I did my Normal-IUI (without drug injection) & SO-IUI (with drug injection) @ TMC 2 months ago.

For SO-IUI, it costs me S$1600
    S$600 for Gonal F injections (2 ampoule; 75IU/day)
    S$250 for IUI procedure
    S$150 for sperm wash-up procedure
S$160 for Pregnyl injections (3x times)
    S$400 for Consultation & USG (3x times)

For Normal-IUI, it only costs me S$400
    S$250 for IUI procedure
    S$150 for sperm wash-up procedure

For SO-IUI, the total costs depend on how much injection dosage you need. For me, 75IU is the minimum amount as I don't have ovulation problem. With this dosage, i got 2 matured eggs.

Hi whynot, i really appreaciate ur reply cos really in doubt whether to go thru or not..

So in other words, IUI w/o injection BUT with oral medicine = Normal IUI while SO-IUI has injection. May i know wat is the difference bet. injection & medicine? Its purpose? How do i know which method work better for mi?

    Many thanks in advance!

In my case, Normal-IUI means no drugs taken at all to improve ovulations (no chlomid, no gonal f injections). So, i just used clear blue OPK and once it turned positive, i called the doc & my IUI was done on the same day. I did it only once, basically to prove that the "semen spillage" theory is not true in our case.

For SO-IUI, it can be done via multiple ways...either: combo of chlomid + injections or injections alone. Mine was with gonal F only, no chlomid, because i took chlomid before but it didn't work. I know KK will use combo of chlomid + puregon for 1st time IUI. But, i personally don't like their service, so i went to TMC.

You shd check with your gynae which method works better for you. My hubby & I basically had no problems at all & his sperm counts is also very high & i ovulate normally & my hormone is perfect. Our case is classified as "unexplained infertility"

I'm now seeing Dr LC Cheng @ TMC since Feb 09. He's my 4th gynae. I've gone to KK (Dr SF Loh), GlenE, Raffles Hospitals.

If you're seeing a gynae now, my advice is to switch to seek an RE (fertility specialist). A gynae is usually more experienced in handling people who are already pregnant, not ppl who want to conceive. You want someone who have handled many IUI/IVF cases because experience counts to determine the correct timing of the procedure, dosage of drugs, etc.

    Hi whynot,

Is LC Cheng a fertility specialist?

Ya, is LC Cheng a fertility specialist?

I looked for a gyane in TMC and decided on Dr. Michele Lee cuz it was stated that she has an interest in fertility issues.

    I dunno...am I barking up e wrong tree?

I'm into my 3rd cycle of Clomid liao and 2 cycles of the Pregnayl injections. Hopefully got good news but got feeling its a disappointment again lor.

My hubby oso did sperm test. Ok, except that the motility not very fantastic and the shape of the sperm fail. Like it has to be arrow-head, any other shape fail. Tat's wat my gynae says. Somemore I'm going scanning again tomorrow to check if there is implantation or something. But main thing is she wants to check if my womb lining is confirmed thin not lor. Cuz last scan she said it looks thin.

So the suggestion for next is to go straight for IVF. Cuz she thinks IUI oso no use cuz of my hubby's sperm quality, but can try if want.

Yes, LC Cheng is fertility specialist. He's in fact the director of Thomson Fertility Centre. I choose him b/c his father, WC Cheng, is v famous in IVF procedures & secondly, LC mainly handles infertility issues at TFC so he should be experienced. He's practicing at L5, TFC in the morning & at WC Cheng's clinic L1 in the afternoon. And, his staff' service is simply good..when i hv questions, i can just sms them and they'll reply within 1 hour. I couldn't find this kind of svc in the other 3 hospitals.

When i went to Raffles Hosp 2 yrs back, my hubby did the first SA and his morphology was only 4%. The gynae gave the impressions as if it's really bad & straight away recommended for us to go for IUI. She even gave my hubby some medication to improve his hormone level.

After 3 months & no good news, i went to other docs @ GlenE & KK. Both docs said 4% morphology is ok because in my hubby's case, his count is much higher than average ppl, so absolute no. is still high. Anyway, 4% based on kruger's strict criteria is quite common.

When i went to LC Cheng, his assessment was also the same that my hubby's SA is very good. So, don't bother too much about the morphology thingy...as long as the sperm counts is normal. Anyway, the morphology tends to swing slightly depending on the # of abstinence days/stress levels, etc. I find abstinence of about 7 days produce the worst morphology. The best is within 2-3 days.

    hi little_poppets...

ya...i find many gynaes state in their credentials that they hv interests in fertility.
but, the question is how many infertile patients they have handled (successful & fail)?

if they're not so experienced, then they may do trial & error in the dosage & timing. If it's succesful, then it's good. If it's not, we hv to endure the disappointments.

and after i went thru' 3 gynaes before, i also look for factors such as how attentive their staff are b/c our treatment is like a "marathon" not a "sprint"...we need all supports that we need.

