Jacqueleen and Roy’s Intimate Wedding at Sinfonia Ristorante
Roy and Jacqueleen’s simple and laidback personalities shone through with a memorable and heartfelt wedding with their loved ones at Sinfonia Ristorante.
Roy, 29, Self-Employed Digital Marketer, and Jacqueleen, 31, Head of Quality Management Division, laid eyes on each other during their Polytechnic days. They began talking on MSN and the rest was history! As a simple and laidback couple, they wanted a cosy and intimate wedding to celebrate their union with friends and family. With a splash of Jacqueleen’s fun personality and the gorgeous aesthetics of Sinforia Ristorante, they created the intimate wedding of their dreams!
Tell us a little bit about your story.
Jacqueleen: We first met each another at a Soka event at Sentosa during our Polytechnic days. I was attracted to him with his long hair back then and asked for his email address from his friend so I can add him on MSN. I’ve never believed that a guy must always be the one to make the first move.
After chatting for a few weeks, I left Singapore for my Polytechnic internship in Bangkok. We continued to chat on MSN for another two months before he asked me to be his girlfriend (I happened to be his first girlfriend!) through video call. In those days, things were simpler. Social media wasn’t that intrusive or integrated into our daily lives. Even though we weren’t that interconnected back then, I still feel that those connections were so much more genuine and personal. We have been together for approximately 10 years now.
What did you love most about your partner? What made you fall in love with your partner?
Jacqueleen: He’s that type of guy who learned how to cook carbonara (my comfort food) for me even though he hated the smell of cream and cheese. He’s also that type of guy who needs to think for days whether to buy a $20 shirt for himself but will take less than a few seconds to buy a Chanel purse for me. He always gives me the best in life and I feel so blessed to be loved by him.
Most importantly, not only does he always makes me laugh (I will always laugh till my stomach hurts), but he is also always there for me whenever I’m down, always ready to cheer me up at any cost.
Roy: She is completely different from the other women whom I have met in the past. When we used to chat on MSN back then, we used to draw pictures using one of its functions. There was once when I drew the moon and she drew the star at the same time. It was in that moment that I knew that she was the one.
She stood by me when I had only two coins to rub together and saw me through all the in-betweens till I am where I am now. She always gives me the support (both moral and mental support) whenever I need it. She is also someone I can confide in – she is my best friend.
What was the proposal like?
Jacqueleen: We were on holiday in Hokkaido during the Sakura season. While walking around Nakajima Park in our kimonos one afternoon, he suddenly kneeled down behind a bush (yes, behind a bush… because he was too shy to kneel down in public!), took out the ring from his socks, and asked me to marry him. Not only was I shocked, but I was also amused that he had actually hid the ring in his socks! He even said that the ring had scratched his skin and caused some bleeding on his ankle. We were laughing so hard before I finally calmed myself down and agreed to marry him.
How did you create your wedding theme?
Jacqueleen: I took references and gained some inspiration from SingaporeBrides for the wedding preparations. We picked Sinfonia Ristorante as our wedding venue for its elegant Victoria-style interiors. The high ceilings and grand Corinthian columns make it a magnificent setting. Most importantly, the setting is cosy and perfect for the intimate wedding we’d always longed for.
As our pre-wedding photoshoot was taken at Jurong Lake Garden’s dreamy lalang fields, we wanted to re-create the same “setting” at our wedding venue for our guests to experience it too! We used plenty of pampas grass for the overall decorations (especially by the aisle) to add a bohemian and romantic touch in our indoor garden themed wedding.
What was your wedding day like?
Jacqueleen: We are a super lazy bride and groom! We had a really, really chill day. We skipped the traditional gatecrash in the morning and woke up at around 11am to have our brunch at home and Netflix before heading to the wedding venue in the late afternoon to prepare for the tea ceremony that was held before the dinner celebration.
It was especially emotional for me during the tea ceremony as I was brought up by my mum singlehandedly. My mum was a woman with a big heart and I had the best childhood. My maternal family, like my aunties and uncles, are like second mothers and fathers in my life too!
Surrounded by all of our loved ones as witnesses, we chose to hold our solemnisation ceremony during the wedding dinner to add a personal touch to the overall wedding concept.
In order to make our wedding memorable, I had also prepared a surprise dance performance for Roy. After the second march-in, the emcees announced that our friends had prepared a dance performance as a gift for us. Just a few seconds into the song, I quickly jumped up from my chair and joined in the dance. He was shocked and the guests were amused by the cheeky dance we performed. Everyone had a funky good time!
We also did a sparklers send-off at the lawn for our guests to light the way for our new beginning together. The sight was incredibly beautiful. The night ended with lots of happy tears, joy, laughter, and abundance of warmth and love from everyone who attended our lovely wedding.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Jacqueleen: I would say that it was the surprise dance performance I had specially prepared for Roy and the guests. Roy is a shy person and I love to tease him in front of people. His awkward face just amuses me all the time (I’m a naughty bride!).
I looked at him cheekily during the dance, and he gave me a stunned face throughout most of the performance. Furthermore, just before the end of the performance, I sat on his lap and kissed him for a “grand finale”. He even attempted to push me away because he was so awkward. Everyone laughed so hard!
