there any challenges that you faced during the wedding planning or the wedding itself, and how did you both overcome them? <\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rong:<\/i> Everything that happened above was definitely a shock to us! We were also very set on not troubling our friends to help much\u2014possibly because as a wedding vendor myself, I find it impossible to properly enjoy the wedding if I have a job on hand, and we were aligned with how we just wanted our loved ones to have fun. While this was achieved, we took on almost everything by ourselves, which resulted in the above mishaps, and had to do quite a bit of “saikang” ourselves prior and even during the wedding! But no regrets though! Having a mindset of “que sera, sera” is key to overcoming these\u2014we made our decisions, so just stick by them, YOLO so have fun!<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

During the planning phase, we had to sort out the differences we had in expectations. Tzin didn\u2019t want to have a wedding at first, so we agreed on a cosy wedding. Also, I felt like I had a lot on my shoulders, and as an overthinker, I was constantly worried about whether Tzin would be okay with what we were doing, but this was solved by just communicating more. Tzin also showed through actions that I was not alone in this. The fact that we were working completely different hours\u2014Tzin\u2019s 9-6 on weekdays, me being on night shift and working on weekends too\u2014made coming together to discuss the planning really difficult too, but we overcame it by just working on things separately in our own ways, and setting time aside to update each other. <\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"

Logistics-wise, it was the first wedding at Artyzen, so there were some things that required ironing out. For example, the restaurant\u2019s sound system was not equipped for a wedding set-up at first, but the Artyzen team is amazing. They really listened to us, understood what was required for a wedding, and worked closely with us to ensure everything would turn out fine, including updating their sound infrastructure just for the wedding. They provided their meeting rooms as a nice activity area for our guests, and stayed late with us the day before to set up the whole place. They also worked with us individually and in secret (since we each had surprises for the other), which was actually extra work on their end, but they never once complained. When we were trying to find our rings and vow cards, they even spent hours with us looking up CCTV footage to potentially trace the items. We are so grateful towards the team.<\/p>\"\"\"\"

Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding? <\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rong:<\/i> It\u2019d probably be the missing rings. Others would include my dog Percy being our ringbearer, who absolutely nailed his role; Tzin giving me a Psyduck Pok\u00e9mon card as part of his vows and me going, “Is it the stupid one?\u2019 when he told me to guess which Pok\u00e9mon it was as it reminded him of me. A bonus for me would definitely be Tzin tearing up quite a few times that day, because man rarely does.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"

Tzin:<\/i> Just being in the same room at the same moment with everyone, not just to celebrate the love of Yu Rong and I, but also to celebrate families and friendships that mean so much to us.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What is one piece of advice you\u2019d like to share with other couples currently planning their wedding?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rong: <\/i>It\u2019s your wedding and it\u2019s once in a lifetime, so just do you! And don\u2019t stress so much on the day, everything will be fine so long as you set your mind to it. Oh, and take note of small items like rings, PLEASE.<\/p>\"\"

Tzin:<\/i> Happy wife happy life. There will always be disagreements along the wedding planning process, but remember that you and your partner are a team. Lastly, enjoy the process along the way!<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"