Oh gosh I hate injections....IVF need to inject every morning for dunno how many days rite? I read somewhere that need to be mentally prepared lor.... How about IUI? Do I have to jab every morning too?

Is Dr. LC Cheng ex? Haiz....I "shopped" around b4 deciding on Dr. Lee. I think she's good, but just that I'm not sure if I shd look for a fertility doc or wat. She said my ovulation is ok, responded well to Clomid. But just that the problem might lie wif my hubby. Cuz of his weight and lifestyle that has affected his sperm quality.

So tat's y she suggested going for IVF straight.

How long did u wait in between b4 deciding on another gynae? I just started seeing her in Apr so shd I stay on first or change gynae liao? Gonna reach the big 3 soon...haha....and I have not dropped a single egg...keke....

for my case, i have to jab from day 2 to day 10 on my tummy, approx 10cm to the right/left of belly button.

it's a bit scary at first, but i get used to it after the first try. It's easy because you'll use the "Pen". If you're too scared, numb the area with ice first, before cleaning with alcohol & then jab. The pregnyl jab is more painful, but it's done by the nurse & it'll be on the butt. i find that if the jab is done in the middle of the butt (meaty part), it's much less painful.

For me, i've tried to conceive for 3 yrs already...i will do anything to succeed if it's still within my means. Furthermore, the "burden" lies on me now since my hubby's SA is proven to be good.

    hi little poppets,

initially i also heard that LC was more exp than others, but no leh....i did comparison already...

All the 4 gynaes i've visited @ TMC, Raffles, GlenE, KK all charge S$100 for first visit & S$70 for subsequent visit (or i think SF Loh @ KK Private Suite charge S$80 for subsequent visit) . And his ultrasound charge is cheaper than Raffles (S$60 vs S$80)

When you visit LC, you may be asked to do one cycle of monitoring (which i did) whereby i had multiple scanning in certain time intervals, blood test (hormone). it'll cost about S$700+
    1st consultation = 100
    4x consultation + scanning = S$520
    hormone blood test = 90
    progesterone blood test = 60

    errmmm.....

The doc @ raffles has interests in fertility issues but i think she handles more pregnancy than infertile couples.

I went to Dr SF Loh, he's the head of fertility dept @ KK. He's quite famous and a lot of ppl managed to conceive thru' him. But, he's very busy that he had to run 2 clinics simultaneously. A good thing about him is he's also open after 6pm on some days, but @ the Private Suite.

The doc @ GlenE is not a fertility specialist.

    hi sky,

i feel that it's better for you to go on D2 or D3 of your menses. So, if you agree to go for any treatment, he can straight away do the ultrasound scan. Otherwise, you will need to come back again on D2 or D3. Waste money & time.

the receptionist usually doesn't ask why you need to see the doc. But if they do, just tell her that you want to conceive.

For subsequent appointments, you will liaise with the nurse directly, so no need to go thru the receptionist anymore

    Hi sky,

Mi too, as advised by my GP today, to consult Dr. Charles Lim to recommend a specialist to improve my hyper-thyroid. Then, when condition did improve, perhaps he may want to start IUI? No idea yet, until i meet him tis friday. Really, hope he can work out sth for mi.

My menses came today, Gosh.. bad luck...

Thanks for ur encouragement. However, today when my GP studied my report n confirmed on my condition, i was wailing away in this room alraedy. So paiseh... guess i am too emotional and still cant believe my fate...

Anyway, good luck to you. Hope your IUI session will be successful.

    Hi sky,

Oh yah. my consultation with the endocrine specialist was not too serious but condition need to be under control was his conclusion.

On medication for a least one and a half yr before ready to conceive. Sad to say is, upon hearing that, my hubby refused to hv sex. I feel like i am a rejected good with flaws. I am rather depressed for these 2 wks, crying whenever i thought of my illness, delaying my intention of going for IUI. Been thinking shld i start my IUI treatment n was sucessful since this March consultation with m gynae, will it be better for mi now?

Avoid seaweed so i hv to endure of not eating my fav sushi ( is small matter i can still tahan...), cannot do anything strenous exercise (which i enjoy doing aerobics, kickboxing etc.. ) which i will feel very lethargic, Walking slightly faster, i will pespire a lot and feel breathless.. ~HAIZ... i tink i could not adhere to my old and freedom lifestyle already. I know it is a small matter compared to other more serious illness, but i really need time to get used only..

Sorry, i was too carried away.. Gd luck once again! Do take care too...
