Hi, I'm planning to have a kid but am not sure what job suits my new role as a mummy in future. Any suggestions please? Am thinking of making adjustments so I can personally watch my kid grow up :) Thanks in advance for your advice!

Am glad to see that you're already thinking of how you can be a big part in your child's life even before you've conceived him/her... Good parenting often begins with well-planned out initiatives which may sometimes include a change in career...

Well, first of all, what is your current job and what is the background of your education or training like? Do you enjoy your current job and if yes, is there a way to negotiate to work more flexible hours or as a part-timer so you can continue doing what you like without compromising on being there for your children? If not, what other jobs can you see yourself doing and more importantly, getting employed in the first place based on your previous education and training (hence my first question)? If the income from your job is vital to the family (especially when you have a new "member" i.e. your child), how much lesser income are you willing to compromise on in exchange for better hours? Have you chatted with other family and friends including your husband as well as friends who have taken a similar route before to get their input? I'm throwing out all these questions not for you to answer me but as a starting point for you to question yourself that you may get a better idea of what job will best suit you when you've considered the various factors.

Your "ideal" new job will feature these aspects (in no particular order of importance):
1) Flexible or short working hours
2) Something you enjoy doing
3) Something suited to your past educational and training background
4) An understanding employer who can grant you the leave you need to take in case of an emergency or if your child falls sick
5) Relatively good income
6) Your husband, family and friends are supportive of this job

All the best in searching through your heart and mind for the answers... Anyone may suggest a particular job but at the end of the day, it is up to you to make the final decision... ;)
