Designer Feature: Marchesa Bridal Spring 2016

Marchesa Bridal Spring 2016 regales us with feminine and romantic silhouettes that glow with silvery embroidery, gilded florals, and luscious textures. In soft shades of ivory and cream, the gowns each bear the design house’s signature intricate detailing and dramatic flair.

The regal halls and magnificent architecture of the St. Regis New York was the perfect setting for the Marchesa Bridal Spring 2016 Collection. Instead of a runway show, statuesque models showcased the gowns on pedestals, against the magnificent gold-leafed hall. Framed by gold cornices and illuminated by a golden glow from the crystal chandeliers, the gowns’ elegant silhouettes and exquisite details were presented like works of art—as indeed they are. As we moved through the halls and looked at each gown up close, the fine quality in each gown was even more apparent. Every graceful 3D fabric petal and intricately embroidered silver accent affirmed the design house’s delicately feminine aesthetic.

The collection is signature Marchesa, and features feminine silhouettes in gorgeous fabrics. Elegantly draped sheer tulle, organza, and exquisite lace cascade in dreamy, floaty layers. Silk faile is sculpted into dramatically feminine shapes, and corded lace add texture to figure-skimming gowns. The gowns are luxuriously detailed with silvery threadwork in trickling vines and blooming roses, architectural seam lines, and tulle floral textures. Romantic floral embroidery abound, and details like illusion backs dotted with sparkling jewel dewdrops, and beaded cap sleeves make the gowns even more special for that most memorable of occasions.

With Grecian gowns, ball gowns, and sheaths in the collection, there is a silhouette for every bride. Necklines also vary, with bateau cuts, romantic off-the-shoulder sleeves, and the ever popular strapless sweetheart. There is an ivory strapless re-embroidered lace sheath dress with hand-draped tulle overlay accented with a 3D floral bouquet and silk satin belt. For the sensual bride, one gown juxtaposes a sexy plunging neckline with soft, romantic tulle off-shoulder sleeves. Referencing the feminine corsetry of yesteryear, one gown features an off-the-shoulder neckline and a poufy ballgown skirt, modernised with pockets. My personal favourite was a classic sheath gown with a beautifully embellished bodice and sleeves of crystals and pearls.
