Yuen Yi and Mugant’s Intimate Wedding at The White Rabbit

A wedding at The White Rabbit is always beautiful, and Yuen Yi and Mugant’s intimate affair at this charmingly rustic venue is no different. Most people are destined to either meet once in their life or never at all, but it was in the stars for our fun-loving couple to cross paths not once, but twice in their life, sealing their fates together forever. Fate seemed to determined to bring you two together. Tell us all about it.

Yuen Yi: I first met Mugant on a scuba-diving trip back in 2008. We met again the following year at the Ministry where he worked at and where I interned at, but nothing happened until after I joined the Ministry officially in 2012. So, I guess you could say that we were fated to be together.

What was the proposal like?

Yuen Yi: It was a very spontaneous one! We were holidaying in the Gili Islands in Indonesia, and we were talking about our future after a movie session in our villa when we realised we didn’t want to spend the rest of our lives apart from one another. At that time, Mugant was working in Cairo while I was in Singapore. So, he tore a strip of leaf from a plant nearby, fashioned it into a ring, and put it on my finger!

With Mugant away most of the time, how was your wedding planning like? Did you meet with any challenges during your planning?

Yuen Yi: We made the major decisions, such as setting the wedding date and choosing the venue, when he was in Singapore for short vacations. The most hectic part of the wedding planning was the choosing and securing of vendors, but fortunately for us, we found great vendors to work with. Overall, we were blessed to have a smooth journey on our big day, although I’ll admit that I had a few ‘bridezilla’ moments when I realised my dress had not been delivered from Spain a month before the wedding.

Mugant: We opted for an intimate, non-traditional wedding, and The White Rabbit, with its rustic feel and cosy atmosphere, was perfect for us. We stuck to clean and bright colours for a fresh, summer theme to complete the look.

Take us back to your wedding day. How was it like?

Yuen Yi: I was surprisingly calm. Mugant’s groomsmen and my bridesmaids helped with a lot of the coordination on the actual day, so things worked out really perfectly and everyone had fun!

Mugant: The food and appetising dessert table that Valene set up for us was wonderful too. We rented some backyard games, such as horseshoe throwing and giant Jenga for our guests to have some fun in The White Rabbit’s garden. We also got little balloon blowing kits as well as old-school flavoured candy tins as wedding favours. And in place of the traditional guestbook, we got jigsaw puzzle pieces for our guests to sign on so we could frame them up.

Did your guests enjoy the wedding?

They enjoyed it tremendously and complimented the fact that we incorporated some personal flair into the wedding. They were also appreciative that we thought about them and introduced some fun and games into the mix.

Any memorable or special moments from the wedding that you’ll like to share with us?

Yuen Yi: While exchanging vows, I started tearing and had to pause halfway to wipe my nose. But one of the groomsmen thought I was done and started clapping! How embarassing! But, on a more positive note, the feeling of walking down the aisle with my dad is unforgettable.
