Are there lengha rental shops here? I'm thinking of buying from Jinders. The ladies in my family love Jinders' collections and they seem more affordable than Stylemart.

Or I will Try to see if I can make a trip to India for the wedding shopping. Guess It's cheaper and nicer there. U have anything on mind? :)
I think Saheli Bridal has lenghas and gowns for rental.
So far I only went to Stylemart to have a look. Didn't know Jinders was more affordable. I'll go down soon! Anywhere else?

When is your big day?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and I'm so glad I came upon this after trawling the internet for a bit. Because this ROM is a small affair, I don't want to splurge too much; we're holding both church wedding in the US, and a hindu wedding back in Singapore in 2016. So I'm saving for that instead >.<" (already sweating thinking about the costs...) But now, I'm lost at where I can hold a small dinner like that without blowing a hole in my bank!

Has anyone held their ROM at Orchid Country Club's Gayatri Restaurant? I'm hoping someone can advise me if that is a good idea - since we're not looking for pomp right now. I also contacted Pandora, and they actually have some event halls/function rooms, too. So I hope I'll be able to settle the venue and deco at least. I'm freaking out a bit since it's in March and I haven't nailed down anything - I initially booked the venue at ROM itself (very smart, LOL) Now I'm scrambling to change that, since Gayatri's said they provide a simple desk for the Solemnization bit, and I thought...why not. I guess my other question/worry now is what do I wear. Is there such a thing as lengha rental at all? I still love the hindu culture, and hope I won't have to resort to a ROM dress. Does anyone know if there are places like that? I'll appreciate any bit of advise or help! Thank you so much :p

Hi! Not sure if you have found something nice to wear.. for lengha u can try saheli bridal.. a little ex but good variety! Some are kinda heavy too! but you may wanna try them out, if you havent yet!

Hi Komathi ! maybe you can started with photographers/videographers after picking your wedding location ? After which you can pick out your MUA and then look for Deco. It is important for you to go for trials prior.

Just want to share that getting a MUA to handle all your events is way cheaper than engaging different MUAs for different events. Have you guys decided on your guest list?

Hi Komathi,
Gotten your invitation cards yet? Try https://www.facebook.com/dhivyamweddingcards. Nice and cheap cards.
For MUA, I like Menaka bridal.. her tying saree is superb. Go for make up trial to see if you like them.
How about food? Is yours a temple wedding? If yes, I sincerely recommend Gokul! Eaten in many weddings and their food is delicious!

Hi Vani, do check out my photography page on FB. I've done indian weddings.
Hope can be of help to U :)

This is my page; Fiz Snapartgraphy..

Hi Vanitha,
For MUA you can try Menaka Bridal.. look for selvarani.. she is very accomodating and im sure she can advise you on the light make up preference. You must also keep in mind the photography and lightings for your make up.

Gotten your invitation cards? Truly recommend dhivyam cards - https://www.facebook.com/dhivyamweddingcards. This is in Singapore. Cheap and nice cards. Better than those in Malaysia and cheaper than India (coz of shipping cost).

Hi BTBs!

Fiance and I are planning for a late 2015 wedding (oct/nov/early dec) and are currently looking at auspicious dates. We have just started planning!!Unfortunately, it looks like the 2 temples we were looking to book are already booked solid til March 2016 (Perumal and South Bridge Mariamman).. does anyone know if there are available dates in other temples? Yishun Mariamman is our third option.

If we can't get these 2/3 temples, then we are looking to do our temple wedding in an outside location - i have read the thread and i see that SGCC and OCC are 2 options, alongside Sheraton, Ritz, Fairmont hotels. Chevrons too. Do you guys know any other options? I'm not a big fan of the spaces at Khalsa and CSC etc as they are quite cramped.

Any ideas on how to manage the traditional portion with the reception? I was thinking of having theatre seating (rows of chairs) for the traditional wedding in a smaller ballroom or smaller partition of the room, and then have the reception/buffet/food in the larger portion of the room with round tables so that the eating/food service does not disrupt the wedding proceedings. Do not want non-veg food in the traditional atmosphere as well - separating both will be easier to serve non-veg? Also the wedding hall tends to be quite "empty" cuz people come late for the muhurtham and leave early to eat.. so might as well make it a cosy ceremony with the near and dear, and have the rest for the reception after

Appreciate all ideas and plans and tips ladies! Good luck with all your planning!!

- Brin

Hi Brin,

Have you tried Ceylon Road temple? may have slots there.

Hey BTBs

I decided to do some legwork for my big day by trying MUAs for my friend's wedding event make up. Tried Looks studio - previously had Bubbly do my hair and makeup for some event last year, and she was good. She did bridal for my friend too but needed someone else to tie the saree. This time round tried Amutha (Dinner reception) and Nita (Temple) for hair and makeup. In both cases they were not BAD but I felt like their idea of makeup is about "glitter, contrast, lots of layers" and not enough blending. I ended up adjusting their make up on my own. They are also quite insistent on using certain colours even when I have an idea that it wont work for me. They do decent hair -do though.

In both cases I tied my own saree - Looks doesnt really provide saree tying and I think personally I do a better job. I remember for my brother's wedding the lady who came just to tie saree didnt know which end of a kanjeevaram saree was the starting point (!). Ended up doing it myself also. Makes me wonder if I should just provide saree tying services to other BTBs and indian ladies for functions. Probably charge a whole lot less too!!

Hi, hope someone may advice me regarding 'lucky' or 'auspicious' numbers in local Indian culture.:)
Eg. For Chinese its 6 or 8...

I googled and the answer I found is supposedly 1,5,7..? Does this mean numbers like 21, 35, 37 are 'gd' numbers?

Thank you in advance...:)

Hey Ladies,

Just went to take a look at some invitation cards last night from dhivyam cards.. not bad i must say! And prices seem ok too - especially since i have seen the cards. Planning to get two different invites.. one for posting and scroll type to give to guests whom I am inviting personally (will be too much to post out scroll cards i guess...)

Brides looking for nice invites.. you may want to consider. Quite a nice bit of variety there.

Hi Kendrick... this is from my own knowledge. The number '1' is quite auspicious - 11, 21, 101, etc, etc. But more importantly, for Indians, auspicious numbers vary for each person. Normally the date and time of birth is taken down to see which 'rasi' (star) you are and auspicious numbers are advised accordingly. Such info is normally gotten from temple priests.

Seems like half the Indian community is either engaging Studio A or Amore Productions. Lol. U have any others in mind?
Thanks for your reply! :) my fiancé and I actually love William Goh's work (Amore) but they aren't available on our wedding day. Was looking for something similar.

Is a Studio A good?

Oohhh. They seem good on candid n fun poses. It will be ideal if u have big group bridesmaids n groomsmen or even a big family. I'm not so sure abt their prices tho. But if I'm not wrong they started out last year so might still be affordable.

Looking for casual pre-wedding photoshoots and invitations. I work on shift and I spent most of my off days solely researching but unsure of which to settle for.
