Rebecca and Kin decided to host their wedding in Bali so that their Singaporean and Norwegian family and friends can enjoy a laid-back wedding surrounded by beautiful scenery.<\/i><\/p>

<\/ins><\/div>

R<\/b>ebecca Eu, 31, founder of Mei’s Own<\/a>, met Kin Hui, 32, Project Engineer of BW Group, met online but only after changing her name from Rebecca to Jenny. Being the scion of the Eu Yan Sang family and having many notable achievements of her own must have attracted much unwanted attention. Kin’s sincerity and quiet, giving nature finally moved Rebecca, and she said “Yes!” while they were on a road trip in Norway.<\/p>

With many of Kin’s friends wanting to travel to Asia for the wedding and Rebecca not wanting to have it in Singapore, the couple decided to host about 200 of their family and friends at AYANA Resort Bali. As the creative one of the two, Rebecca designed not only the wedding stationery and favours, but also part of the wedding venue to resemble a colonial-style greenhouse, complete with figurines of frogs and chickens to personalise it further. How did the two of you meet?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rebecca<\/i>: We met online in 2021 during the pandemic. I had just moved back from Manila and was under some (a lot) of pressure from my mom to find a husband haha. After some weird online dating encounters, I decided to change my online profile name to Jenny and I met Kin. I was a little nervous on our first date but thankfully he didn\u2019t bolt for the door.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What do you love most about your partner?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

Rebecca<\/i>: I love his kindness, his heart and his belief in me. One of the most moving moments to me was when I was complaining about how bad the food was at an event I was at, and he casually told me to let him know when I was heading home. When I got back, I found him folding dumplings for me to make up for my non-dinner. He does things like that, just observing and listening, then getting things done for me. It\u2019s such a quiet and moving kind of love.<\/p>

What was the proposal like?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

The first time he proposed, we were on a road trip exploring Norway (where he was born and raised), and we were staying at a quiet cabin near the Fjords. He prepared a simple meal and got down on one knee, making a small speech about our future together. He designed the proposal ring with an icy blue sapphire and we designed the engagement ring together afterwards. It is a 2.25ct Old European Cut Lab Grown Diamond flanked by two pear-shaped lab diamonds. Kin\u2019s birthday happens to be on the 25th of February.<\/p>

During a really tough period while I was starting my second business, Rinn, I told him I didn\u2019t really “feel like a bride”. I came home one day to him proposing again! He printed out a bunch of photos of us and had the cheesy rose petals arranged in a heart shape and got down on one knee again so I could properly feel like a bride.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

Where did you choose to hold your wedding and why?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

I chose Bali because I really didn\u2019t want to have a wedding in Singapore. I knew that if I did, it would be easily be a banquet of 500 persons or more. Ideally I would have chosen to have it in Norway, but most venues could only hold up to 100 guests. If I held it overseas, I was expecting at least 200 guests but that\u2019s still better than hosting 500 of my parents’ friends, right?<\/p>

Many of Kin\u2019s Norwegian friends also wanted to come to Asia, so we thought of Bali since both groups\u2014Singaporeans and Norwegians\u2014would enjoy the laid-back experience. Bali also has a very established wedding industry, and I had a very clear vision in mind for my wedding set up. Bali is also really beautiful and had all the right ingredients for a festive wedding week!<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What was your wedding theme and how did you create it?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

The best piece of advice I got for my wedding theme was to pick an interior design style and build around it. I really wanted to emulate the colonial black and white houses in Singapore as I think there is a very timeless tropical charm to them. I also love frogs, art and music so I had to find a way to weave all of that into the wedding. We had beautiful brass frogs and chicken figurines around the marquee and I designed the front to look like a colonial-style greenhouse. We had the classic black and white checkered floor and many chandeliers. We also designed a little kid\u2019s marquee because we had so many children at the wedding! They had a great time.<\/p>

On the morning of the wedding, I woke up quite early to get my hair and makeup done with my bridesmaids and took photos with Kin and my family. We had the ceremony and then the tea ceremony followed by the dinner reception and after-party.<\/p>

For the ceremony, we built a little English garden-style temple where my eldest brother, Richie, officiated our vows. We were surrounded by white and green flowers and foliage. My favourite outfit was a kua that was once worn by my great-grandmother. It’s about 100 years old and embroidered with silver and gold thread. I wasn\u2019t allowed to eat anything in it! It was for our tea ceremony.<\/p>

I also designed all of the bridesmaid dresses to reflect each of my friends\u2019 characters. I really like the mismatched bridesmaid dresses theme that came up in the last couple of years. It just looks better in photos and less staged. I designed all of the wedding stationary and I also made greeting cards for our guests using Norway, Singapore, frogs and chickens as my inspiration. I really love to draw, as you can see.<\/p>\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"\"

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?<\/b><\/b><\/p>

I think the most memorable moment for me was our ceremony, walking down the aisle with my dad and saying our vows by the cliff. It was very romantic and truly the highlight of the day because it felt intimate and “just us two” even though there were so many other humans at the wedding.<\/p>
